Sounds like an excessive punishment, anyway the good news is that he's only banned from attending the Academy events, but he still can be nominated and even win.

Someone needs to make an actual "historical recreation" video game like that Kennedy assassination thing where you can play Will, Jada, or Chris Rock and potentially alter the outcome of events. Like, you can stop the event from happening by doing nothing as Smith, calming him down as Jada, or dodging the punch as Rock, or you can kill Rock if you play as Smith and then he goes to jail afterward.
