So SW19 starts in 3 days and this has always been my favourite grand slam. There's just something special about the whole event and conjures up plenty of excitement. With many unfancied players giving the old guard a real run for their money in recent times, the eventual outcome is actually quite hard to predict. Rafa is in unstoppable mode right now and I'd be disappointed if he doesn't at least reach the final. Federer's resurgence shows no signs of slowing down and we know just how much he loves this tournament. Murray is having a very up and down season -- honestly don't know what to expect from him. Same goes for Djokovic, although I feel he'll iron out the kinks in time to make a deep run here. As for the women.....I don't care about any of them except GRANNY V!!! wendy How do you guys see this going?

Murray has been pulling out of warm up events this week citing a sore hip, which doesn't sound a big deal because guys say this kind of thing all the time when they want time off, but then there was this video clip of him limping around the practice court. I don't know if it's as serious as it looks, but with no match time on grass and a freakin' limp less than a week from opening day... I'm not sure Murray is going to put up much of a title defence.
You never know with Novak, he COULD flip the switch at any point and find his best again, but people have been expecting that for a while, and it has yet to materialize, so there's no legit reason to expect it here either. The fact there are fewer guys comfortable on grass than clay and hard should help his case to some degree... Shall definitely be one of the ones to watch.
Rafa on grass? I'll remain sceptical until he gives me reason to feel otherwise.

Seriously though, I'm hoping Queen V can pull out the win here.
Men's side of things, I'd love Tsonga to take it home but as long as Federer or Nadal don't, I'll be happy.

I'm just so bored of Federer and Nadal, and even though we got a break from them winning (almost) all the slams, normal service seems to be resuming this year. A small part of me does want to see Federer make maybe one last piece of history before finishing up and be the all time Wimbledon great, but I do like to see new names on the slam roles of honour.

Same. Nishikori's already the only person left that I'm really all that invested in, and that's been a traditionally miserable experience, so if Federer has to win another I'm fine with it. But I'm so over Federer and especially Nadal. They're great, I know, but I'm ready for something new.

So to the people who are sick of Federer winning, I'm curious as to whether you grew up watching him play? I'm 26 now and watching his rise to the top, his dominance of the sport, his perceived decline, and now his "resurgence" has been probably the most emotional investment I've ever had with an athlete or a sport in general. I'm wondering if people who are just used to seeing him at the top are sick of him or if they too have seen his whole career and are just tired of it.

I watched him beat Sampras in the 4th Round at Wimbledon in 2001, and knew then that this guy was the next big thing. I became a Tennis fan in and around 1995 when I was 13. I've seen a lot of pre Federer and I've watched his rise, dominance, rivalry with Nadal and as you say perceived decline, and I am a fan, but I did grow tired of him, I got bored. Federer and Nadal did more for me becoming more of a fan of women's tennis than anything else did.

Thank you for the tag honey! <3 I came into this tournament with high hopes for Veesus Christ, but that was before the car crash incident and the RIDICULOUS sledging of her for having a pink bra (which only came out in the stress of the match in the 2nd set) underneath her WHITE CLOTHES.... are you fuckers serious? I am hoping the first post match interview she did where she addressed the crash and broke down crying will take the pressure off a bit. It's out in the open now, and that may provide a sort of relief. Grass is totally her terrain, and a lot of the strongest grass players are either not in the draw or not playing their best... if her mental game is on point enough to focus on her play I can still see her reaching at least the semis. I think it's looking good for Pliskova and Murray, if i'm going with 'conservative' picks. They seem to have enough in their corner, and a bit less in their way (Andy's injury seems minor)... though i'd much prefer to see it go to others... Was sad to see Wawrinka leave as early as he did. Always rooting for Tsonga, Mr. Nishikori, and my Gael Monfils. I'm watching the Kerber / Falconi game right now and I can't believe this hopelessly inconsistent player is still #1 in the world. Most of her points have been flukes, and she's playing the world #64.

I don't even watch that much tennis anymore so I mostly am just attached to Federer for sentimental reasons I suppose.

That whole press conference was a disaster, and they played it like 30 times throughout the day on ESPN while other people were playing actual tennis matches at the tennis competition where I wanted to watch people play tennis.

It's all i've seen on the Aus. Sports Centre thing as well. They are always so shit to her. On the bright side, because of the car accident drama this is a rare press conference where she didn't get 3000 questions about why she's even still playing and when she's going to retire... never mind the fact that she has been a Grand Slam runner up this year. Honestly fuck 'em. Wang is a tough opponent and is playing stronger and stronger. Veesus beat her on clay at RG though, so I have faith she can do it again and hop through to the 3rd round. If she keeps her focus. I'm not sure if the press conference was a good release of pressure about it or is going to become a big distraction.

Djokovic and Federer both had a handy first day. I couldn't garner a whole lot about how they looked from that, I'd have liked them both tested a little.
Raonic looked solid, he'll be a match for anyone if he stays in form.

QUEEN VEE IN THE 3RD ROUND!!!! She was playing some horrible tennis in the second half of the first set (and needs to work on her serves big time at the practice court tomorrow)... but she really found her form in the clutch moments and i'm thrilled she won with all the tumult in her life at the moment.

Petra. ☹️
Anyways, it was great to see her back even competing again. She'll get stronger day by day.

Really sucks to see Kvitova out so early, but I'm still just amazed she's even playing already. That was the least stressful Murray match I've ever watched. I don't think he yelled once. It was confusing. Glad Nishikori made it through without too much trouble (for him anyway), and Cilic is looking strong which is good. So I still have something to root for. I've been really liking Khachanov lately, so hopefully some miracle finds him in the next round. Vika's honk is the lesser of two evils, so I'm glad Svitolina is out. Also glad to see Medvedev go. I'd never seen Abanda before, but she looks really promising. Weird to see Foggy win easy. Ostapenko and Giorgi should be an interesting match. Could be a whole lot of amazing winners, or a whole lot of really terrible unforced errors. Probably both.

Mattek-Sands's fall was really horrifying. I was really looking forward to her and Lucie getting the CYGS. Hope it's not a career-ending thing.

It seemed like it took ages for the medics to come into the court, despite her stricken on the floor and screaming in agony for what felt like an enternity.
Gruesome stuff, wish her a speedy recovery.

It was painful to witness... reminded me of Mary Pierce's career-ending knee injury. She was just starting to come into some good form again late in her career. I wish her a speedy recovery and hope she can return to competition eventually. Poor Safarova looked distraught as well watching her friend and doubles partner... it's no wonder she seemed so rattled and lost her own match. Not sure what the future holds for her. Pliskova is down (yay), but in a weird twist is most likely going to be world #1 despite not making it past the 2nd round at a major this year. How embarrassing for women's tennis. She looked like she had it in the bag too but Rybarikova pulled out some beautiful grass-play. They had an incredible rally here:

That rally was so entertaining, but Pliskova had like 8 chances for a winner and she was so stupidly passive at the net. It looked almost like an exhibition, like she hit so many kinda tough but still gettable balls for the sake of a flashy point when so many of them she should have been able to just put it away.

I only saw the Mattek-Sands injury after the fact, and thankfully they tastefully didn't have sound, as I hear it was not something you would want to hear. Hopefully it is something she can recover from, but damn it looked nasty.
The Pliskova / Rybarikova match was excellent and I'm so glad the underdog came through. I don't think I've ever seen Rybarikova play before, but I'm a fan now. She's great too watch and seems like a bit of a character. I'd love to see her deep into this tournament.
I'm wondering about Wozniacki now in terms of potential winners. I've seen some of her two matches and she looks to be on her game.
I'm crossing my fingers for Tsonga, Cilic and Nishikori in the men's, although Nishikori is a set down right now, so we'll see.
