Ooof ... not nearly as strong as the ladies group, but I guess most of them have at least one decent piece of work to their name. Keoghan and Poulter have probably impressed me the most here so far.

Oof is right. I didn't think there was too much of a gap between the ladies and guys of the '80s as many did, but this is just bad. Maybe because even though some of these guys have impressed me, it's not consistently. I went with Lucas Hedges just because of Boy Erased and Ladybird. Then I threw Ezra Miller a vote because I didn't know who else to go for; although I don't think I've been impressed by him for quite awhile now.

Chalamet way out in front, followed by Miller.

Tye Sheridan and Barry Keoghan come to mind.
Sheridan is such a fascinating actor to me, as we're seeing a kid who seems to borrow from his adult co-stars and use them to fuel his style. You can see elements of Pitt, McConaughey, Cage and the like in his approach, and I think as he gets older, he'll be able to meld that into a unique style. But he's got a great down-to-earth sensibility that scarcely hinders him, and he's got a very strong screen presence.
Keoghan, despite looking like he could be Sheridan's brother, has a lot of similar approaches but has also wielded more tools that, I think, make him a more versatile presence. His accent work is impeccable and unlike Sheridan, he has a singular oddball quality that I think will make him more of a favorite for auteurs (and has already). Sheridan, I think, will be the bigger movie star, but I think Keoghan will win an Oscar first.
But Will Poulter is right up there with them.

Keoghan and Poulter at least for now I've seen more thought coming from them.........as usual all the heat coming from the UK........all the sad emo dudes and (mostly) accurate casting and hype coming from the US as far as I can see.......

This list is pretty dire, even more than the 80's one.
Voted for Lerman and am surprised I was the first vote. Very good on Jack and Bobby and in Fury which is more than I can say for most of these other guys in anything. He's usually at least good even if the movie isn't. Too bad he hasn't really been getting the parts lately and couldn't move past the boy next door thing.
Gave Hedges my second vote somewhat on projection. He at least seems somewhat promising if he could find the right parts. He was the best thing about Lady Bird, which I didn't like as much as a lot of people. Could have gone with Patel for the second vote too since he is usually at least decent.

Jack O'Connell is more accomplished than everyone on this poll. A terrible omission.

I went with Will Poulter since he has given my favourite performance out of everyone listed (Detroit). None of them have really impressed me to be honest.

Not a very strong list...
I choose Chalamet because of the movies he's made so far (Call me by your Name, Lady Bird) and his upcoming projects (French Dispatch, Little Women).

once again a vastly inferior group to the ladies. Chalamet is the obvious standout. But after him? I don't know, I went with Keoghan just for his brilliant turn in Sacred Deer (which is better than what anyone else has done in this list other than Chalamet) but who's to know how long it'll take for him to land a project that'll rival that one, if ever. Poulter showed a lot of potential in Detroit but hasn't really done anything else noteworthy, and I feel like Ezra Miller hasn't acted since 2013. Hedges is alright. He's good in Manchester and Lady Bird but nothing else stands out, for the right reasons anyways.
I also really liked Sheridan in Joe but I don't think I've seen him in anything else, and that movie was made five years ago. Where has he been?

It's a much more promising list than it was just a few short years ago (as opposed to the ladies, who have had a great list for quite a while) but for me Poulter is the one. Kid has been going STRONG for like 12 years now. Might be one of the most criminally underrated performers around at the moment.

I think it's a bit unfair to say it's a weak list, when most of those names have one or two relevant credits. It feels like we're judging who's more promising, as opposed to the 90s actresses who already feel like established, blossomed talent.
I'll go with Chalamet as my #1 because of what he did in Call Me By Your Name, a sensible, quiet, intuitive piece of acting that requires so much intelligence. And Hedges, because he's got a quiet likeability that reminds me of Matt Damon.
Also love Jack O'Connell, Will Poulter, Barry Keoghan and Bill Skarsgaard.

Keoghan for sure. He's fast becoming one of my top young actors.
I really like Poulter, Hedges, Sheridan and Miller quite and lot, and they all could have had my second vote. I gave it to Poulter, as he has given my favourite performance from the four of them in Detroit.
From the remainder, the only one I have seen anything I loved from, is Alex Wolff in Hereditary. Still, at the same time, I don't dislike anyone on the list. Although, if this Dylan O'Brien fella came up to me and introduced himself, I don't even think I'd know him. He seems a strange inclusion, when a few top options have been omitted.
I actually disagree with those saying this isn't a strong list. I personally think it's a quality list, with bags of potential for greatness.
