It's incredible this organisation is still credible, because this is not the first time this kind of shit has happened with them.

Yeah like I think this should be a big deal, but it really isn't a surprise at all The part about the Globes having no black voting members bothers me the most even though sadly it’s not surprising at all. I guess the other stuff barely even registers with me because of how long the Globes have been corrupt (Pia Zadora, Nocturnal Animals, Brothers, Sharon Stone, etc.) Of course I don’t think it’s right, but I don’t think it will ever change unless stars and studios somehow started boycotting them or not attending them, but that will never happen.

I mean they nominated Music for best of anything, so seems like their lack credibility is something they basically own. It seems like you can get away with a lot when their major award show selling point is "Free Booze!".

Yeah like I think this should be a big deal, but it really isn't a surprise at all The part about the Globes having no black voting members bothers me the most even though sadly it’s not surprising at all. The Globes race issue has always been patently obvious (their track record acknowledging black women in particular is abysmal). They will throw a bone here or there to black talent and regularly acknowledge one of the few "chosen ones" like Denzel (being the starfuckers they are). But yeah....hardly surprising that their Best Picture line-up didn't include any of the most acclaimed films of the year that happen to have all-black casts ( Da 5 Bloods, Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, One Night In Miami, Judas And The Black Messiah etc) when they don't have a single black voting member. Have to wonder if there will ever be sweeping reforms with this organisation. including diversifying their voting membership.

Why do they still exist??? They always influence the race in a bad way by picking the wrong movies like in recent years with Green Book, Bohemian Rhapsody, and 1917, and all because of gifts, bribes from studios and all the services they receive. They should abolish the Golden Globes!!

I honestly don't know how they became so prestigious. Every year I wonder who the HFPA is anyways and why they have so much sway on awards season. I know the GGs have been around for a damn long time but who are these people?

Not surprising but I hope this becomes a massive scandal. The GG really should be abolished. It's awful how they shape the race mostly based on rocky aka. criminal foundation.

This isn't surprising at all. The Golden Globes voting members are heavily influenced by bribes, and star wackery, that's why you get a random nomination or two every year like with Music or The Tourist. The lack of diverse members is the just tragic cherry on top of it all.

In a way GG has become the most important award show nowadays as it decides how all the televised awards would go, which is preposterous.

Story getting more coverage. Plus the race angle seems to be drawing more attention:
Some reactions from Ava Duvernay and Regina King to the story
Turns out there may be a way the legally punish (or force reforms) the Golden Globes as they are a not-for-profit California corporation, subject to that state's non-discrimination laws. So they can have their tax exempt status removed potentially.

As somebody who actually quite liked Emily in Paris, even I was floored by its nominations. It was watchable, empty headed fluff and there's no way it should've gotten in over I May Destroy You,which was masterful television.

Hmmm, I wonder if we're going to see any sort of random winner results in reaction to this.

So every few years the Globes has a new scandal but the fact that the Tony Award - which is considered a far more prestige oriented award - can quite literally and directly be bought through ad revenue (since ~1990!!!) - to newspapers and magazines is never, ever reported, investigated, or considered........probably because we have really shitty reporters in America. Thank goodness the Oscar and the Emmy's remain bastions of film and TV legitimacy.

I don't know what the show would even look like this year to begin with, but would be super cool if nominees sat out of the ceremony this year in protest. Seems like a good time for everyone to send them a message to get their act together.

Have they nominated any Black actors at all this year? They may give them the most acting wins this year just to salvage some damage... (if they are even clever enough to do that... somehow they all just seem dumb to me...)

Hmmm, I wonder if we're going to see any sort of random winner results in reaction to this. Might have a bigger effect on Oscar voters not neccesarily perceiving the Golden Globes BP nominees line-up as the "legitimate" BP frontrunners. May have a knock-on effect of making the SAG ensemble line-up (with most of the Black films the Globes snubbed) the more credible BP group, and film's in that line-up may perform much better than expected with AMPAS voters. Interesting times.

(if they are even clever enough to do that... somehow they all just seem dumb to me...) They have nominated black actors, just not any of their films. They aren't completely stupid. Snubbing The likes of Chadwick Boseman or Viola Davis would create the kind of uproar that even they don't want to deal with.
