Idk I just figured Viserys aged a billion years because it ain't easy for a guy to be a king, especially when he has no interest in the job and has several parties on all sides of him vying to wrestle away control? It's a physical representation of the toll the job takes on him, and the fact that every character around him is either re-cast or isn't aged a day just makes it more effective and funnier. Good creative choice.

Good creative choice. He barely did anything as King, and the aging out was the disease, coupled with the fact they didn't want to bother with the other actors because it takes too much time and HBO want them looking pretty to appear in the promos.

I have to wonder how much watching the eps week-to-week affected my viewing. I never do that anymore, I wait until the season is out and binge exclusively these days. Watching 10 eps over the course of 2+ months fucks with your expectations and gives you a lot of time to sit and seethe with your criticisms. I think the time-jumpy stuff and character exoduses (especially in eps 6 and 7) wouldn't have bothered me as much if I was binging because the wait-time for the good stuff in the final three episodes would've been infinitely shorter, and you can better focus on the narrative thru-lines that do work instead of being distracted by the inconsistent character threads that don't.
rewatching this should be interesting.

Considine makes sense as lead. D'Arcy not so much (not until S2).

D'Arcy going Lead is actually probably the smart move. Only 1/6 of this years nominees are eligible to return, and The Crown S5 is getting the least good reviews for the show so far. If they went supporting, they'd have to compete against Seehorn, Snook, Debicki AND internal competition from Cooke. Now they're in a 3 way battle with Lynskey and Staunton.

It's better for them competition-wise but that doesn't make them lead. I get the move but it's annoying, and another opportunity for me to complain about the midseason time jump. 🤷

I'll miss Considine and Alcock but a full season with D'Arcy and Cooke with no big time jumps is something I can get excited about. Hopefully they settle in and take their time going forward, because the world & characters are there and this could be a great show.

Season 2 reviews are decent. Lotta praise for Emma D’Arcy and Tom Glynn-Carney.

George, with all due respect, if you had finished the fucking series before selling the rights to it, you would have more room to complain. Yeah, they would've changed some things and maybe some for the better and some for the worse, but at least D&D actually wrote an ending. It was a half-baked, clumsy-as-fuck way to get there, but they got there.

I firmly believe that the D&D ending is what was, at least in large part to, the ending that Martin told them.
Which is of course why he still hasn't finished Winds of Winter and instead is doing other shit. As X says in JFK, plausible deniability.

Which is of course why he still hasn't finished Winds of Winter and instead is doing other shit. As X says in JFK, plausible deniability. Oh, it absolutely is the ending he's been building to. Problem is, he doesn't know how to close things out because he's too busy setting up more dominoes for future storylines, with no signs of winnowing them down. And I think in Martin's world, Bran sitting the throne is actually a horrifying prospect because in the book, he's being set up as the vessel for what is essentially an all-seeing eldritch god that has no need of Kingsguard or advisors. He could just warg into someone and have them throw themselves off a tower if he disapproves of them. He becomes a ruler who cannot be assassinated, cannot be reasoned with, who is truly all-powerful and all-knowing. That is a terrifying ending. But because they failed to set that up properly, it comes off as "... huh, this kid? Really?"
