Winslet has been DOA for a while now.

Winslet has been DOA for a while now. I wouldn’t be surprised if she snuck in. If she gets globe drama and bafta that may be all she needs.

Is Kirby getting nominated at least? She's getting such great reviews!

Is Kirby getting nominated at least? She's getting such great reviews! Kirby's biggest problem is that her film is a very grueling watch, and it might be too much for the average voter to stomach. I feel like she's also competing with Mulligan for the same bloc of voters.

I think we have a solid 4 of Davis, McDormand, Mulligan and Day, and then Kirby and Streep are fighting for the last spot.

Streep was easily the best thing about The Prom, but I swear to god if she robs Kirby of that nomination... Pieces of a Woman has a lot of problems, but Kirby is incredible. Hoping for the best for her, but we know how things tend to go with Streep.

Well, I thought Kidman was at least as good as Streep (maybe a touch better, as Streep was a bit too caricaturish before she settled into her character as the film went on, wheras Kidman got her character right from the start) , despite less to do. Streep had the much heavier load to carry though, which is why I rate them about the same. But yeah, they were easily the best performances in The Prom.Need to see Kirby's performance soon.

Is Kirby getting nominated at least? She's getting such great reviews! If enough voters do see the film, I doubt she'd miss. It's not that much of an inaccessible film unless they turn it off in the first 30 minutes. It's bleak but not necessarily slow-paced and its IMDb/Letterboxd ratings are rising. Her performance is incredible by the way. I think it depends on the campaign and visibility at this point.

The problem might not be turning the film off part way through, but turning it on to begin with.

So we still talking about Streep in The Prom?? I thought the Annual Meryl Nomination would be for Let Them All Talk...

So we still talking about Streep in The Prom?? I thought the Annual Meryl Nomination would be for Let Them All Talk... Let Them All Talk has no real buzz at all, and any little awards chatter there is around it seems to centre on Candice Bergen in supporting actress. Wheras, at least with The Prom, absolutely no one would be surprised if the Golden Globes threw it nominations across the board. And it wouldn't be a huge shock if it showed up at SAG. If Streep contends for her regularly scheduled filler nod, it will be for The Prom.

The bias against horror movies really sucks because Streep is probably getting nominated again.

Yeah what Pup said really, The Prom is looking good for at least a couple of Globe noms, and a SAG Ensemble nom is certainly on the table.

Having seen both Nomadland and Ma Rainy, I woulkdn't accept a Davis win... She's good and all, but:
A) McDormand is phenomenal B) She's actually supporting...
So imo her performance wasn't better than McD's and her win would be another category fraud.
Thank you.

The problem might not be turning the film off part way through, but turning it on to begin with. Well this aged terribly. Turns out Pieces of a Woman is doing very well on Netflix.

Thank you. ^ Pretty much this exactly and she's not the best performance in the film which always hurts Best Actor/Actress contenders......not that you can't overcome that but it's a barrier to be overcome. Her performance also isn't better than Mulligan's who dominates every single scene of her movie........

The bias against horror movies really sucks because Streep is probably getting nominated again. What horror contender even is there?? I loved Imogen Poots in Vivarium, Elisabeth Moss in The Invisible Man, Andrea Riseborough in Possessor and Haley Bennett in Swallow. And for other options more outside the Academy's comfort zone, you have Maxine Peake for Fanny Lye Deliver’d, Moss or Odessa Young in Shirley, Evan Rachel Wood in Kajillionaire, Alison Brie in Horse Girl, Aubrey Plaza in Black Bear, Noémie Merlant in Jumbo and Julia Garner in The Assistant.

She won't be Netflix's #1 priority and the British/European bloc will still lean towards Mulligan. She's 4th at best.

Otherwise she'd have been nominated for Little Women (which had buzz, just not for her), The Laundromat, Mary Poppins Returns, Suffragete, Ricki And The Flash and more. Yes, she gets nominated with more ease than any actor alive, but she still needs buzz to do it. Let Them All Talk is a buzz free film, where any buzz that does exist is going to one of her co-stars. I'm super confident Streep isn't happening for that.
