Total Film ✔ @totalfilm The spirit of Joe Eszterhas lives in Ozon's L'Amant Double. Starts with a gynaecological close up and only gets more outrageous #Cannes2017
Kyle Buchanan ✔ @kylebuchanan L'AMANT DOUBLE is Francois Ozon doing De Palma. Hilariously fun sex trash with the most ridiculous match cut of #cannes2017
Justin Chang ✔ @justincchang L'AMANT DOUBLE (Ozon): Twin-themed psychothriller trashterpiece should be titled DEAD RENIERS. A shoo-in for the Palme d'Orifice. #Cannes
Caspar Salmon @casparsalmon François Ozon's L'AMANT DOUBLE is such a romp! Think Rosemary's Twin, with cats and pegging. Peak Jeremie Renier. High trash! #Cannes2017
David Jenkins @daveyjenkins L 'Amant Double by François Ozon is mediocrity squared, big time sexy trash and shallow as a puddle. #Cannes70
Jamie Graham @jamie_graham9 Hitchcockian psychosexual thrills in Ozon's L'amant Double. Elegant, trashy, erotic, outrageous. Can see Almodóvar digging it #Cannes2017
david ehrlich ✔ @davidehrlich L'AMANT DOUBLE: I can't believe it took 25 #Cannes2017 movies before I saw one that opens with a shot from inside a vagina.
Peter Bradshaw @peterbradshaw1 The lite-erotic stylings of François Ozon's L'Amant Double are trying. But it's the best strapon scene since Myra Breckinridge #Cannes2017
AADowd ✔ @aadowd L'AMANT DOUBLE: Delirious premium trash, like De Palma or Verhoeven remaking DEAD RINGERS from the Bujold character's perspective. #Cannes17
Tim Grierson ✔ @timgrierson AMANT DOUBLE: I like my Ozon pulpy, so this delighted. Sexier than FIFTY SHADES, a dash of ROSEMARY'S BABY, elegantly ludicrous. #Cannes2017
Jason Gorber ✔ @filmfest_ca Ozon's L'AMANT DOUBLE is watered down Cronenberg, a stylish if silly take on twinning that's rarely winning #cannes2017
Gregory Ellwood @thegregorye L'Enfant Double is crazy sexy over the top thriller. Could be nice US art house hit. #Cannes70

Current Metacritic scores for some competition titles:
87 Good Time (Joshua and Ben Safdie) 86 The Killing of a Sacred Deer (Yorgos Lanthimos) 77 The Meyerowitz Stories (Noah Baumbach) 76 The Beguiled (Sofia Coppola) 73 Wonderstruck (Todd Haynes) 72 Okja (Bong Joon-ho) 69 The Day After (Hong Sang-soo) 52 Radiance (Naomi Kawase)
They're slow to update, so there are no reviews up so far for the likes of 120 Beats per Minute, Happy End, The Square, Loveless, Redoubtable and Rodin.

Robbie Collin ✔ @robbiereviews In The Fade (Akin): straightforward but madly gripping courtroom drama with rise-of-far-right topical resonance & fab Diane Kruger #Cannes70
Jason Gorber ✔ @filmfest_ca IN THE FADE - Ingredients are there for something truly stellar but unfortunately strong open and great ideas squandered by end #Cannes2017
Gregory Ellwood @thegregorye As a movie In The Fade takes a bad courtroom turn in middle third but last act is impressive Kruger #Cannes70
Gregory Ellwood @thegregorye Diane Kruger could be last minute upset Lead Actress winner for In The Fade #Cannes70
Alex Billington ✔ @firstshowing In the Fade - German woman goes for revenge after her family is killed in a bombing. Diane Kruger totally owns this role. The film is aces.
Nikola Grozdanović @nikgroz IN THE FADE: Not Akin to a comeback but a step in the right direction. Straight-laced story, Diane Kruger is good. It's OK. #Cannes2017
Sam Gray @samgraay Fatih Akin's IN THE FADE isn't terrible, but it's painfully contrived and Oscar-baity. It'll probably win the Palme d'Or #Cannes2017
FilmLand Empire @filmlandempire IN THE FADE: hilariously bad courtroom drama/revenge film. A future arthouse camp classic? #Cannes2017
Rado Folta @rdfolta Diane Kruger's fantastic performance didn't save #InTheFade from being very average tale of revenge over dead family #Cannes2017 #Cannes70
Peter Howell ✔ @peterhowellfilm IN THE FADE: Akin's thoughtful payback thriller adds quality genre to comp; will jury agree? Think: Diane Kruger, Best Actress. #Cannes2017
Total Film ✔ @totalfilm Diane Kruger fights Nazis and the courts after the murder of her family in sombre drama In The Fade. Solid, if unremarkable #Cannes2017
Jo-Ann Titmarsh @jokamojo Fatih Akin's In The Fade a revenge thriller that neatly turns the tables. Has tv drama feel but Diane Kruger convinces #Cannes70 @heyuguys

So who's winning best actress?
Kidman? Kruger? A shared win for The Beguiled cast? Dunst? Who?

So who's winning best actress? Kidman? Kruger? A shared win for The Beguiled cast? Dunst? Who? Kruger's probably got the strongest singular notices thus far, but I still think a shared win for the Beguiled ladies is certainly possible. I don't seem to recall any of them having particularly standout notices against each other within the film, and if they don't opt for a jury prize or Director for it, I can see them giving the female ensemble the win as a way of acknowledging the feminist angle of the film and Kidman's banner year.

So who's winning best actress? Kidman? Kruger? A shared win for The Beguiled cast? Dunst? Who? It's a bit of a shame that as of now, none of the actresses got stronger reactions, my gut tells me that Dunst has a good chance, from all the critics I'm following, she was mention as the stand out between the cast. Maybe Kim Min-Hee, she seems to do a lot with a not so good part, or the actress from A Gentle Creature if we count how much they have to play/convey, that character seems to have an odyssey in front of her. But I trust the jury, particularly Almodovar, when he said that he would take special care with this prize.

And now for the Ramsay:

all these reviews are making me so happy. Lanthimos, Baumbach, Ostlund, Coppola, and now Ramsay. So much more more exciting than the last couple festivals. Only disappointing response so far has been Wonderstruck, and those reactions were still positive.

So, for final predictions I'm going with something like
PALME: 120 BPM (alt: Loveless) JURY: Loveless (alt: The Beguiled) PRIX: Okja (alt: L'Amount Double) DIRECTOR: Ramsay, You Were Never Really Here (alt: Safdies, Good Time) ACTOR: Pattinson, Good Time (alt: Garrel, Redoubtable) ACTRESS: Kruger, In the Fade (alt: Kidman, Beguiled or Sacred Deer) SCREENPLAY: The Square (alt: Happy End)

Damn, this just surged up to near the top of my anticipated-for-the-year list. This and Killing of a Sacred Deer are easily the most promising films to come out of the festival for me.

MY BOI JONNY I'm starting to think that he might take the Vulcan Prize, if they defer to someone else (i.e. Coppola) in Director, as a way to acknowledge the film. Still predicting Ramsay, though.

I doubt over Burwell, honestly My initial prediction was for Wonderstruck to win the Vulcan (and Burwell seems a good pick for it). I have noticed a lot of praise for Greenwood, though, and he did win a similar prize at Berlin in '08 for There Will Be Blood. His scores tend to really stand out in a way that gets under people's skin, and if Ramsay doesn't win Best Director, a good consolation prize could go his way. I'm sticking with my prediction that she wins it, though. Now if we're talking who has a better shot at an Oscar nod, Burwell does for sure.

My final predix:
Palme d'Or: 120 Beats Per Minute Grand Prix: Loveless Jury Prize: Okja Director: Lynne Ramsay, You Were Never Really Here (Alt: Sofia Coppola, The Beguiled) Actor: Robert Pattinson, Good Times (Alt: Adam Sandler, The Meyerowitz Stories) Actress: The ensemble of The Beguiled (Alt: Vasilina Makovceva, A Gentle Creature) Screenplay: The Square (Alt: The Killing of a Sacred Deer) Vulcan Prize: Something for Wonderstruck (Alt: Jonny Greenwood, You Were Never Really Here)
I didn't list alternates for the Palme, Grand Prix or Jury because I figure they're alternates of each other at this rate. I also feel like if there's a tie this year, it might be in Best Actor. I definitely feel a woman is winning Best Director, especially with that jury and the prevailing themes of the festival. I'm also keeping an eye on Diane Kruger as well.

It's indeed raved, but it's not a movie that might deserve a consolation or NEEDS a prize (and even then, they can go with Joaquin for Actor in that scenario)

Joaquin definitely has fans on that jury. Jessica Chastain particularly raved him as one of the all-time greats back when they were on the circuit in 2012. It's very possible he could go there.

Vulture's Oscar potential: .
Rumor has it that Almodovar loved Wonderstruck and it's his favorite of the fest, so perhaps it will emerge as a stronger contender than expected
