Rewatched Rob Zombie's Halloween 2. So much better than his first one, which is kind of a mess. I'm still not sold on everything going on here, and I think the film would be better off with some significant changes to the surreal scenes, but the rest of it is actually a pretty emotional look at people suffering from severe PTSD. Doesn't quite hit greatness for me but I do feel it's a strong work overall and gets way, way too much hate.

01 Malevolent (2018) 4.5/10 02 The Sound (2017) 3/10 03 The Faculty (1998) 9/10 04 Halloween (1978) 10/10 05 Fright Night (1985) 8.5/10 06 Cannibal Holocaust (1980) 6/10 07 Fright Night Part 2 (1988) 6/10 08 Dead Silence (2007) 5/10 09 The Woman in Black (2012) 6.5/10 10 Apostle (2018) 9/10 11 Errementari (2018) 8/10 12 A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) 5/10 13 A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) 9/10 14 A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge (1985) 6/10 15 A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987) 6/10 16 A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master (1988) 6/10 17 New Nightmare (1994) 7.5/10 18 Halloween (2018) 8/10
19 Final Destination (2000) Ingenious film, and it has become as much a part of my horror staples as Halloween, The Exorcist, Elm Street and The Thing. It's wildly creative, and also perfectly tongue in cheek a lot of the time. The only problem I have with the film is the Kerr Smith character, who is just an irritating horror cliche. 9/10
20 Final Destination 2 (2003) Really solid sequel. Yes it more or less simply threads the same ground, but boy does it do it well. It has a few of the most likeable disposables in horror, and probably the best death death of the series, which is the second in a shocking one-two punch. 7.5/10
20 Halloween H20 (1998) Sure it's sorta crap, but it isn't intolerably awful or anything. It has some impressive death scenes, particularly the ice skate; and LL Cool J gives some nice comic relief too. Also, the final moments with Laurie and Michael are alarmingly touching. 5/10

31. The Driller Killer (1979) - no idea where I fall on this one... kind of disastrous yet it works at the same time. It's definitely much more enjoyable to watch with Ferrara's audio commentary though.

Halloween 2 (1981) - It's not on the same level as the original obviously, but I actually enjoyed this, mostly for the hospital setting and for Pleasence chewing the scenery. JLC doesn't get a ton to do, but the final chase is pretty awesome, and I love the use of "Mr. Sandman" especially at the end. Yeah, the whole sister/brother thing is stupid as hell, and there are some dull parts throughout that feel like unnecessary padding, but on the whole I think it's decent for its best parts, though definitely flawed. 6.5/10
Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers - this was pretty bland and dull, and Wilbur just lacks the screen presence of Moran. Too slow, stiff, and robotic. 5/10
Halloween H20: 20 Years Later - Not sure why some think this is among the best of the sequels. The opening is good I suppose, but hardly anything interesting happens until literally the last 15 minutes of the movie... and the ending is hilariously awful. Too many annoying false alarms and fakeouts throughout, and the score is tremendously bad. Carpenter's theme is there, but it's too bombastic and orchestralized. 4/10

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1931) - 8/10 at least. It's my first Jekyll movie believe it or not - I went to FilmStruck to see the Ingrid Bergman one from '41 but chose this instead. After that opening shot, I was in! It's great and some scenes quite unsettling, an ingenious mix of style and subtext. This is an Oscar-winning pre-Code Horror that's very clearly <and boldly> about sexual frustration; its use of subjective camera and fx trickery are jawdropping.

In '98 Pacino was supposed to star in a version adapted by Mamet with Harold Becker directing. Fell thru, then Mamet rewrote it for a younger actor, I think cast Jude Law, and almost directed it in '01. Mamet doing Jekyll would be interesting to say the least....

Has anyone seen Happy Birthday To Me? I have $3 in no rush money expiring in two days and I need to find cheap movie. Its worth the $3. You were right, it was worth the rental. If anyone out there likes slasher films then make sure to check out Happy Birthday to Me. It has a really good ending and it appears the Scream writer, Kevin Williams paid homage to it. I can't believe they haven't remade this movie.
