Episode 3 thoughts I'm glad Kimora "what's an ajetive" Blac is gone. Aja really brought it with that lip sync, but I wasn't really wowed by any of the outfits or characters in the challenge. I think this episode got things back on track after being underwhelmed by the first two. That Pulse segment was really upsetting, I'm glad they brought attention to it.

Valentina for the win. She's gorgeous, obviously but also a pretty good performer and seems really sweet.

I'm still quite underwhelmed by season 9. I can't even put my finger on it, but something seems off. I think the queens are quite lackluster (except like 3 or 4). Usually by episode 3 I have at least 2-3 queens I absolutely love. Not this time though. Maybe its the editing because the queens dont really get the chance to show their personality. It also seems a bit watered down and not as real as it used to be. It seems like VH1 changed something (I again cant quite put my finger on it).
I also feel like RuPaul is less and less interested in doing the show. He is quite half-hearted when he talks to the queens and also during judging. Its like a spark is missing.
Oh, and Miss Aja.. In advance she was all "Im a big performer. I pity anyone who has to lipsync against me". She didnt really serve it. It was the second underwhelming lipsync of the season. She was all jump split but we've seen that a thousand times already. And shes so deluded regarding her look. The differences between her true face and these Instagram pics are ridiculous.
Im kinda fearing for my favorite (guilty pleasure: its not really because its good, but its still cause its quite trashy) tv-show. Ever since its peak in season 6 it kinda plummeted down. Season 8 gave me hope after the dreadful season 7, but season 9, so far, is the worst season of RuPaul. I hope things will change over the course of the next episodes.
Valentina, again, was MVP for me. I also continue to like Peppermint a great deal. Nina Bo'Nina Brown is getting lost in the crowd after serving EVERYTHING on episode 1. Trinity Taylor is a bit too bitchy for my taste, but she is one to watch. Id place her in the top 4 but no further (quite like Kennedy, who she has plenty in common with I think). Eureka still has great potential, but shes still a bit too attention whorey for my taste.

This Season just got a decent bit better. Although they seem to be struggling so far to develop any tension between the contestants. When they can't even manufacture something of note, I think its fair to say that people might be avoiding being 'the bitch'.
Glad Kimora is gone, she was a terrible prediction on my part to do a decent job.
So after two weeks wilting in the background, Aja finally gets a chance to show what she can do and I was beyond let down. Her runway look from head to toe is in my opinion the worst in the herstory of Drag Race. It's even more laughable when you consider she was bigging herself up as a talent in making outfits. It was worse that Shangela's Christmas look, or even Jiggly Caliente's post Post-Apopoloptic one. She did kill it in the lipsync department, so props there.
I kinda shat on Trinity Taylor after the first two episodes, but I am somewhat turned around on her now. She seems to be very funny, nicer than I gave her any credit for and talented in the runway department. She has just gone way up in my esteem. I guess I should stop being so quick to judge the pageant queens, but then again it was one only week.
It was nice to see a bit more from Charlie Hides, and Valentina remains one of the main players, but she is failing to interest me. Sasha Velour continues to do nothing for me either.
Prediction after week 3: Sticking with Shea Couleé or Nina Bo'Nina, but they are being closed in on by a few girls.

Even though the challenges were quite good the queens failed to deliver. And I think its the season with the most 'throwaway' queens. The first 9 queens eliminated didnt do much for me. And Im still not over Katya being eliminated in 5th place. That was one of the worst eliminations ever. The top 3 were quite lackluster as well. I dont know. It wasnt the shows brightest moment. But no season was as bad as the All-Stars seasons. Dont even get me started.

In terms of Season 7, I thought at least half of them were very talented, with a few among the best of the shows whole run so far, and that's about the most I ever hope for. Agreed on Katya though, worst elimination ever on the show, except maybe Willam. The only thing that could have made that moment redeemable would have been if Willam had walked behind the judges and shouted 'Nurse'.

Hahaha, thats really interesting now, though, because many find season 6 to be the series best. But Im quite happy to hear that there are fans who like season 7. I found season 6 to have one of the strongest top 3 in the herstory of Drag Race. (Wouldve been even stronger if it had been Bendela instead of Courtney). Bendela was also a bit of a shock, just like Katya. I mean, how in the hell was Darienne any better than Bendela? But yeah, I found season 6 incredibly strong. After the first three to four eliminations (Kelly, Magnolia, Vivacious, and in a way April, but her postshow work showed that she is somewhat talented) it was mainly quality queens left. And it had some guilty pleasure queens like Gia and Joslyn. But who out of season 7 were among the best of the season? I mean, Katya no doubt, but who else?

I even have to give props to Kennedy and Ginger, though it pains me to do so; as while I might not have liked either of them much, they definitely had a lot of strengths. It does seem to me with all the Drag Race finals, from 3 onward, they always have one sorta weak link in them. Alexis Phi Phi Roxxy Courtney Ginger Bob I actually think that Season 2 had the best Top 3, in terms of consistency in quality between the 3 contestants.

I agree with you on Gingers and Kennedys strengths. Especially the former was really quite consistent and Im still quoting her Adele. "My house". Epic! They were both bitter bitches though. Out of the top 3 I wouldve bumped Ginger tho. Pearl, who kinda stayed past her welcome, still managed to do a 180 and really impressed me in the second half of her season. I actually didnt necessarily love the Top 3 of the first two seasons. Season 1: Didnt care for Miss Glasscock and I was really bummed out when Ongina got send home instead of Bebe (however great her lipsync was). Season 2: As talented as she mightve been, Tyra was not top 3, let alone winner material. She was such a bitch. I wouldve loved to see Tatianna in the top 3, who is one of my favorite queens evurrr! Season 3: No doubt about Alexis. I mean, God. Shouldve been Shangi or Delta. Season 4: Again, no doubt about PhiPhi. How Latrice didnt make it in the top 3 I will never understand. Her last three bottom 2 appearances made just as little sense. Season 5: Again, no doubt about Roxxxy. I just now realized that its almost always a bitchy queen in the top 3. It shouldve been Detox in the top 3 or Alyssa (one of my other favorite queens). I mean, Jinkx assassinated Detox in that final lipsync, but still. Detox was way better than Roxxxy. Season 6: No doubt about Courtney. Shouldve been Bendela. Season 7: Katya for Ginger. Season 8: This is actually a pretty strong Top 3. Naomi, just like Pearl, seemed to overstay her welcome and then came up from behind (something she probably doesnt usually do, ha ha). So, you dont like Bob then? Who would you like to have seen win that season?

In terms of 2, as big a bitch as Tyra was, I just think her skills in the challenges made her worthy of the final. She shouldn't have won though. We can absolutely agree there. I actually would have put Yara Sofia in the final of Season 3 with Raja and Manila. I love Shangela, but Yara was do damn talented. Season 4 definitely should have been Latrice over Phi Phi. In terms of Season 5, Alyssa over Roxxy. Also, that Jinkx v Detox lipsync...a classic, especially as Jinkx annihilated her. Season 6 & 7 we agree on too. With Season 8, I do think they got the final right, but Kim Chi should have won. She was as funny as Bob, and also had some of the most insane skills in fashion and makeup that the show has seen. I don't necessarily mind Bob too much, but he just wasn't nearly as funny as he thought he was.

Yeah, Tyra was deserved. But it was very hard for me to root for her due to her personality. Jujubee shouldve won. She was absolutely hilarious! Yara Sofia for me is a big question mark. I felt for her when she got eliminated tho. (the Puerto Rican queens are really rather week usually I feel) Alyssa over Roxxxy, definitely (same goes for All Stars, obviously). I agree on Kim Chi. She was something new, something special. She wasnt the loudmouthed entertainer Bob is, but she had a great sense of humor! Agree on Bob overestimating his own comedy. Do you think they let Bob win since there wasnt a black queen winning since season 2? Raja is of color, but not of African American heritage. I would love to see an Asian queen winning and they unfortunately always passed on them in favor of a black girl!

Kim Chi was also still in the closet and that will hinder his career until he can come out fully, he's obviously still got a long way to go with his confidence. If you can't see that, then you're deluded. It's got fuck all to do with their races.

You might have realized that I was actually asking, wether another user felt that Bob won because hes black. I totally get why Bob won. Hes basically more sellable than Kim Chi. Kim Chi is better look-wise but shes not the in-your-face-entertainer Bob is. Shes maybe a bit more of a Violet. Anyways. You cant tell me that the judges never discuss diversity when choosing a winner. I mean, its a show that celebrates diversity and visibility, so not having any winners of color would look a bit odd. Regarding Kim being in the closet, not too sure if that had anything to do with her not winning. I think they just felt that Bob was a bit more versatile maybe? And it was just an observation that the two times a black queen won there was a highly talented Asian queen in the top three. Thats all. So, dont be a drag, love .

So, about last night..
First observations: Eureka is always the last one to get off the runway which underscores her slight attention whoreyness. Also, her attitude towards Sasha was not appreciated. She was great during the challenge tho.
Aja remains one of the most overrated queens this season. And her make-up. I mean. Watching them beating their faces its just ridiculous seeing the others and then Aja. I dont know if she has cheaper make-up, or if she just doesnt know how to apply it or because its due to her bad skin. She was bad at the challenge tho. If the team hadnt been safe she wouldve been in the bottom.
Valentina, for the first time, was kind of in the middle. I still like her and she seemed very genuine when she was putting Aja in her place.
Shea, finally, I see you! She was great in the challenge and her runway look was hot. She really is one to watch.
Sasha finally owned up to her potential. She remains one of the smarter queens of the competition.
Peppermint I still love although she stumbled this week.
Ferrah was alright in the challenge and she looked good. Middle of the pack.
Trinity, that lipsync was on fire. In the challenge however..
Nina really has to work on her self-esteem. She seems veeeryyy fragile and I have no problem believing she was depressed when she got the call. She rocked the challenge and the runway tho.
Alexis was very good in the challenge but I still tend to forget her.
Cynthia is a sweetheart and she was good in the challenge. I still find her rather one-note tho.
Charlie, my god.. I read somewhere that he had two broken ribs which hindered him from performing during the lipsync. He did, however say, that hes not a lipsyncer, so, yeah. I was very let down by him in general. He was a pain in the ass in the challenge and just didnt live up to his potential.
General:
Why are there no more Mini Challenges? I really miss them loads. The shortened runway was a disappointment because I live for their comments (judges and contestants) I still havent fully warmed up to this season. The editing is weird (they, again, just showed one group preparing) and RuPaul seems less interested than ever. It was one of the stronger episodes this season, but still not up to par with previous seasons. I really start to feel that the move to VH1 hurt this show.

Do you think they let Bob win since there wasnt a black queen winning since season 2? Raja is of color, but not of African American heritage. I never really thought Race was a thing in this decision, or any on Drag Race. I just think Bob was an easy and obvious choice for a winner. Perhaps Kim would have been viewed as a somewhat similar winner to Violet, and it would have been too soon for that.

So episode 3 then. I guess it's good that we finally are getting some tension between the gals. Eureka is obviously a massive pain in the ass, but she is holding her own in the competition and that is what counts, so I don't see her going away anytime soon. I am completely turned around on Trinity Taylor after this week and the last. In my face I guess!
On the contestants: Aja: Should be so pleased she lucked out by being on the winning team, she was so crap. She also seems like a bitter asshole, so I'm really over her. Alexis Michelle: I have nothing on her, she just doesn't resonate with me. Cynthia Lee Fontaine: I didn't find her as annoying as usual this week, but I'm still bored of her. Eureka: Complete nightmare of course, but she's the only tension right now, so perhaps it would be better for her to stay for a while. Farrah Moan: Who? Nina Bo'nina Brown: I'm getting worried I'm going to find her annoying, but she is still nailing the contest side of things. Peppermint: Very disappointing week from her, but I'm not going to lose faith. Sasha Velour: Finally!!!! I get why people had high hopes for her. She nailed that challenge. I didn't ever expect humour to be her forte, but it seems like it may be. Shea Couleé: I think she's the slight favourite for the win right now. Along with Sasha, she was dynamite in the challenge and nailed the runway. I think she's the only contestant with a strong performance every week so far. Trinity Taylor: Her being in the bottom 2 was a lousy and wrong choice, but I doubt many could have outdone her in the lipsync anyway. Valentina: The halo she didn't really deserve has slipped. I do still like her though. Charlie Hides: What a let down over her time on the Season. Although I did like his I haven't got a hope, so why bother trying attitude to the lipsync.
Current Winner Prediction: Shea Couleé

And with that I will lay that topic to rest!

Since I havent quite figured out how to quote singular sentences I copy pasted something I said earlier: levpoldkahnt Avatar Apr 13, 2017 at 1:16pm levpoldkahnt said:Do you think they let Bob win since there wasnt a black queen winning since season 2? I was having a conversation with another user here and while discussing the previous winners I simply stated, that the two times Black Queens won there was an Asian Queen in the competition I felt was better than the queen eventually winning. So I did ask that one fellow user if he thought that they won because of tokenism. I do know that Asian people are of color as well, but the Oscars last year showed that #OscarsSoWhite did not include Asian actors and actresses and Chris Rock didnt really address the exclusion of Asian people (or Hispanic or.. or..). So when it comes to inclusion in the media industry it is usually more about Black people. Obviously Raja is also of Color (as I stated in my original post but forgot to say in my last one. For being so nitpicky I am really surprised you let that one slide. But you made your point better this way, hm?). So, once you decided to judge me for that question and suggesting, whatever it is youre suggesting, I simply stated that I would be surprised if the judges werent looking at race AT ALL. So, imagine there were 8 white winners. I think that would spark an outcry, especially BECAUSE the show is so diverse and inclusive (which, by the way, I stated in a previous post as well). So, again, I did NOT say that Tyra, (Raja) and Bob won because theyre black (of color). I simply asked the other user if he thought that they CONSIDERED while choosing a winner. He said no. I also do NOT think that they won because of their skin color. HOWEVER, I can IMAGINE that it is something they at one point consider. And for the record, YOU brought race in this discussion. I asked a fellow user (not even you) a simple yes or no question which he answered and we would be talking about other things for a few days now if you hadnt been blowing this way out of proportion. However, if I triggered something in you I am very sorry. Sometimes things get lost in a written exchange. I do also have to mention that English is not my native language so sometimes I come off more crass than I intend to. And frankly Im a bit offended by your aggressiveness. But maybe you come off more aggressive than you intend to. So, can we please just lay this topic to rest and enjoy talking about them drag queens? Thank you! PS: all this time I forgot about Bebe (season 1) who obviously is a Black queen winning. But Ive only ever watched that season once because I can no longer find it anywhere.

So, we're 5 weeks into this thing now and the Season still has zero fire in it. I'm just finding it lacking in so many things, the most notable ones being creativity, humour and interesting characters. The episodes themselves just seem so sloppy and rushed and the last two runways have been a total joke in how fast they ran through the girls, especially in the lingerie challenge last week. The runway and subsequent judging has always been my favourite part of the show, but this year it all seems so lifeless and disconnected. Anyway I'll shut up whining about the show and start whining about the contestants.
Aja: Still looking forward to seeing this chick Sashay Away. Alexis Michelle: Somewhat more notable this week, but she's still barely on my radar. Cynthia Lee Fontaine: She was crap on Season 8, she's crap this time. I'm hoping she's hits the road soon. Eureka: I'm kinda disappointed she's gone. I sorta liked her. Farrah Moan: So damn forgettable, so her bottom 2 appearance at least reminded me that she existed. Nina Bo'nina Brown: She needs to get over herself, but I'm still loving her work, and if she could just lighten the fuck up, she'd be a sure fire contender for the final. I'm crossing my fingers she has an amazing snatch to show us and get herself back in the game. Peppermint: Last week I said I was disappointed with her work, but I wouldn't lose faith. I am now starting to lose faith. Sasha Velour: She's very consistent, even if she has only really impressed me once so far. Shea Couleé: Obviously still the #1 bitch right now. Her week in week out great work is giving my Bob vibes, but we'll see if she has his consistency in the long-term, as it is still early days for now. Trinity Taylor: Still really liking her after my strong early reservations. Valentina: Like Alexis, if have nothing against her, but I just don't care yet.
In terms of the elimination, that was just abysmally done. It was such a painfully obvious and lame attempt to generate some sort of Sharon, Phi Phi, Willam moment. It failed like pretty much everything on this Season so far.
Current Winner Prediction: Obviously Shea Couleé, so fingers crossed someone steps their damn game up and make this a contest.

They reminded me that this was the first time we've really seen the pit crew and that their undies aren't as tight. Screw you, VH1! Really not feeling this season, but this was the most enjoyable episode so far, despite the sad(ish) elimination. I am so fucking done with Alexis. She is absolutely unbelievable on Untucked. "I take responsibility for my clothing choices... BUT WHY DIDN'T YOU ALL TELL ME HOW HORRIBLE I LOOKED? THIS IS ON YOUUUUU." It's a competition, bitch.
