This is making his very factual comments about the pitiful state of cinema go under the radar

Not to stereotype because I don't know anything but is there some..."thing" in particular with Bostonians and that word? Bill Burr uses it (or used to) in his act a lot when doing caricatures of his townie friends.
There's some weird delusional train of thought going on here, like he's trying to be self-effacing and show how much he's grown with a "live and learn" story that he doesn't realize is a disturbing overshare. The Liam Neeson thing was a darker version of it. I don't know why this reminds me of that but you can just sense they expect a different reaction. Like "aw me too!" lmfao.

I guess the only excuse I can make for Damon is that he grew up in Boston and in certain neighborhoods of that city it's the norm.

In fact, you're making it sound like people from Boston are incapable of understanding the evolution of language and understanding that slurs have a negative impact.

I just googled it and when I saw he said the F ***, I assumed it was the other F word. I thought to myself, what's wrong with him saying that. Then I continued to read the article and nope, it was not that F word. I can't believe Matt thought that was okay. Matt Damon has always been such a smug , clueless dbag. He was friends with Harvey Weinstein after all. And his lack of self awareness is utterly fascinating to me. Like how can someone be this out of touch with reality? Does this fucking idiot want some sort of award for no longer using that gay slur? "oh how noble of him to give up saying that word. What a great guy he is!"

It is very indicative of the sort of bubble he seems to have allowed himself to live in. Like Stuck On You is your reference point, get the fuck out of here dude.

I can't believe he's even telling people this. All he did was confirm to me that he 100% knew about Weinstein.

heard him say something about this on Maron's podcast. Is that where all this is coming from or did he go and make his problematicness a cute junket anecdote

He means in public. LMAO. Poor Matt. He is beyond clueless.
This drives me crazy. Is it an ego thing? We all know there are certain slurs that will piss people the f off so why the hell do people act as though they can get away with saying it.

Is that where all this is coming from or did he go and make his problematicness a cute junket anecdote I don't remember this being mentioned on Maron. He did talk about his daughters making fun of him for The Great Wall (one of them insists on calling it The Wall because "there's nothing 'great' about it.")

"In my house we have a jar so that whenever I say that word, I have to put a dollar in the jar. Well, ladies and gentlemen, I'm proud to say that as of 5 minutes ago, that jar is EMPTY!"

Looking at the original quote, it does seem like the incident was him quoting a line he had in Stuck On You and his daughter being upset that he didn't censor the word in his quoting. So maybe not him just casually throwing the word around in everyday conversation, but still not something you'd want to pass off as a cute anecdote on a press tour.

Ooohhh. (yes, that's an ocean's pun), he still needs to read the planet. like i said, it is ego. he thinks he's special and can just drop that slur along with any other slur just because he can. Ummmm,,,, no.

He 100% should have just kept his mouth shut. But this story seems to be a bit overblown.

We all know there are certain slurs that will piss people the f off so why the hell do people act as though they can get away with saying it. He can get away with it because he is a big time outspoken straight white liberal guy in Hollywood (its flat out impossible that Damon could be an ignorant homophobe, he votes Democrat after all!!! He's one of the good guys amirite?! . He won't get canceled or kicked off of social media (if he's even on there I don't know cause I avoid Twitter like a plague). This will all blow over for Damon. He'll do some photo ops with some African kids and all will be well & this will be forgotten in no time. Also his best friend Ben Affleck grabbed Hilarie Burton's boobs on MTV's TRL show all the way back in the early 2000s and literally nothing happened to him. He still gets big roles and funding for his directorial projects. www.buzzfeednews.com/article/krystieyandoli/hilarie-burton-has-come-forward-about-a-time-ben-affleckThe video resurfaced during the MeToo movement and the whole Harvey Weinstein scandal where Ben denounced Harvey's horrible behavior. He only apologized after there was push back from people on Twitter. It should be noted that Ben has never spoken publicly about his younger brother Casey's sexual harassment case (where Casey had to make a settlement with 2 women) These guys may be talented but they are such cocky phony douchebags .

Using a homophobic slur = / = being a homophobe. Like, obviously Damon put his foot in his mouth and his daughter shut him up but this country is full of incredibly shitty people that express bigotry on a daily basis without donating a fraction of what Damon has to charity, you know what I mean? Net positive. Pure numbers. Yeah it's an embarrassing story but there's much more to be mad about than a white liberal actor using a bad word. At least he listened to her. I've never been able to get my mom to stop saying "oriental"

Just pointing out the hypocrisy of it all. If anything it makes me just shake my head and chuckle about it.

Wasn't talking about anyone in here but ignorance makes for such overblown twitter mobs when there's actual bigotry to be angry about. The two are conflated too often.

I've never been able to get my mom to stop saying "oriental" I just really fail to see the big deal of someone using the word as a joke in a private conversation. People are acting like he called a gay man a F****t to his face or like he used the n-word, which is many orders magnitudes more serious. Still no idea why he decided to tell this story since the reaction is extremely predictable.

I think he's just out of touch... as evident by deciding to tell the story in the first place.

stephen Is it too late for Ridley to CGI Plummer into this one? I know Matt Damon has a history of shooting off his mouth often accidentally, but still, you'd think his agent would pull him aside sometime, and tell him to tone things down a bit, because WHOO-BOY!!!
