Jordan HoffmanVerified account @jhoffman 2m2 minutes ago Michel Hazanavicius' LE REDOUBTABLE is the best Woody Allen film in decades. Adored it. JLG purists may hiss at end. C'est la vie #cannes17
Jason GorberVerified account @filmfest_ca 2m2 minutes ago REDOUBTABLE - A Godardian knot of exquisite design, a better JLG film than any in decades. Precocious and profound #Cannes2017

Hmm, interesting they're still so high on Loveless
Zvyagintsev is such a Cannes favorite, but this film may be too dark for the top prize
120 BPM seems like such an easy Palme winner, but it's the first film from the director and could be relegated to Jury ala Nemes for Son of Saul
The Square is one of the most acclaimed films of the fest, but it's still an odd comedy and that didnt bode so well for Toni Erdmann last year-- maybe screenplay
Okja feels like a good bet for Director or Jury
Redoubtable reviews are good, so maybe Prix or Actor
I think Wonderstruck leaves with nothing

AADowd ✔ @aadowd THE MEYEROWITZ STORIES isn't Baumbach's funniest or his sharpest, but it might be his most moving. Sort of his TENENBAUMS. #Cannes17
Justin Chang ✔ @justincchang THE MEYEROWITZ STORIES (Baumbach): More of this Adam Sandler, please. Loved when it became a stealth remake of SUMMER HOURS. #Cannes2017
Donald Clarke ✔ @donaldclarke63 THE MEYEROWITZ STORIES Pitched more towards Squid-Baumbach than Frances-Baumbach. No riot. But a pleasure. Sandler good. #Cannes2017
Nikola Grozdanović @nikgroz THE MEYEROWITZ STORIES: as waggish as you'd expect from a Baumbach film about a dysfunctional family & THAT cast. Nothing more. #Cannes2017
FOX Cinemas @foxcinemas The Meyerowitz Stories is Baumbach's Royal Tenanbaums, a family portrait that's moving, irreverent and very funny. Sandler's ace #Cannes2017
Kyle Buchanan ✔ @kylebuchanan THE MEYEROWITZ STORIES feels like an agreeable limited series. Adam Sandler stretches a bit, but Baumbach still let him wear cargo shorts.
Tani Erdmann @tannerstechnij MEYEROWITZ STORIES is fabulous. Perhaps Baumbach's best ever. Touching, honest with a touch of Baumbach cheekiness. #Cannes2017
Robbie Collin ✔ @robbiereviews Kind of love that Adam Sandler is so rarely as great as he is in The Meyerowitz Stories, because when he is it feels so revelatory #Cannes70
erickohn ✔ @erickohn THE MEYEROWITZ STORIES: Solid Baumbach in bite-sized pieces. Squabbling neurotic NYC family stuff is familiar but endearing. #cannes

Wow at Sandler's reviews. If he's supporting and movie gets qualifying run he's a legit contender.

Sooo... are we looking at Sandler as a legitimate contender? Possible, but un (etflix)likely, I think. Perhaps in terms of Oscars and other major prizes, but I can see the likes of Will Smith really stumping for Sandler on the jury. Sandler is getting more singular standout notices than most of the other male contenders at this point, although I think it's largely magnified by the "Adam Sandler's good for the first time in a decade" narrative.

Oh, absolutely. I meant at the Oscars. Elba getting SAG and Globe love last year shows that Netflix isn't a death knell for other awards bodies, and of course the Cannes jury is its own separate beast. I'm still not predicting Sandler, but I didn't mean to write him off here.

I mean, it goes without saying. But apparently, the film can also be viewed as a pseudo-sequel to Amour.

I genuinely believe Sandler can win Cannes with all the buzz surrounding him
Happy End's reviews are polite, but obviously weaker compared to Haneke's last few films-- I wonder if he leaves Cannes with nothing

Baumbach rises
The more I see from him, the more I love him. This one sounds like it's going to be fantastic.

Robbie Collin Happy End is the first Haneke film that could have conceivably been made by the fake Haneke Twitter account. #Cannes70
The world's snarkiest. grating, no-talent movie reviewer is still at it and I still ain't laughing.......I'll stick with Haneke and judge it on its own merits......... what with him being an actual genius and all.
Just sayin'
