Surprised nobody's mentioning it, but Halle Berry is co-starring in this film. Her first film with Spike since Jungle Fever.

Denzel pictured in an extremely random meet-up with a rapper called Moneybagg Yo ( Grammy nominated in 2023 apparently). So random that these two would have any reason to meet up at all, that I wondered if Mr Moneybagg might be in the cast for this film. Could be a similar casting trick that Training Day used (casting popular singers and rappers like Snoop Dogg, Dr Dre and Macy Gray to help increase the demographic apppeal and reach of the movie). Spike might want some of that in this to go with all the seasoned thespians.
Or maybe Denzel is just randomly meeting up with young rappers for lunch.

Ilfenesh Hadera cast. Wonderful actress. Plays Forrest Whitaker's/ Bumpy Johnson's wife Mayme in the MGM+ series Godfather Of Harlem.
Still no confirmation on Halle Berry being cast, which may indeed mean World Of Reel was just peddling an unconfirmed rumour that she was definitely cast as fact. *Pretends to be shocked*

Fuck yes Denzel and Jeffrey worked brilliantly together in Jonathan Demme's The Manchurian Candidate, so this is a welcome reunion. Hard to believe this is Wright's first movie with Spike Lee though, so thankfully that's a wrong that's been (W) righted! Cast is already looking sick.

I am curious if Spike is going to hew closer to Ed McBain's original source novel, which is part of the popular 87th Precinct series.

Denzel and Jeffrey in another movie together, yes sir! And fresh off his first Oscar nom, so it'll bump up the prestige of this even more. Wright did do a cameo narration for the last episode of Spike's She's Gotta Have It Netflix series, so they have worked briefly but yeah this is his first film with him which is surprising since Wright has lived in Brooklyn for decades.
All we're waiting on now is Al Palagonia to be announced as part of the cast. "I have no idea what the kidnappers are saying, but I'll tell you right now, the language is 100% Albanian"

But yeah, this is their first real film collaboration, which is awesome.

Sometimes I forget that High & Low was actually technically Kurosawa adaptating an American English novel. I'm not a big fan of remaking masterpiece films......... but the McBain novel is referenced in some ways in Sodebergh's TV version - Full Circle - which I think holds a lot of similarities on how this film could be made (expansive and not paired own like the Kurosawa is imo) Not sure if anyone knows McBain's novels under his other name - Evan Hunter - but there's actually corrollaries in his other work that you coul pull into the High an Low plot too........not that he repeated himself but he circled the same psychology an relationships......... Richard Price could have written a great treatment since he knows crime, movie history, McBain / Hunter, NYC........he wrote the novel and screenplay for Clockers etc

Jeffrey Wright makes clear that his main criteria for taking roles is the script, so it's probably a good sign for the quality of the screenplay.

Happy (belated) Birthday Spike I was waiting for this 5th reunion for ever, I didn't expect it to be for a Kurosawa remake but I'll take it, there is something special when they work together. First pic on the set of Da High and Low, Sirchuck is about to boycott this Joint.
