So despite sending screeners for everything else they have, Netflix hasn't sent SAG any physical OR digital screeners for Hillbilly Elegy. Low-key feels like they're throwing in the towel for a potential Close win. Seems odd, not like they have another condenser to push in that category. Scratch that, they also have Seyfried but still, why not push Close at this point?

I forgot she's never won there. And Corrin seems the most likely to win for The Crown... This is the craziest category ever.

It's available on Netflix Part of it is the effort made to court voters into caring about your film. If the studio can't be arsed to submit screeners and promote their project, why should voters care?

What Stephen said really, and also let's be honest, voters are lazy as fuck. If they're too lazy to open up Netflix then they're probably too lazy to watch any movie at all. Voters don't watch every movie that is nominated, that is commonly known. So they're going to prioritise films that actually have screeners, it shows them that the studio is actually making some conscious effort to campaign, and it makes it an easier decision on what to prioritise. At the end of the day, Netflix has sent SAG screeners for every film they have in contention except for HE. If Netflix don't even think it's worth it for Close anymore, why would voters??

At the end of the day, Netflix has sent SAG screeners for every film they have in contention except for HE. If Netflix don't even think it's worth it for Close anymore, why would voters?? This is really the problem with Netflix. They have no real follow-through. Their shotgun approach of throwing everything at the wall and hoping they stick is great if they want to maximize their nomination count, but they just haven't really had much luck closing the deal. Dern and Cuaron have been the exceptions, but those two had critical sweeps to back them up (and in Dern's case, a strong veteran narrative). If Netflix wants a Close win, they have to really go hard for it, and they seem to just not be bothering to do so, leaving it to Close's never-won status to do the heavy lifting. But we saw how that failed when there was actually a studio actively promoting and pushing her two years ago.

Glenn is third at best. Youn and Bakalova are ahead, whoever of them wins SAG probably wins Oscar too.

Reading that article, I really am getting annoyed with this narrative that Olivia Colman winning in 2018 was a shock or an upset. Yes, she lost SAG but won BAFTA. She took the Comedy Globe and was the critical favo(u)rite. The writing was on the wall the whole season but people got swept up in the overdue narrative thinking Close couldn't be stopped, but those people were blinded by the fact that any time Close gained an advantage, Colman gained it back in spades (i.e. her film getting ten nominations versus The Wife only getting one). SAG blew their wad too early, and I think they know it. They might give it to her, but I think it's likelier they give it to Youn (in a film they adored), Bakalova (a lot of actors have stated their admiration for what she did, and she obviously has the biggest headlines around her due to it), or even Colman (as a makeup win in a year where she's got three nominations). If Close is going to win the Oscar, I think she's going to do it without getting any precursor wins, just because I can't imagine SAG would repeat just two years after the fact if they don't think it's going to be her time. EDIT: Oh hi, 15,000th post.

Alexander Skarsgård won over De Niro a couple of years ago. De Niro has never won a SAG. I don’t think they care about veterans as much as everyone thinks they do. They jump on the bandwagon like every other awards body.
