If someone as big as Scarlett Johansson exposes herself and speaks out like this against the organization, it means the Globes are over. But they can't just speak out they need to boycott. They didn't do that last time and participated in the show and that's why the Globes didn't change anything.

Well, that's a Holy Shit moment.
I think the HFPA might have finally realised their very existence is in danger. The reforms will have to be massive. Maybe even a mass culling of their current membership.

Maybe even a mass culling of their current membership. The problems are always at the top and they need to get rid of those people. I doubt they figure it out. People like this always think the solution is to hire one black person and be done with it. Nope. That's not it. NBC made the right decision, they told them we are giving you a year to figure this out and if you continue to not meet the standard then you will be out. Period.

Interesting the Tom Cruise story broke before the NBC one. I wonder if that was the catalyst.

Ehh...I'm kinda cynical whenever Tom Cruise does anything like this, because it's more than likely on the advice/direction of David Miscavige (Scientology Head Honcho) to generate good PR for Tom (and by extension the cult). Right now, the one organisation more disliked in Hollywood than Scientology is the HPFA. So this is a great way for Cruise to earn PR brownie points. I don't think Tom is doing this for his son. I think it's an easy way to generate positive PR for Tom as directed by his "religion".

If Tom Cruise, Baron of Scientology, doesn't want to be associated with your organization, you know that organization absolutely fucked up.

They could have done it on the heels of the Netflix/Amazon announcement but they waited 3 days and then did it 10mins after Tom's story broke.

Warner and HBO today announced too their boycott. They were cooked anyway, but Cruise gave them the coup de grace.

About fucking time it happened. The anti-HFPA reckoning has truly just begun.

Some other network might snatch the ceremony rights for pure dark PR Although the broadcast will be a bit weird without any guests. Anyway, it's hilarious to me that Hollywood found its scapegoat after years of sucking the HFPA lollipop, bribing them with trips and concerts and other special bullshit like that for awards. Especially funny that the studios sever ties with them quick AFTER this year's ceremony and after their horses winning their trophies. Hollywood is one funny place. That's why I kinda respect the Cruise thing - of course he's done it for pure PR but at least he actually did something substantial by returning the damn things. That's proactive! Very curious as to what the HFPA is gonna do next. How they're gonna reform the membership and all that. I dunno about the bulk of their current members but I do know that one of the Russian representatives is not really a journalist but a wannabe Schwarzenegger - a star of Z-level action movies that nobody goes to see. He's a pompous ass and a laughing stock of Russian movie fans. His name is Alexander Nevsky I read one of his 'articles' on the HFPA site - it was about "Goodfellas" and it was simply a collection of trivia bits from IMDb about the making of the movie. Some factoids collected together. If this is an example of what journalists they have there, then the whole thing ought to be completely reworked. From scratch.

He's not some universally beloved star (like say Tom Hanks) who really could sway opinion like that. NBC has probably been heading in this course of action since Netflix and Amazon cut ties. And they probably had advance knowledge that HBO and Warner we're ready to do the same. It's a good PR move for him, but I would not overestimate it's actual influence in NBC's decision.

NBC saw a huge star boycott the Globes they knew sooner or later the others will join in and they wanted to get ahead of that story.
