david ehrlich ✔ @davidehrlich OKJA starts, huge boos at Netflix logo. Then film plays in wrong aspect ratio and Grand Lumiere almost rioted. movie stopped. #Cannes2017 Kyle Buchanan ✔ @kylebuchanan Well, it's already fucked. Cannes goers booed the Netflix card on OKJA, then booed more as the film was mis-projected for the first 10 mins Gregory Ellwood @thegregorye Disaster at OKJA. Movie starts with top of image cut off. Audience who already booed Netflix card clap, yell, scream. (1) #Cannes2017 Steve Pond ✔ @stevepond Okja screening at Cannes halted after 10 mins of booing, hooting & rhythmic clapping, mostly from the balcony. Welcome to Cannes, Netflix. holy fuck didn't see that coming tbh

So what is OKJA winning? Director? Jury Prize?

I hope it wins something now.

So what is OKJA winning? Director? Jury Prize? I can see it getting love from Smith and Park at the very least, so Jury Prize sounds like a plum spot for it.

The Cannes audiences show up to be assholes, and it pisses me off. You get the chance to do something that most any cinephile would dream of, and you boo at every fucking movie. Give it a break.
The movie itself doesn't really look like my cup of tea at all, though.

I don't understand the bias against Netflix among some cinephiles. A large company willing to make plenty of movies that would normally never be seen widely accessible, and allows creators to have control on their own works. I prefer to see a movie in theaters as well, but theaters were always going to have a tough time competing with TV's growth and the Internet's massive amounts of content. Netflix is just about the best case scenario for a leading streaming company.

Netflix is just about the best case scenario for a leading streaming company. Not just that, but films are being made not just for theater presentation but also for the home video market. And in an age where people can buy home-theater systems, you'd think they would be able to understand that it's cost-efficient to have an avenue like Netflix, as well as being able to enjoy creative freedom. But the "purists" bitch and gripe about the presentation.

I heard very divisive things about Good Time, but Pattinson is supposedly a showcase role and could contend for Actor

Isn't it funny that they boo the Netflix logo (how mature) for supposedly hurting big screen movie presentations and then the movie is shown with the wrong aspect ratio and is turned off because of its big screen presentation. Next thing they'll say will be that Netflix did it deliberately.

Richard Lawson ✔ @rilaws THE SQUARE is the TONI ERDMANN of this year. Comedy of manners and socioeconomics that's often brilliant, but is too long and overstuffed
Tim Grierson ✔ @timgrierson THE SQUARE: Wildly thematically and tonally ambitious comedy-drama. Loved its nerve, wished its batting average was a bit better #Cannes2017
Beatrice Behn @danslecinema 2/2 What a film! Puts you in disbelief, despair, disgust while making sure you'd never think you'd be any better. #TheSquare #Cannes2017
AADowd ✔ @aadowd Not 100% on how it adds up, but THE SQUARE is something else: a scathingly funny comedy about intervention & social responsibility #Cannes17
Peter Bradshaw @peterbradshaw1 Ruben Östlund turns an art museum into a city-state of bizarre, dysfunctional and Ballardian strangeness in The Square #Cannes2017 #Cannes70

FilmLand Empire @filmlandempire 120 BPM: a battle cry filled with rage and tenderness. Masterful #Cannes2017
david ehrlich ✔ @davidehrlich 120 BPM: very strong, sensitive docudrama about ACT UP Paris and "living politics in the first-person." #Cannes2017
Caspar Salmon @casparsalmon Robin Campillo's 120 BATTEMENTS PAR MINUTE is triumphant: robust, sensuous, funny, tender, glintingly intelligent, devastating. #Cannes2017
Gregory Ellwood @thegregorye 120 Beats Per Minutes gets bogged down by too much Act Up mtg minute but much of it is very moving. Incred perf by lead actor
