pacinoyes keeps saying it's Caitlin Clark. Tho.....is this true? I think.... maybe? Tho her clout outside America can't be that high. I'd imagine worldwide it's someone from soccer or tennis. In America, Clark is........... a contender, on ESPN at least. Olivia Dunne seems popular, maybe more for looks rather than by gymnastics fans? Still popularity points regardless. Alex Morgan is surely a celebrity here, but not sure how well known and Rapinoe is around the world. I don't know if worldwide Rapinoe is derided for being the social media/activist persona she is here, or not.

I am not sure it's anyone in tennis...... Iga Swiatek - love her - could be REALLY big.....but she doesn't quite stand apart from her rivals - she also struggles with English still atm......she doesn't take her hat off Caitlan Clark's coach explained her incredible rise really well - that she came at the exact right time - first of all she's a "normal" girl - no Tattoos, no bone through her face, she smiles, she has swagger but isn't a thug......she's white (her coach didn't say that obviously)....... - just saying, that is a part of her appeal.....ESPN can't even say her nickname because it would be a slur ( Show White)......she plays with an average team more or less if SHE wasn't there in Bumblefncksville, Iowa.......she plays the game in unique way but lends itself to Youtube clips.........she intersected with social media too.......she's STRAIGHT & Christian and BOTH parents come to her games......she was born IN Iowa........it's like a fncking movie............ oh and she came along in the era of N.I.L. too - like what couldn't she endorse? .............but this version of CC kind of ends in just 1 or 2 games..... CC will always be CC AT Iowa.......after Iowa she might still be great and big........but.......not the same ....... in college........well......... 22 is the new 23

It's gotta be Serena Williams. She's been an icon for decades now.
Maria Sharapova is retired but she was up there during her playing days.
Alex Morgan is a good pull, though Alisha Lehmann is the most followed female soccer player on social media for whatever that's worth.

Venus and Serena Williams Mia Hamm Kristi Yamaguchi Simone Biles I'll update as more come to mind. Good list. But I don't think Kristi Yamaguchi has nearly the pull she used to have. But her name has 4 syllables and surely everyone has at least heard that name. On that token, maybe Michelle Kwan? Seemed like she was the only American skater for a while that was around. Mia Hamm is a good choice for 99 guys. That 99 team is the popular soccer team of all time in America for men and women. I dont remember if it was her or Brandi Chastain or someone else who headed out a game saving goal by China. But that save was what saved the US the victory so it was a legendary moment for our country. MAYBE we can argue Anna Kournikova? Kinda like Alisha Lehmann...not really an elite player, but really hot and one of these married someone famous.

I think urban meant now because Serena is an easy pick overall but I don't think Paige as being like Caitlan much - I mean Caitlan is a lot closer to someone like Tiger Woods .......like there were people who never watched Golf but did once Woods came along......I never watched a Women's College game until CC
I said this before - if you go to any East Coast bar - East Coast ffs! - showing an Iowa game you will see many people wearing Clark 22 shirts........no one ever felt like that about Paige....not saying she isn't great - she is GREAT - it's just the way that CC plays is great and unique.......... and her circumstances around Iowa and its culture......... that's the big difference between them......

In previous years it was Serena Williams & Maria Sharpova, but they are both retired now, so if we are talking active athletes, they don't count.
It's almost always going to be someone from tennis, as that is the richest and most popular global sport for female athletes. Currently, I'd say the most popular female tennis player is Coco Gauff (and possibly the most popular active female athlete in the world currently), who at only 19 years old became the highest paid female athlete in the world in 2023.
She's not even yet the best female tennis player in the world ( that's world #1 Iga Swiatek), but she's ranked #3 in the world, won her first grand slam last year at the US Open, and is far more marketable than Swiatek, which is probably why she's now the highest paid, even at this early stage of her career. As long as she keeps winning major titles, Gauff's popularity ceiling is up there with Serena and Sharapova. Naomi Osaka looked like she was going to take over in the popularity/marketability stakes fron Serena and Maria a few years ago, but she's become a headcase, became pregnant and is no longer at the top of the game. So right now, it's Gauff.
Female American College Basketball is not a global sport. Even the WNBA is not a global league in popularity the way the NBA is. Caitlin Clark is not a big deal globally, so is nowhere close to being the most popular female athlete in the world. I guess she's followed mainly in America ( and maybe Canada or whatever). She's nowhere close to the global fame and popularity of Simone Biles (the greatest gymnast of all time) is much more popular and well known on the global stage ( and was also the 9th highest paid female athlete in the world last year, which is incredibly impressive for Gymnastics).

they’re deffs not the biggest but as honourable mentions i’d also say amanda serrano and katie taylor
their fight did huge numbers for boxing (i think it was the most watched womens boxing event in history). sold out the MSG too for the first time ever in a female boxing match if i’m not mistaken (might be wrong on that one).

As big as Serrano and Taylor are for women's boxing, they are still incredibly niche compared to the global reach of women's tennis players. I also think Simone Biles being the Gymnastics GOAT, has allowed her to become globally famous outside of Olympic years. It's interesting that Athletics, while a global sport, hasn't produced a female star that has really had huge global popularity for a long time ( ie an equivalent to Usain Bolt).

Most people couldn't name one womens basketball player and now they're big Clark and womens BB fans. I think shes like Pele? Dont think anyone here gave a damn about soccer before Pele. And yes pupdurcs, we all know Clark isnt big outside of the United States and Canada.

I think it's tricky comparing team sports to individual sports too..........part of CC's appeal is how she intersects with gambling too - like you don't really bet on gymnastics but you can on Tennis.......... and Woman's Basketball now..........not sure how many people are Fanduel addicts but you can practically bet on every aspect of CC's game....... So CC is driving TV ratings, legalized betting, ticket prices, crowd sizes, commercials, economic things asociated with her - Merchandising, Food, Concessions etc .......watch this - when does Simone Biles do this? When has Simon Biles generated 100 million dollars and she doesn't even have her own sneaker yet - whiich will be a huge deal obviously GTFO.

Yes but unfortunately Clark likely will never touch Biles in terms of global recognition and net worth because Olympics are just way more watched than women's basketball. But those items you name are accurate. Caitlin is the best at her sport but her sport has inherent limitations no matter how good you are or how revolutionary you are to the game and the popularity around the game. I'm not much of a Simone Biles guy tho. but girls from everywhere in Slovakia and EASTERN Russian isle participates in gymnastics. And then further on the Olympics.

If this is limited to active athletes I'd say she's behind at least Simone Biles and Alex Morgan. Maybe Olivia Dunne too for completely different reasons. Swiatek and Naomi Osaka are probably bigger worldwide although maybe not just in the US.
All time she's not even remotely close as of yet.

The nice thing about ending up on pup’s block list is being able to scheme against him out in the open now. How do we sabotage every thread pup starts from now on and make it about Caitlin Clark? It’s what he deserves for being an absolute ignoramus and suggesting there are no soccer players amongst the most popular female athletes on the planet

I think in tennis right now theres a clear top 5 in terms of name recognition, popularity, and just overall pedigree elevating their names and statures. This is why I think Swiatek, Sabalenka, Gauff, Raducanu, and Osaka are in front.
Swiatek seems to be the standard in the sport right now. Raducanu seemed like a great story at the time but havent been looking good lately... but giving her time to recover from injuries, hopefully she'll retake her former form.
Osaka feels fading but not totally faded enough. Gauff has a lot more to prove to me. Not sure why shes the most popular tennis player when Sabalenka beat her this January and has 1 more grand slams than her. Sabalenka seems on the path to destruction.
Gauff feels less popular than Zendaya at each's respective jobs, to me.

Well yeh but US tennis is not exactly tipping the boiling pot right now so she probably already is the face of US tennis. The successor to Williams - I'm pretty sure everyone's thinking that. I know I should root for my country, but I still like Raducanu and Sabalenka more... We'll wait for the official figures to come out on 2024 but my guess is that was Caitlin's most economically profitable year. She might surpass Biles in the year 2024, probably actually likely will because Biles hasnt done anything in 2024 yet while Caitlin is building up her empire within a very short span of 3 and a half months. But it's my impression that Biles has had more wealth built up thru time but you never know with economics these days.... are crazy. So I kinda get why Caitlin wants to go pro. Doesnt seem like theres any gain in the sport anymore when you're already making money on your name alone regardless where you play. Sharing lockers with people who arent making any money, it might be time to just mentally come to the conclusion that who are you right now is Warren Buffet and Buffet doesnt stay at an AirBnB over the Chelsea. Nobody stays at high school an extra year for love of the school.

Depends how big Radacanu is in China, I know she's making big money, but I'd guess Osaka is still numero uno for general popularity if you combine east and west.

He's not wrong people .........and ..........CC has already blown past Biles in money and name / face recognitionn in the US certainly - and if she hasn't she is going to blow past her as she plays games in a couple months...........and again Biles isn't really an athlete imo......... Gauff is a better African American example of a current popular female athlete than Biles is .........

Jason Whitlock is a blowhard who just says things to draw attention to himself and stoke up controversy. He's full of shit regarding Simone Biles. Biles is a Global Star. She's famous everywhere. She's won the biggest global sports award for female athletes three times (Laureus Sportswoman Of The Year). The same award that often goes to tennis players like Novak Djokovic on the male side. Only Serena Williams has won the Laureus Sportswoman more times than Biles, with 4 wins. I doubt Caitlin Clark will even get near that award once in her career. The 10 most searched for female athletes in the world according to Google for 2023: 1 Iga Swiatek 2 Coco Gauff 3 Emma Radacanu 4 Alexia Putellas 5 Alex Morgan 6 Sam Kerr 7 Simone Biles 8 Megan Rapino 9 Naomi Osaka 10 Jessica Pegula
www.olbg.com/blogs/most-loved-sports-stars
Biles was the 7th most searched for female athletes on the planet, the only gymnast in the top 10 in a sea of tennis players and soccer stars. And it wasn't even an Olympic Year, when Biles usually generates the most interest and can easily get to #1, as she likely will after this year's Olympics. Caitlin Clark is not even in the top 20 most searched for female athletes in the world, despite the huge attention she recieved in American sports coverage in 2023 . The most popular female basketball player globally is WNBA legend Candace Parker, who is 12th on the list. The likes of Caitlin Clark and her rival Angel Reese are strictly local phenoms. If you are in America, you might think the whole world cares about them, but it's very much the opposite. Maybe it changes when they get into the WNBA and sponsors begin to push them , but for now, comparing their global fame/popularity and reach to someone like Biles is ridiculous and ignorant. To finish it off, in 2016, Simone Biles was the 5th most searched for person in the world. Not female athlete. Person. Behind only Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton, Michael Phelps and Melania Trump.Biles has been one of the most famous people in the world for nearly a decade.
