You know how I picked Michelle Williams as actress born in the 90s and I said it wasn't even close.........well, Winslet here and it is by much further over this mostly weak class too......

Rachel Weisz for me, with Marion Cotillard being a close second. Shu Qi is another actress worth mentioning, as I've loved her in everything I've seen her in.

I pick Weisz but Winslet will also be a fair winner of the poll.

This was tough.
I had to throw a vote to Samantha Morton even though she hasn't really done much of note in film for a long time. Then, I voted for Amy Adams and Toni Collette. I use to be a big fan of Winslet's, but from The Reader on, I haven't been as wowed by her as before. In some things, but I feel like she's not at her peak anymore. Although to be fair to her, she had an incredible run that would be impossible to keep going forever.

Voted Adams and Cotillard. Weisz and Winslet were tough cuts.

Oh honey, La Cotillard is sublime. La Mome; Rust & Bone; The Immigrant; A Very Long Engagement, etc ... I think in a non Weinstein world she'd probably had a second Oscar by now.

I won't vote for her as THE best because she lacks things that I favor when judging THE best but every once in a while Maggie Gyllenhaal give a performance that obliterates most of her competition, she did that again last year with The Kindergarten Teacher. I'm a fan but I wish she was more hungry for roles.
Best of this list ? Winslet ? Marion ? I don't know. Je ne sais pas.

BUMP! I'm curious if Winslet, Chastain etc could make a jump here with their recent perfs. Also thought Colman would have more than 3 votes. Here's a very loose ranking for me, some unlisted (my favs, Juliette and Camille) :
Kate Winslet Juliette Lewis Charlize Theron Camille Cottin Winona Ryder Jessica Chastain
Octavia Spencer Olivia Colman Rachel McAdams Penelope Cruz Nina Hoss Bae Doona Rachel Weisz Thandiwe Newton Essie Davis

Not to age shame anyone but I still can't believe Olivia is in this age group. She looks so much older.

MORTON ADAMS WITHERSPOON
I don't get why Weisz is so far ahead of Witherspoon. I get that Reese is liked but rarely anyone's love affair like Adams, Cotillard, or Winslet but I think her resume is mostly stronger than Weisz's. She had 13 years of mediocrity in between The Constant Gardener and The Favorite where Reese has dominated on film and TV in the 2010s.
Chastain is recency bias. I like her, but Hawkins with Happy-Go-Lucky and Blue Jasmine alone > Chastain

MORTON ADAMS WITHERSPOON I don't get why Weisz is so far ahead of Witherspoon. Love Weisz personally but I agree Reese is super underrated around these parts. She had so many gems in the 90s, she was iconic in Legally Blonde, and she's been strong this past decade with a career-best in Wild. She's amazing

And I have no problem whatsoever with her win for Walk The Line. Have you seen The Man In Moon ? One of the most impressive acting debuts by a young actress.

I like her, but Hawkins with Happy-Go-Lucky and Blue Jasmine alone > Chastain I think both Witherspoon and Weisz are overated. Don't get me wrong, I don't think there are bad actresses. But usually Weisz is miscast and gives just an average performance (and I'm Kind), than other actress could do much better. I have to recognized that she was sublime in the Favourite. And after that film I respect her as an interesting actress.- Witherspoon is usually irritating. And she gave terrible performance when she is out of her water (Water of Elephants, Vanity Fair), or even in her romantic commedies (I try to not remember it), when the script is bad she is terrible!!! I have nothing against her oscar win, because that year was specially weak. I think was deserved, even when she was more supporting than leading.- I have only the first minutes of her other oscar nominated performance, I get bored and turned off the TV. But I guess she was great according to the reviews. I think she was funny in Legally Blond and in Election, despite the fact I hate her character in this movie, and her mannnerism.- Her film debut was excellent, one of her best performance, when she was young she do lot of risky but commercial movies, I have to recongnized she had the guts to do it. But still, she isn't perfect, she usually exasperated me and I consider overated not only but also her out screen persona is even more irritating than when she acts.-

Tommen_Saperstein - I think Weisz is a decent celebrity. I just can't forget the 13 years of stuff she's done between The Constant Gardener and The Favorite, which are mostly unremarkable. Yeh I enjoyed her in a few movies. The Wong, the Definitely, Maybe, the Wicked Witch and the heartbroken mother Salmon ...... but she didn't make a huge impression in most her stuff in a 13 year span. HELENA MARIA - I think that might've been the first Witherspoon I saw. When I was 13 or 14 back in 2000 or 2001, I was in my look up celebrity naked pics phase and when I found Reese's booty jumping into the lake..... that movie shot up my see list. hugobolso - You have quite a lot to say about everything.
