Worst Snatch Game Ever!!
I keep on waiting for something great to happen this Season and I hoped this would be the moment, but it really wasn't. Alexis, Nina, Sasha and Shea all did a nice job, but none of them gave an out and out WOW performance, especially in the comedy stakes. In the snatch games of previous years, most of the second or third best performances were better than anything those four offered up. I actually thought Trinity was doing a good job too, but she was barely featured. Aja I can't judge as she may as well not have been there, but from the little we did see, it didn't appear like she was going to be offering up a lot. Farrah and Peppermint were terrible, but they hadn't a patch of Cynthia. I really think that was the biggest mess I've seen on this show, possibly in any challenge. Jiggly's post-apocalyptic look was tidier. Also, I think it was Michelle who said in judging, that she was tired of the Queens doing other Queens. I'm right there with you Michelle.
In terms of the runway, it was nice to see a better go around in terms of the Madonna looks. It really was way superior to the first try, but at the same time, I still wasn't floored by the quality of looks or inventiveness. This is Madonna we're talking about Queens, one of the most visually iconic ladies of all times. They've had two tries now and no one has really thrown out a jaw dropping look. I guess Acid Betty and Valentina deserve some props for trying to be a little unconventional with what they did.
Edit: Sasha also did well in the Madonna stakes.
Anyways, I'm glad Cynthia is gone. I just don't think she's a particularly good Queen in terms of what they're looking for on Drag Race.
Post episode 6 winner prediction: I'll stick with Shea for now.

I really love Valentina and Trinity, and Shea and Sasha are very good too, but otherwise I'm just not invested. I really like Peppermint's personality, but that's pretty much all she has to offer so far. I thought I'd like Alexis, but she's mostly annoying and her Snatch Game win still bugs me. Not like anyone killed it or anything, but it was very in the realm of Alyssa's Joan Crawford in how it's like she had a list of things she wanted to say and she was gonna force them into an answer no matter how irrelevant they were. Fine enough impersonation, but there was not cleverness or interaction with the prompts the way Sasha had. Farrah is an actual toddler, and I like kids so that's endearing, but when the only consistency you've shown is that you're not good at anything that's an issue. I keep wanting to like Nina but she really doesn't want me to and I think I need to respect her wishes.

Well now, we finally got ourselves what felt like an episode of Drag Race of old. I don't mean to get get myself all carried away and let my expectations rise, but has Season 9 finally gotten good? I guess we'll see next week if they can turn one great episode into momentum. The title for the next episode is "RuPaul Roast", so it could be a classic, or a classic trainwreck. I'm allowing myself to have high hopes in either case.
Anyways, back to the one that just was. The challenge was great and even if the results weren't particularly hilarious, they were amusing enough. Trinity Taylor rocked it, and I will now apologise yet again for judging her harshly after Episode 1. She is comfortably my favourite queen on the show this season. Alexis, Sasha, Nina, Farrah and Aja were all pretty much fine in the challenge, I don't think any of them were outright crappy anyway. Peppermint was quite good, and Shea and Valentina were really great, but Trinity slayed them all. I really think she's a top drawer comedy queen and she doesn't seem to ever profess it as being one of her talents, which is quite amusing when you consider how 'funny' some of the queens who professed to be one, actually were.
This was also the first week were I felt the Queens really gave us some memorable looks on the runway, and I'm slightly gutted that Aja finally pulled her shit together on the runway, just as she was sent packing. I think she definitely had the look of the night and one of the looks of the Season so far.
Overall I think Aja was the right one to go. I am getting fed up with Nina and her generally dour attitude, but I just find her so much more interesting than Aja. Also, I think Farrah probably deserved to be in the bottom with Aja, but maybe being in the bottom two will be a kick in the ass for Nina. Perhaps we might see a Pearl style turn around from her.
Post week 7 prediction: Sticking with Shea, but I'm happy to say that I can really see Trinity giving her a tough fight for it.

Nina's inner saboteur drama is exhausting. I can't anymore.

So Episode 8 was pretty solid stuff again, not as good as 9021-HO, which is the best of the Season up until this point, but it was really good nonetheless. I was a little disappointed with the quality of the roast stuff, but for the most part these queens aren't too good with comedy, so I shouldn't really have been surprised that it was just good overall. I don't think any of them really went far enough, but maybe that's just me.
Sasha and Shea where pretty good and Sasha should have won the challenge. Peppermint and Nina put in a decent showing too. I was disappointed with Trinity, her inconsistency is probably going to be her undoing in this contest. I expected little from the rest and they delivered. The bottom two was spot on and the right person was eliminated. I feel as though Farrah Moan will go down as one of the most forgettable contestants to ever make it to the halfway point of a Season of Drag Race.
So now that we are halfway through, who are people feeling as a winner? I really want it to be Trinity, but she's so up and down. I think as it stands it would seem to be Shea or Sasha, but things change quick in this race.

I just realized again how underwhelming this season is. I finally wanted to give my impressions of the past few weeks and I couldnt really remember all the challenges and in what order they happened, who stood out and who didnt.
So, the last I commented on was the Newscast Episode.
So, in chronological order:
Kardashian: The Musica - Episode 5.
I barely remember anything from that episode. I dont care too much for the Kardashians, but it was stellar entertainment. I liked Peppermint and, of course, Shea Coulee and I thought Alexis Michelle was hilarious. It was really quite up her alley. I think it was very close between Shea and Alexis. I wouldve been fine with either winning. The rest kind of faded into the background for me. I was rather annoyed by Nina victimizing herself. Its these moments where I miss Tyra Banks. She wouldnt have it. Wouldnt you love a "We are all rooting for you, I dare you!" outburst from Ru? I guess hes too indifferent at this point tho. Its really frustrating tho, because Nina is talented. But no way is she gonna win with that attitude. Eureka was quite funny as well and it was disappointing to see her go. She was one of the queens that stood out. Its something to look forward to for next season I guess. This episode marked the second in a row where Valentina was very mediocre. Cant really remember the rest.
Snatch Game - Episode 6.
This was one of the most boring Snatch Games ever. (A tie with Season 8 I might say). Sasha and Alexis were the clear standouts. Again, I wouldve been fine with either winning. The rest were mediocre to flat out embarrassing. I mean, how can you come unprepared for Snatch Game? Ill never understand! I just remembered Cynthia's abysmal performance in the Kardashian Musical. I mean, a queen who cant lipsync, really bitch? Peppermint, I think, got way too in her head. Shes usually quite funny and has great comebacks. This just wasnt her moment. I was ecstatic to see Cynthia go. She just wasnt up for the challenge, I think. Shes just too one-dimensional. Dont remember the other queens. But, oh, I think they should forbid the queens from imitating other queens. It just isnt that big of a challenge.
(By the way, is anybody else annoyed by Ru making Sashas intelligence out to be something worth hiding? Im a bit frustrated by their constant "youre too smart" comments)
9021-Ho! - Episode 7.
From this episode I remember that Valentina, finally, was back on top. I think she was, hands down, the best this week. Trinity was very funny, but I think Valentina showed more variety. Shea was really good as well, showing that she is very versatile. Peppermint wasnt too bad either, but just not as commanding as the other three. Aja and Nina were some of the blandest actresses of this tv-show, yet. Again, Nina was playing the blame game. I cringed to bad when she said "it figures" suggesting that Tory and Jenny were out to get her. Its just ridiculous. Aja's hissy fit was just annoying and she very deservedly went home. This was the first elimination (and the only one yet) where I wasnt 100% sure who would go home. Since Im quite annoyed with both I didnt really care.
RuPaul Roast - Episode 8.
I was really looking forward to this episode. I like my queens snippy and bitchy and the last Roast was very entertaining. First of all, the library was probably one of the weakest ever. Also, Alexis bitching about the comments was a bit eye-roll inducing. I wondered why no one commented on her huge bald spot, but that wouldve made her leave the competition. Valentina was the deserved winner of the read. The roast itself quite obviously separated the girls into safe, top and bottom, like there were no doubts as to where they would place. The standout for me was Sasha, hands down. She had great timing, she was able to make fun of herself and her jokes were the most innovative. (Again, they had to comment on her being too smart. Ugh). Shea was really entertaining as well. And I loved Peppermint. I dont think she deserved to win, but I was happy for her. And the editing suggested that shed either go home or will win the challenge. I enjoyed Valentina as well, but it was a bit too uneven. Nina was alright. She benefitted from the other three being so horrendous. I actually closed my eyes and shielded my ears during Farrah and Alexis because I just couldnt take it. It was just too embarrassing. It was about time Farrah was sent packing. What a forgettable queen.
General observations:
So far, there were two mini challenges? And we saw the Pit Crew once. I wonder if VH1 had something to do with it, but I dont like it. Also, Im over these "afterschool special" moments where they discuss the topic of the week. It all feels so scripted.
How I would rank the remaining queens:
1. Sasha - I find her very genuine and polite. She is sensitive and very considerate. She has a rather unique style and point of view. She manages to surprise me and I like that. 2. Shea - She is a very close runner-up. She seems fun and nice and she is very versatile in her talents. 3. Valentina - when she succeeds she succeeds! But she managed to be forgettable in 2ish episodes. Also I find her a bit affected at times. 4. Peppermint - she is so sweet. Might be Miss Congeniality material. She is quite inconsistent tho.
5. Alexis - the two times she was good, she was goooooood! Im a bit irritated by her attitude tho, and the times she didnt deliver she was very forgettable. 6. Trinity - I only remember liking her 9021-Ho performance. I find her a bit too bitchy and cocky and she is very inconsistent. 7. Nina - How the mighty have fallen. She hasnt delivered in a while and her personality is going on my last nerve. Its a shame, tho, because if she wasnt standing in her own way she would have a chance of getting very far.
Top 3 predictions: Shea and Valentina for sure. Im worried that Sasha isnt their cuppa tea. Peppermint would have to deliver every week from now on to grant a place in the top 3. Same goes for Trinity and Alexis. I feel like one of these two might make it, because they usually have a polished seasoned queen.
No chance of making the top 3: Nina. Unless she makes a Pearl, but it might be too late for that.

The recent episode was decent enough I guess. I'm getting a little tired of the Season being a bit of a procession to victory for Shea, with only Sasha and possibly Peppermint now seeming like feasible competition. I'm still holding out hope for Trinity, but I think I'm just pipe dreaming with that. I suppose I'm lucky that I like Shea, Sasha and Peppermint, even if Shea is pretty repetitive on the runway and surprisingly hasn't been called out on it too much, if at all. I feel like most, if not all of the remaining queens would have struggled to Top 3 on any of the previous Seasons.
I was somewhat sad to see Valentina go, but she completely deserved the boot.

Shea CouleƩ winning the season will be so underwhelming. She is a fierce all-rounder but she provided nothing that we haven't seen in the previous seasons. Trinity Taylor on the other hand would be such an interesting choice, much like Jinkx Monsoon, a fresh breath of air to Drag Race scene, because she's this overqualified pageant queen who can really shine in comedy. She's like Alyssa Edwards, as in naturally, effortlessly funny, but with so much actual talent in comedy that makes her better than Alyssa. It's refreshing really to see a pageant queen who was thought to leave early in the beginning of the season but brought so much to the competition. And even the mention of her name in that SNL sketch shows how she changed the game so far.

Totally agree with you all the way along, she really is like a more talented Alyssa Edwards, and I like Alyssa Edwards so no shade there. I think I may have referred to her in a previous posting as a comedy queen, who doesn't claim to be a comedy queen and is funnier that most queens who do make that claim. I did such a one eighty on her too. I'm pretty sure I slammed her in my early postings on this thread and at some point, probably around the 3rd or 4th episode I just started to really, really like the person and the drag queen.

I fell behind and just finally watched last week's episode. Broke my heart to see Valentina implode like that, but at least it was amazing television. She's one of my all time favorites regardless. Nina's victim complex is so boring at this point, and Alexis is a total goober, so whenever they wanna go I'm okay with it. Trinity, Sasha and Peppermint are all I really care about at this point. Trinity and Sasha cause they're perfect and amazing all around, and Pep mostly cause I like her personality and also because she dressed up as a damn peppermint and it was incredible. Shea is obviously doing really well, but isn't nearly as exciting or interesting as Trinity or Sasha. And I'm getting real bored with her parade of swimsuits with stuff around her shoulders.

She's back in the Game!! So delighted to see my favourite back as a contender again. I so badly want her to win right now. Also really pleased with how well Sasha did, she kinda stepped out of the shadow a Shea this week. It was good to see Shea stumble too. I admire her a lot for her consistency, but I was starting to find her a little samey on the runway, and when she had to do something different she stumbled. A week of weakness isn't going to kill her anyway. Alexis was pretty blah, and she would have been just as worthy of a placement in the bottom two as Shea, but I figure her time is almost up, as I don't see her in the final three. I actually thought they were overly harsh on Peppermint, I didn't think the outfits were that bad, especially her own. So Nina is finally gone. It's a shame to an extent, because as much as I was over her poor me, poor me attitude; she was so much more talented than Alexis and I think Top 5 would have been good for her, but thems the breaks. I think a lot of people, myself included, would have had her as their post week 1 prediction to win. In an ideal world Alexis will finish 5th, Peppermint 4th and Trinity will take the crown, but my Drag Race wishes just don't seem to be coming true this year.

This Shea winner's edit is almost as bad as Bob's. Almost. Pretty frustrating that Sasha was told she was too high fashion, too little drag... and they gave Shea the win for 2/3 outfits that met the challenge and were worthy of runways in Paris or whatever the fuck. Ugh. Shea is talented, don't get me wrong, but I don't think she's exceptional or exciting. Her talking head where she's going off on Alexis for being basic, I think most of Shea's looks have been just that. I've really warmed up on Trinity these last few weeks as it leads to the most predictable top three in recent memory, and I think it would be really refreshing if she could take the crown. But I have such doubts, sister.

Gayest Ball Ever or: What Does a Bald Gal Have to Do to Win a Damn Challenge Up In Here
So another week, another Shea win, and while I can't take too much away from her performance, in fact it was probably her most creative work; she absolutely shouldn't have won that main challenge. That was Sasha from look 1 - 3, and I just can't get my head around the decision to give Shea the win...it was mopping of the highest order.
Sasha even slayed them all in the mini challenge, which brings me on to how much of a relief it was that the didn't do away with Puppets in the practical banishment of mini challenges this Season.
Grumbles above aside, this was a very good episode. The queens got a bit shadier, and overall they got to show a lot more creativity than they have shown, or have been allowed to show this Season. Sasha was boss, Shea was very good, Trinity was quite strong and the other two were present.
I think the show has the right final four at this point in time, although Peppermint is lucky she's a witty sweetheart who can lip sync up a storm, because she doesn't have a lot else going for her.
I know the crowning of Shea is an all but full gone conclusion, but I'm still allowed to dream that Trinity can take it home, or even Sasha would be preferable to Shea, because through no fault of her own, I've started to resent her a bit.

Curious to see how the finale goes. Been awfully predictable so far. Agreed, it is a very strong final four. I would say its weakest link (Peppermint) would be stronger than the weakest of a lot of third place contestants from previous years, never mind forth place. I think while this hasn't been a particularly strong season of television, it has been a great one for the upper end of quality Queens. I would be shocked if Shea doesn't win, like this will be me.... The nice thing about this Finale, is that if one of the ladies that isn't Shea wins, I'll be happy for whichever one it is, as long as it's Trinity . All joking aside though, I do really like all four of them, and typically with finale episodes I have always had at least on of the three on my shit list.
