I don't know if it's just my youtube feed, but damn it's intensified between those two these days. like Giamatti isn't declining any invitation to any podcast lol.

Giamatti’s campaigning HARD. Randolph's definitely working overtime for him as well as his hype-woman in her speeches. And SAG loves Giamatti; he can't be counted out. That said, Murphy's been ramping it up lately and people love his relatability.

I love that when these dudes promote their asses off, it's great and we wish them the best, but when it's BCoop, he's the enemy of the free world

There's campaigning, and then there's desperation. Cooper wants it (which is not a bad thing in and of itself because who wouldn't want an Oscar?), but the shamelessness of the last few years has come off so disingenuous. I know you disagree as one of six people in the world who liked Maestro, but the thing about his performance to me is that it didn't tell me anything about Bernstein but it told me a lot about Bradley Cooper.

Stars like Giamatti and Murphy work their asses off all their lives, barely recognized at the highest level. They don't get their projects auto-approved by the likes of Spielberg and Scorcese. Even with repeat casting with someone like Nolan, Murphy FINALLY won a chance to be the showcase the SIXTH time. Giammatii wasn't even nominated the last time he had the lead role (or any role, I think) with his big-time director.
They both EARNED it.

AMPAS liked Maestro, so did BAFTA. Giamatti and Murphy would not be able to write/produce/direct/ star in their own big, budgeted films to begin with. They don't have the kind power, clout that Cooper has. Good luck if you think winning a statue is going to change that. Diablo Cody said it best. She would gladly give back her Oscar - to have the power that Greta Gerwig has in the industry.

I just feel this is such a standard thing for actors to say (and not just actors - remember Inarritu swinging a pendulum and saying that the spirit of Bergman was with him when he was promoting Bardo?) that I don't really pay any attention to it. Oh, all right, another biopic actor felt the presence of their real-life prototype with them, big deal. What's the next bombshell gonna be, that The Zone of Interest is about the banality of evil?

All me and Stephen are saying is that there's a big difference between doing a lot of interviews and podcasts like Cillian and Paul, and waffling on about the spirit of Bernstein telling Bradley to cast Carey, and praying that he came inside him every day and blah blah blah. We know you're stanning him, but surely you can see that.

But that's just one form of thirst which is a normal feature of the awards season. To me there's a difference between saying typical 'vote for me' shit like that and Margaret Avery FYC'ing herself by going all "My Pafology" or stuff like "Honor the Man. Honor the Film."

Randolph is winning, there's no doubt. Stone has the momentum on her side. Giamatti is either number one or two in his category. When was the last time The Academy rewarded three performances from Comedy films?

I’m thinking the Academy’s more broad membership (younger and more international than years prior) will tip the scales in favor of Cillian Murphy.

I've started to feel more confident in the last week or so that Cillian wins SAG, and it was never that much of a race to begin with.

All of them were comedic, but maybe not intentionally so. One can try to argue that this was meant to be taken seriously, I just can't quite believe them.
