This Andrea Riseborough campaign phenomenon is fascinating to me. I'd be very impressed if they pull it off.

Kate Winslet straight-up calls Riseborough's performance "the greatest female performance on-screen I have ever seen in my life.”
Which is wildly hyperbolic to be sure, but this passion coming out of nowhere is insane. I swear, if she comes in with a steel chair and knocks out Williams, I would be delighted.

I guess it's just the first time her team (or she personally ) asked them to publicly vouch for her right in the middle of Oscar voting!

Considering the box office of this movie is so miniscule, this is definitely a classic Sally Kirkland/Carol Kane/Diane Ladd old-school campaign. And you know what? I'm here for it.

Well, Winslet and Riseborough will be working together on an upcoming HBO special, so she could be hoping to generate buzz for that.

Me too, simply because I'd appreciate even more craziness thrown in the Oscars nominations announcement. I can already hear those gasps from the press people. Although Riseborough should've somehow campaigned for Best Actor where there's an open slot just waiting for a stealth contender like this.

Although Riseborough should've somehow campaigned for Best Actor where there's an open slot just waiting for a stealth contender like this. I thought the same thing. But honestly, I don't think it's entirely out of the realm of possibility. There's really only two locked-as-you-can-get performances in Best Actress with Blanchett and Yeoh. Williams missed SAG, which is a critical miss considering she's in a top three movie and by rights should not have missed out there, and if she misses BAFTA I could easily see a situation where she gets frosted out. Davis is a Globe/SAG favourite, but I feel like The Woman King missing PGA and a few of the guild shortlists it should have made shows vulnerability. Deadwyler and De Armas are underdogs and the SAG gets show passion but I want to see if they can keep that momentum going through BAFTA. Oscar voting is happening right now and this strategic blitzkrieg campaign could pay off. There's blood in the water.

I'm dangerously close to predicting her tbh. I loved that Frances Fisher tweeted the math and that Riseborough only needs 228 #1 votes if I remember the tweet correctly. If all these people actually place her at #1 and get some more of their friends too, I think she could reach that 228 number. I hope all these people are genuine though. I’m not sure why they wouldn’t be since I’m sure Riseborough and others associated with To Leslie have worked with a lot of the people supporting her and the film now, but from certain areas like Reddit and what not, people are pressed about this saying there must be a lot of payola behind it. I don’t know maybe like the NFT thing, there could be something nefarious going on, but I choose to be naive and believe that people worked on the movie are just going the old school Diane Ladd/Sally Kirkland way of promoting it to their friends to get word of mouth out there about it. While I do wonder if maybe it’s too late to campaign now, I guess I could see why they’re going all in now because there’s been many a failed actor in a very small film who tried to promote themselves all season and went nowhere (Diane Ladd, Ann Dowd, etc.). Might as well go for the brass ring I guess since 100% of the actors who do campaign all season probably want an Oscar nomination as their end goal.

Right now, Corsage is dealing with its own bad press and Krieps hasn't been helping matters with some of her controversial statements of late. Catherine Clinch definitely deserves some consideration for Best Actress, but there is no chance that Hollywood A-listers would rally to promote a child performer, especially considering how much they tend to overlook them.

I know, I meant it mostly as a joke (the Corsage scandals are really unfortunate). It's just so random that there's this wild campaign for Riseborough this year when every year there are a ton of small films with towering performances and these A-listers never gave two fucks about it.
