I'm sticking with My Cousin Vinny Part Deux. What does that mean?? Marisa Tomei winning for her comedic performance in My Cousin Vinny. If Maria Bakalova gets a nod which I believe she will, I think she has a chance of pulling a Marisa. A lot of people saw her movie and it is a breakthrough performance.

Those are very different roles and movies, though, so the comparison makes no sense.

Do you guys think Glenn Close will receive a BAFTA nomination? I’m having a hard time seeing her score there...

Do you guys think Glenn Close will receive a BAFTA nomination? I’m having a hard time seeing her score there... Probably not. They didn’t nominate her for Albert Nobbs and that was way more BAFTA friendly.

A lot of people saw her movie and it is a breakthrough performance. That year Marisa Tomei was the only American among the nominees. The precursors - critics, Golden Globe, BAFTA were split between 3 different actresses.

I guess we'll see!

I thought Burstyn had a chance, but clearly no more.
I'm very split on Glenn, in that I badly want her to win, but I don't want her to win for this movie.

Honestly I think every nomination announcement and subsequent win moving forward will just continue to muddle up the race more.

Do you guys think Glenn Close will receive a BAFTA nomination? I’m having a hard time seeing her score there... With six slots available, it seems likely. Unless Burstyn, Seyfried, Youn and Zengel all make it, she should be in. Unusual choices are getting rarer and rarer at the BAFTAs.

Yeah, I'm thinking Burstyn might actually pop up at BAFTA (although she has a terrible track record with them; just a single nomination in 1974) just by virtue of the Kirby factor. Because I still have a tough time featuring BAFTA actually going for Hillbilly Elegy.

Bakalova will win. Doubt at your own risk. Forget that she's FANTASTIC in the film (honestly, maybe one of the Top 10 greatest female comedic performances I've ever seen), or that she's won the most precursors, or that literally ALL of her competition has a bigger strike than being in an "improvised crude comedy", she is BY FAR the one win in any category this year that they know would most PISS OFF TRUMP, and after all the time he's lived in these bleeding heart Hollywood lefties head the last 4 years (often with good reason), they won't pass the chance for one last middle finger at the #OrangeTwat. Also, it would definitely get the most attention of any other winner in the category.
So yeah, it's hers to lose.

This is such a crazy category. Like I could see 5 different people winning it.

Glenn has had this category locked for years now. Why is this thread at 5 pages?

Glenn has had this category locked for years now. Why is this thread at 5 pages? Because some people don't have a case of severe delusion?

She was all but locked 2 fucking minutes before her category was announced, and she still managed to lose. It's never a sure thing when it comes to Glenn.

I’m thinking this will be a year like 2007 for this category where the precursors go in all different directions and Oscar night is a true nail biter.

Blows my mind Ellen Burstyn's terrific performance may not even be nominated, while Maria Bakalova seems to be the frontrunner....
