He Knows You're Alone (1980) ; I'd go about 7.5 (another rated under 5 on IMDb! who are these heathens that can't appreciate a solid slasher?)
Sticks extremely close to the Halloween formula but it's also kind of well done, especially in how the killer is really just an emphasis on the protagonist's stress of getting married to someone she doesn't love, with some clever use of locations and sharp dialogue and several familiar faces in the cast (including Tom Hanks lol) .......

1 Malevolent (2018) 4.5/10 2 The Sound (2017) 3/10 3 The Faculty (1998) 9/10 4 Halloween (1978) 10/10 5 Fright Night (1985) 8.5/10
6 Cannibal Holocaust (1980) I'm surprised it took me this long to finally watch this. I'm also surprised that it isn't a terrible film; in fact the first half is actually a quite good film. It loses its way a fair bit in the second part when it tries to combine its heavy exploitation film tendencies with some sort of really lame social commentary. Still, I was entertained I guess, and some of the practical effects were great. 6/10
7 Fright Night Part 2 (1988) So, like Fright Night, I have seen this many times before, although not nearly as many. I decided to give it another whirl, and I actually enjoyed it more than the previous times I watched it. It is a pretty decent horror film, with a cool gang of villains and some lovely artsy, stylistic flourishes on occasion. It also manages to mostly hold on to the fun tenancies of the original film, but ratchets up the sexy and sleek that the era used to love to associate with Vampires. Also, this film too has some glorious 80s practical special effects. I'm bumping this up from a 5/10 to a 6/10
Both of the above are on the YouTube for those who might be interested.

8. A Bay of Blood (1971) - 7/10
What this movie did right: - The gore effects are stunning and hold up remarkably well for a 1971 film. The fact that this film's violence is still so effective and shocking today is a big achievement on its own. - The music. So fun and 70s! - Laura Betti's campy fortune teller lady. Delightful performance. Definite standout on an otherwise dull cast.
What the movie did wrong: - The story makes zero goddamn sense. This film is basically a succession of gruesome death scenes and red herrings and none of it really comes together. Honestly one of the most confusing and annoying plots I've seen.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers - ****. Wowee, I've actually never seen this before. I thought it was absolutely incredible. And even though I knew the ending already (as probably everyone with internet access has), I was still holding on to hope. Now that marks great filmmaking.

Last night I did a double feature from director Aldo Lado... Last Stop on the Night Train (1975); I wouldn't really consider this a horror but I'll count it here since it's a video nasty (that most fascinating panic in the mid-80s UK). With misleading posters like the one linked above one could get the wrong idea. Yes it's another "exploitation" update on The Virgin Spring (it's way better than Last House on the Left imo). But I was surprised by the low-key 1/3 and the great Eastmancolor visuals. Then there's the controversial middle section that is certainly disturbing but not very excessive, it's more effective bc of its muted, pressure-cooked pitch. The third act, the comeuppance, is just formula but it's necessary and kinda bleak in speaking to a different predatory nature. 7.0-7.5 /10 Short Night of Glass Dolls (1971); Lado's debut, this is just what the doctor ordered. From its uniquely bizarre framing device, the spooky Morricone score, the Polanskian narrative, the otherworldly tone of occult delirium. Reminded me of one of my fav giallo The Fifth Cord from the same year - the leads look exactly the same. Also in the (excellent) editing reminded me a bit of Don't Look Now. Has anybody else seen this? 8 /10
