I'm currently watching one match on TV, one on the phone, and three on the laptop Fun times. Sveta just beat down Aga, and then when she was serving for the match I think she basically gave up three match points, before saving them all Beautiful performance. My heart breaks for Pretty Pretty Petra Martic, but she was up a break in the first, and she threw it away, up a break early in the second, and almost threw that away, and almost got back the break in the third but couldn't pull that off either That thing between Ostapenko and the ballgirl definitely looked bad, though I don't really know what the ballgirl was doing considering even the linespeople had to start gesturing to her. Other than that I think Penko did sooooooo well to come through there given how balls up that second set almost went. Garby and Angie was pretty easily the best womens match I've seen all year. Amazing stuff. Dipped a little bit towards the end of the third when Kerber just seemed to get her spirit broken, and the empress of the universe just showed the championship DNA running through her. It's been tooooooooooooo long since we've seen that. She's got to be the one to beat now. Caro putting up a good fight against Jo. Shame she blew the tiebreaker after fighting back into the set.

Such a nail biter between Garbi and Angie!! Marathon match, love it. I'm glad Muguruza cleaned up some of the unforced errors she was letting fly in the first two sets and gained her confidence. Kerber held well until the very end where she kind of let it go, but good on her for starting to turn her year around and proving that her run to the 4th round wasn't just a fluke. She's not quite *~*back*~* yet, but she's on her way. One to watch in the US Open. It's up to Halep to stop Trashkova from being #1 now. Garbine the one to beat though? Uh uh. Oyster-pancake will frustrate the hell out of her. And the way Queen Vee is serving on centre court should be intimidating everyone right now (her second serves in that match against Konjuh were faster than faster than the majority of first serves from everyone else today). She didn't play any warm up tournaments and is just now coming into peak form at the right time. I think whoever wins between her and Penko will be the winner. Konta needs to stop losing her cool and being such a child to the umpire and linesmen. She's winning this match but her mental game is all over the place by the looks. Garcia is catching her quietly.

Man, Ostapenko and Venus is going to be such a funny match Like Scrappy Doo vs. Lurch from The Addams Family. Shame Jelena hasn't played a single match on either of the main show courts. You wouldn't think she'd be overawed by the occasion given what we've seen from here the past couple of months, but it's going to be touuuuuugh.

You wouldn't think she'd be overawed by the occasion given what we've seen from here the past couple of months, but it's going to be touuuuuugh. It really is going to be a weird match. Aside from the age difference (this is the 3rd player in a row Venus has played against who wasn't even born when she played her first Wimby), their styles are sooo different. Venus's long, beautiful groundstrokes and powerful clean serve vs Aljona's hyper aggressive hitting and unpredictable placement. I don't see Jel-O getting nervous at all and all the ball bashing will probably tire Grandma out. However Queenus is going to attack that abysmal second serve that Svito failed to capitalise on today, and this is even better form for Vee than she was in when she made the finals at the Aussie Open. I am rooting for lil cutie Garcia to clean her up (that weird horizontal serve seemed to really do its job for her!) but i'm getting a knot in my stomach here!!! On the other court Azarenka is playing even better than before she gave birth. Halep better werk.

Boooo poor Caro. So nice of her to wait for her opponent before leaving the court. <3 I really wanted her to go even further here if only to make Mladenovic seethe at home.

Fucking Halep is going to push her way through this, god damn it. I suppose she's a marginally less embarrassing number 1 than Pliskova, but poor Vika. Still, it's a great start on her comeback, and she'll like her chances in New York with no Serena around to pip her at the post.

Disappointed in Halep's pushing (so many of the young players are pulling a Wozniacki and playing like this) but Vika is undoing herself with all the unforced errors.
Coco Puff is through as well... by a nose. She was hitting a lot of UEs today also. Even if she outhits lovely Magda in the quarters I think Sveta (who is a dark horse to win this thing IMO) or Muguruza will outsmart her.
Also congrats to the Queen for - getting into her record 100th Wimbledon singles match. - Being the only female player to make the 2nd week at the last six Grand Slams.

Uh oh....can Nadal salvage an epic comeback here?

So with the ladies quarters ready to go I'm hoping for a Williams v Rybarikova final, but I'd honestly swap that right now to see Nadal get knocked out. Two sets down and I'm allowing myself to get a little hopeful.

Almost all of what I wanted to happen happened with the ladies. Konta gets to pick the world #1 tomorrow which will be fun.
I'm really really really really really hoping Muller doesn't collapse and end up letting Rafa win in 5. Please Gilles. I need you. Uncle Sam has a chance to beat the world #1 two Wimbledons in a row which would be fun, though I'd be perfectly happy with Sir Andy winning too. The Cilic dream is still alive though so I'm just gonna hold on to that no matter what.

Two sets down and I'm allowing myself to get a little hopeful. Seriously the dream match here. Two grass gazelles doing what they do best, would be one of the more 'artistic' games of tennis in a while. I wouldn't mind Kuznetsova either, at least in the finals. I like a veteran in good form and the 4 previous times she's reached the quarters she's had a really tough opponent... Henin in 2003, Lindsay Davenport in 2005, and outright winner Venus in 2007. Using all the witchcraft I know to put a hex on Nadal here. The Thiem v Berdych match is also exhausting.

Have to feel for Djokovic and Mannarino now. They're due out after the Nadal match, and if they don't start soon, they most likely won't get finished today. If the organizers have a lick of sense they'll move the match to Centre Court where it can be guaranteed to finish today, Federer is almost done putting Dimitrov out of his misery at this point.

HANG IN THERE MULLER YOU CAN DO IT. JUST ONE MORE. He's reading Nadal's return position better in his service games. I wonder if they're not moving the Djoko/Manarino match to CC because of all the complaints about the damage? In one of the previous matches they were saying it was hard to see the baseline from the player's perspective. Not that this court looks to be in perfect condition anyway. Some more Venus trivia just in case I haven't annoyed you all enough already: - With her 4th round win against Konjuh she has now become the WTA American #1, for the first time in 15 years. - At 37 the oldest player to progress this far in Wimbledon since Martina Navratilova made the finales in '94 at the same age. - This Wimbledon is her 75th Major, more than anybody else (male or female) in the Open Era.
