Best Director: Sofia Coppola, The Beguiled This seemed sort of surprising. I read that she wasn't there, and most of the "scoop" that I saw this morning didn't have her winning.

Grand Prix: 120 Beats Per Minute This feels like another upset since most of the "scoop" I read had it winning the Palme d'Or.

That Palme win was almost as unexpected as the La La Land music cue.
Looks like a strong batch of winners.

With his win today, Joaquin Phoenix is now two for three with the big festival Best Actor prizes. All he needs is Berlin and he joins Jack Lemmon and Sean Penn.

LOL Predictions vs reality What's the sense in making predictions based on others reviews and rumours?

LOL Predictions vs reality What's the sense in making predictions based on others reviews and rumours? LOL. I don't know which is why I never try to predict Cannes. It seems like everyone has "inside information", but then there's always big surprises that happen. ETA: Someone already edited Nicole Kidman's Wiki page. I'm guessing it wasn't Ms. Movie Star.

Yes! So excited to see a bunch of these, glad the ones I'm most anticipated for won something. The Beguiled, Sacred Deer and of course some push for Joaquin would be fantastic

Loving the attention for Phoenix, Kidman, Killing of a Sacred Deer, The Beguiled and You Were Never Really Here. Happy for Kruger to get back in the spotlight a bit as well.

Fatih Akin's reaction to Kruger's win, and Phoenix's reaction to his own had better become immortal GIF's asap. Between the press conference for the film, and his speech here my love for the artist formerly known as Leaf has somehow increased tenfold. What an incredible dork.

Weird that Haynes missed in the end (although perhaps the rumor of Almodóvar loving it was false), but overall it's a pretty strong set of winners, especially compared to previous years'.
