Ridley could be the first director since Soderbergh to direct two Oscar nominated performances in the same year, in the same category.

I'm intrigued. At the very least, a script by Damon/Affleck/Holofcener, the former two waiting decades to collaborate again in writing, means the script is likely not pedestrian the way many of Ridley's recent films have been weak on the page. And that's all Ridley needs; give him a screenplay that's like 83% thought through and you have a Best Picture contender. I didn't even notice that. Yeah, that's an interesting writer's room.

Oh that's interesting, I wonder if there's a list somewhere with all the examples of that. John Frankenheimer comes to mind quick for '62 Supporting Actress (Angela Lansbury, Manchurian Candidate; Thelma Ritter ,Birdman of Alcatraz) .... William Wyler 1940 Supporting Actor too..... As for Gucci and Duel, Lead Actress maybe... Supporting Actor maybe...

Of course, all the excitement would happen while I was at work. Damn, this looks much more Comer-centric than I expected. May we see her as a Best Actress contender instead? I thought she’d be borderline leading/supporting, but she seems more leading than I thought. So now I’m thinking right now Comer/de Armas/Gaga/Hudson/Stewart. I don’t know who I would take out if McDormand goes leading. .. mostly looks like it's going for a sense of grand awe ... You say that like it's a bad thing This looks a lot better than I was expecting (very gritty/intense feel to it judging by the trailer) It will take a bit of time to get used to Ben Affleck's Simple Jack hair style & Matt Damon's Joe Dirt hairstyle but damn this looks quite good. Count me in. Yes, I know I’m like a broken record, but at least the trailer calmed my fears on how bad I thought it could turn out. I know I’m getting ahead of myself, but this would seem to have the “importance” factor. Plus, with today’s TIFF announcement, and I know pacinoyes talked about this earlier in the year, I feel like studios are either already planning to hold back films until next year, or they’re just waiting to see what’s going to happen with the ongoing pandemic and are going to skip the festivals altogether this year.

Well this just shot up on my most anticipated list. Big missed marketing opportunity though by not saying “From Ridley Scott… the director of Gladiator”, no? He used that like a dozen times already. Can't keep on riding that horse forever.

Yeah but I’m sure it’d help peak the interest of general audiences more if they were to know that the director doing this historical epic has previously made one of the greatest ones that people still fawn over.

Visually this looks absolutely amazing. Which doesn't really surprise since Ridley is a master of this. And Ridley also doesn't antyhing better than epics, so this should work as well. Now the question mark to me is how good the story really is and how it is told and developped.

Yeah, that's how I figured it went down and makes a lot of sense. I imagine it'd be smart for more productions in the future to bring on female screenwriters to at the very least punch up female perspectives in films, especially with such sensitive subject matter.

This was a very smart move by Scott and Co. You can tell that he knew exactly the sort of pitfalls that would come with telling this story of story in the wake of #metoo, and he's always been one of the best female-centric filmmakers out there as it is.

Sees why Matt Damon is trending on Twitter. Hastily closes it. He’s such an idiot. No one needed to know that he just stopped using that slur, and he didn’t need to pass it off as being cute that his daughter told him to not use it and that he didn’t realize it on his own. Fox please keep a muzzle on him during The Last Duel promotion. Just let it be all about Ben and Jen with only Comer, Holofcener, and Driver being the only ones allowed to say anything at all.

Damon's always had a foot in mouth problem. This is the paradox of keeping out of the public eye unlike some other stars. He doesn't have a strong enough PR team to steer him away from saying dumb shit that is easily avoidable.

Maybe he makes a call to Paul Schrader and have him do a solid by writing another one of his Facebook musings posts.

I just googled it and when I saw he said the F ***, I assumed it was the other F word. I thought to myself, what's wrong with him saying that. Then I continued to read the article and nope, it was not that F word. I can't believe Matt thought that was okay.
