Who are some of the contenders you're anticipating making a dent in the race?
I've got:
Jessica Chastain, The Eyes of Tammy Faye Olivia Colman, The Father
Who else are you seeing?

I can definitely see Amy Adams back in the game with "Hillbilly Elegy", Frances McDormand is a definite contender for "Nomadland", Ana de Armas can absolutely make a big awards breakthrough with "Blonde" even if the movie itself will be divisive.
Jennifer Lawrence feels like a surefire nominee for that A24 movie. And Jennifer Hudson is playing Aretha Franklin which can be big although the behind-the-scenes team is quite unknown. If not her, Andra Day is playing Billie Holiday in a Lee Daniels biopic. And of course Viola Davis is in the hunt for "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom".

Winslet, Ronan - Ammonite Hudson - Respect 2020 is all about repeat winners - Hanks in BA for his 3rd .......which will reconfigure the way we think about actors I reckon, because with 3 BA's he gets labeled the GOAT by some ...........but that's a different thread

Also Robbie might be in contention for that O Russell pic if it comes this year.
And then there is Saoirse Ronan.

I imagine both Colman and Ronan will end up getting pushed into supporting for their respective films.

Gonna second @raygittes07 - Netflix just picked up world rights to The Life Ahead starring Sophia Loren - could be a major performance, actually. And she'll be 86 by the Oscars.... would make her the oldest Lead nominee ever.....

Imagine: Sophia wins Best Actress after having won a lifetime achievement award almost 30 years ago, with her having won her first Oscar 30 years before that!

Wow, that's pretty major. 60 years after her first win... and I don't think the foreign language factor would be an issue here. Make it happen, Netflix!

The Eyes of Tammy Faye has been pushed back to 2021...
Amy Adams, Hillbilly Elegy Frances McDormand, Nomadland Michelle Pfeiffer, French Exit Saoirse Ronan, Ammonite Kate Winslet, Ammonite
I know it's highly unlikely, but in a year as sparse as 2020, why not go ahead and push Ronan and Winslet as co-leads?

I know it's highly unlikely, but in a year as sparse as 2020, why not go ahead and push Ronan and Winslet as co-leads? Because it's never been about the sparseness of a year being the reason they don't run co-leads in the same category. They try to prevent vote-splitting by dumping one of their co-leads in supporting to maximize their chances at winning. It could be the crappiest year for the category ever and they still wouldn't do it.

Adams Davis (Predicted Winner) McDormand Winslet
Very confident about those 4, then it's a toss up for that 5th spot between Hudson, Pfeiffer and Day.
