maybe it had something to do with the fact that I dislike several of the winners, but IDK, to me last year's ceremony was the weirdest, most awkward, and excruciatingly boring ceremony I've watched since I started watching the Oscars in 2008 and it wasn't just the absence of clips and visual representations of any kind (although that certainly made it more boring). The fact that they held it at an open-air train station, and that very few people attended and most people were doing Zoom speeches and the lack of musical performances was just the ultimate illustration of how COVID ruined everything in 2020. It felt like a hack job, hastily thrown together because they had to have *something*. It was sad like those backyard parties where people talked over fences. Like awww, they're trying. They're pretending this is normal.
This year's Oscars were a trainwreck full of terrible decisions but it was closer to normal, and I don't know I'd rather hatewatch a bad ceremony that's closer to what I know than fall asleep to a boring one. The 93rd ceremony was a living breathing reminder of how horrible that year had been and it was honestly painful to watch.

This makes me think that the Nolan-Zimmer partnership is over. Why? He said he found his soulmate in Villeneuve and he is going to be a regular on his films. He won't have time and patience to score for another big time filmmaker. So i think he will put his heart into Villeneuve's films and do pay check projects in between.

Soderbergh really botched it by not showing clips for the nominees. I’m actually fine without clips. Usually it’s just someone yelling or a small, cheesy segment of a monologue, and it kinda makes the actors look more try-hard than they really are. EDIT: Ir it can be a complete nothing. I think Kodi Smit-McPhee’s clip really highlighted that. Smit-McPhee’s performance is terrific, don’t get me wrong, but how the hell do you “Oscar clip” that performance? It can be hit or miss I agree but it’s still important, especially to give exposure for general audiences. And I’m talking about categories like Costumes and Production Design also.

Yeah, I will never understand people's obsession with clips. They're usually ridiculous out of context and as we've seen with Tucci/Blanchett/Phoenix, the actors find them embarrassing. Montages, on the other hand, those I will never get enough of . . . if they are done correctly. On that point do we all remember 2019 when they introduced the acting categories via montages of the performances, that was the perfect approach, and should've become the standard.

Couple that with the sound montages of 2015 and you have perfection.

So... yeah. What a terrible night full of some nice, albeit very predictable wins. The hosts got some chuckles out of me, that Sorkin jab was fantastic, some nice fashion, those montages of top five moments were fucking ridiculous and that might be the worst in memoriam I've ever seen. Also, Will Smith is a piece of shit.

Yeah, last year's godawful ceremony truly revealed the importance of clips to me. Clips in all categories, not just the acting ones. The show is supposed to celebrate the nominated movies...and to me not showing anything from the actual movies is just ridiculous. When last year they announced the tech nominees by just standing beside them and telling some anecdotes from their lives it was the lamest shit ever. Show the viewers an example of their nominated work dammit!

Get Chris Rock and Will Smith to co-host the show next year. The viewership would be up 200%.

Before it gets really old.... My mini-recap on red carpet looks BEST Jada Pinkett Smith. She owned the night... for this particular reason. This is what the Oscars red carpets are made for. Great color (green stone???), dramatic, exciting, etc, legend. The torso area Not far behind: Jessica Chastain. Just like in movies, I also have fashion pet peeves... the way most designers try to accentuate the waist with a belt or rope, blagh. The beauty of Chastain's dress is that is fitted in the waist but is invisible and in the meantime transforms from one bright, magnetic color to other, the low part is the cherry on top. This is the kind of dress an oscar winner should always wear.... the moment I saw Penelope on the red carpet I knew it was over Kodi Smit-McPhee. Perfectly fitted. risky color, love the way the bottoms are distributed and jewerly insted of classic bow tie Lily James. Simple silhouette but a huge among of quality details if looking closer. Is incredibly sexy but not in an obvious way Lupita Nyong'o. She gave us the LOOK of the night... I found women in gold sort of irresistible tbh. The unusual sleeve for a dress and the strips that go from very short to very long is what won me over, the pink flowers are nicely distributed as well. Sebastian Yatra. Very old school. Obsessed with the waistcoat and the shoes. Perfection. A great example of how to make a tuxedo interesting Saniya Sidney. To be young and happy... Doesn't have a lot of elements but looks really nice. The curves that creates the fabric is sort of a miracle + one from last year: Regina King (the only one I found memorable) old school silhouette but highly complex in details. Intriguing, appreciate the effort: Kirsten Dunst. Extravagant, over the top and elegant at the same time. And it's vintage, that fashion label doesn't produce anymore... It would look better holding oscar though... and a more dramatic hairstyle Maggie Gyllenhaal. The more I look at it, the more I love it. The shoulder element did it for me. Olivia Colman. I actually kind of hate Dior because of the stubborness to put belts and ropes in dresses but this is a great color and the sleeves are fun. Without that rope and let the fabric flow and do its thing... it would be one of my favourites. Timothee Chalamet. Actually a white t-shirt is missing. Amy Schumer. It makes sense on her, funny, humorous, simple... Nice ideas but looks cheap: Zendaya Rickey thompson worst: Caitriona Balfe. what a weird shape. and why the ruffles ? Kristen Stewart. What a waste, she could've done something Diana-like. this is just sad Daniel Kaluuya. fits horribly And a few others: Nicole Kidman, Traci Ellis Rose, mostly boring stuff...Penelope Cruz needs to break the contact with Chanel (same for Kristen)

Wow, Oscar fashion has really gone downhill. The last time I was wowed by something was I think... that gown Cate Blanchett wore when she won for Blue Jasmine and that was 8 years ago. Michelle Williams in yellow Vera Wang is still undefeated.

I know we're tired of this, but I think it's being fair to put it out there. Just as Jada having alopecia adds context to why things were sensitive, it should be made clear that according to Charlamagne who talked to Chris Rock the night of the Oscars, he had no idea whatsoever that Jada had alopecia. People can believe that or not, but I believe it because if you watch the clip, the way he says "over a G.I. Jane joke?" he sounded genuinely confused in a "but that was so mild" way.
On the bright side, Rock's ticket sales are soaring...

If only I were rich, I could hit a man and tell higher authorities no and continuing reaping the rewards.
Will, in any other scenario, you could have come out of this the bigger man while Rock would have faced public scrutiny. Literally ANYTHING other than what you did would have been better. Even screaming “Keep my wife’s name…” angrily from the audience without the slap. But now, it’s like a Pandora’s Box where the rabbit hole just gets deeper
