I think she really wanted it, too... She seemed really excited about being the oldest-ever nominee. Surprising her performance never caught on... I would have thought her big scene would be catnip to Awards bodies. As great as she is in that moment, and she really is great in it, I never really thought the rest of the performance worked (but it's not really her fault, but that of the film itself). Personally, I think Molly Parker's really the person who deserved supporting actress accolades for that film. I totally agree with the Molly Parker sentiment. She was really good in a very complicated role. Burstyn was miscast! She's 88 years old and we are suppose to believe that she has two daughters in their early 30's. She would have had to have them while in her 60's! What? Was there not an age appropriate actress to fill the part (cause that person would have been nominated today with that scene)?! It was absurd casting. Period.

They certainly saw they would have empty seats and "we accept the award in the winner's behalf" in most of the speeches. Depending on where the nominees live and/or are working, might be literally impossible to show up.

Chadwick is sadly no longer with us, Carey lives in England, Daniel lives in England and Maria is filming in England right now/Youn lives in South Korea.

Good thing having a camera on your face makes you COVID-proof.
