He died today. P***n's mission is accomplished, pretty much exactly one month before the Russian elections. I remember how shocked I was as a teen when Politkovskaya's "mysterious" death was front-page news all over the world. It's tragic that after Litvinenko and Markelov and Baburova and Magnitsky and Estemirova and Nemtsov and Borodin and Khangoshvili we've grown so desensitised that this is now just "business as usual".

*vomits* Yeah, I hated this too. It just feels so phony.

I like it. Get to see more of the past winners, emphasizes the historicity of the award, and allows the nominees to really have a moment beyond just a (usually lame) clip.

If the writing was better, maybe, but I found the presentation both of these years interminably awkward. Way prefer clips.

More talking in a 3-hour ceremony. That'll boost ratings for sure

WHY WON'T THEY JUST BRING BACK THE ACTING NOMINEE MONTAGES FROM 2019. Those were the ideal format and should've become the standard.

Counterpoint: Adrien Brody talking about "googling" Richard Jenkins as Jenkins glowers from the audience was the best moment of the Oscars that decade.

It makes the nomination feel more "special" in a way... I especially liked Colin Farrell saluting Jeremy Renner in 2010 (even though he's not himself a winner?) followed by the latter's hand-gesture.

The best was actually Colin Farrell reminiscing about spooning Jeremy Renner during the making of S.W.A.T. If they were all like that, I'd be onboard.

You just want to hear someone actually praise the NYAD performances for 10 minutes.

Who should present for each nominee? This was harder than I expected. I couldn't think of anyone who's worked with a past nominee (even though I'm sure there are plenty) so I just went off vibes:
Lead Actor: Nicolas Cage -- Colman Domingo Brendan Fraser -- Jeffrey Wright Matthew McConaughey -- Bradley Cooper Al Pacino -- Paul Giamatti
Colin Firth? -- Cillian Murphy
Lead Actress: Jessica Lange -- Annette Bening Michelle Yeoh -- Lily Gladstone
Olivia Colman? -- Emma Stone Kate Winslet? -- Carey Mulligan Nicole Kidman? -- Sandra Huller
Supporting Actor: Mahershala Ali -- Sterling K. Brown Ke Huy Quan -- Robert De Niro Sam Rockwell -- Ryan Gosling
George Clooney? -- Mark Ruffalo Brad Pitt? -- Robert Downey Jr.
Supporting Actress: Jamie Lee Curtis -- Jodie Foster Lupita Nyong'o -- Da'Vine Joy Randolph
Ariana DeBose? -- Danielle Brooks Laura Dern? -- America Ferrera Regina King? -- Emily Blunt

I think Pacino will present Best Picture or Best Director.

Ugh, I hated this corny format. I don't care what the past winners have to say up there. Keep it simple and give us some good clips.

Jessica Lange leads a pretty reclusive lifestyle, so I’m quite surprised to see her name among the presenters… Could it be that she’s starting her campaign for ‘Long Day’s Journey Into Night’ early?

For the life of me did this lady appear in anything good? MAR fawns over her and Chastain I really wanna have a glimpse into them just the majority of their filmography look very, um, non-fun

You definitely have to look outside of those to see her best work, in my opinion. Here's a list of some of my personal favorites: All That Jazz Men Don't Leave O Pioneers! Losing Isaiah A Streetcar Named Desire Titus Big Fish Normal Grey Gardens American Horror Story: Monster House American Horror Story: Asylum
