Just wanted to note that the last page and a bit of this thread has been lovely . Peaceful, interesting, intelligent discussion about the film and how it might be similar or dissimilar in context to Lee's other films, great casting suggestions etc are how threads like this should go from the get go, if certain people on this board didn't have an agenda to deliberately ruin the tone, tenor and enthusiasm of any thread that announces a new film project for Washington, and make the thread an uninhabitable warzone . Jealousy and insecurity is a nasty combination Always remember the agenda at work, the next time it happens.

Spike Lee’s “High and Low”, starring Denzel Washington, and produced by A24/Apple, is of the bigger projects to have emerged this year. Daniel Richtman is now reporting that Halle Berry was offered a role as Denzel's wife in Spike Lee's remake of Kurosawa’s classic.www.worldofreel.com/blog/2024/2/11/mn8twadf5tj9gh9vtypa18uo0xn28a

Well, so far it's only World Of Reel reporting this, so I'll wait for some more credible sources to confirm. But if true....
Great casting. Always found it slightly bizarre that Halle Berry and Denzel, the preeminent male and female African-American movie stars of their era ( give or take Will Smith) never worked together. So this would be a bucket list, iconic pairing. And while Berry remains a star, she has really struggled to get top tier prestige projects, so it would be good to see her in one again.
Also would be a nice reunion with Spike and Halle, since they last worked together on Jungle Fever.

'Well, so far it's only World Of Reel reporting this, so I'll wait for some more credible sources to confirm. But if true...". They aren't reporting it dumbass - I bolded it and underlined it for you to make it simple and THAT wasn't simple enough - they gave a source - the source is reporting it....it's hard to say if you or your sock account / lover is more stupid.......can you read? Aren't you from the UK? Isn't English your native language? You are a fucking idiot........did you have a stroke? An aneurysm? Learning disability? Did the steel plate in your head slip? Syphillis? It must take you like hour and a half to watch 60 minutes you are so stupid..... JFC what's wrong with you? ......... 2 hours ago Post by pacinoyes on 2 hours agoSpike Lee’s “High and Low”, starring Denzel Washington, and produced by A24/Apple, is of the bigger projects to have emerged this year. Oh, you're back to trying to ruin the Denzel thread again. You're so predictable This is a project people are actually interested in. Just because Al Pacino is currently stuck in shite like Knox that no one cares about, doesn't mean you need to make Denzel fans suffer.
Anyway, ignoring you on this thread now ( unless your lies and disruption become too egregious), because your objective is just to start shit and ruin it for everyone. Me responding like this is giving you exactly what you want.
Like I said, never forget the agenda

Like I said, never forget the agenda What the fuck is Knox? It's actually called Knox Goes Away. Michael Keaton directed it and is the lead. Was in festivals last year but reviews were pretty poor ( 46% Rotten Tomatoes, 53 Metacritic), so it's being dumped in cinemas next month with minimal promotion.

Roger Friedman confirms that Halle Berry is circling High And Low. I'd be fully convinced usually, if he didn't misreport Denzel being on the new Ed Zwick project yesterday, before later changing it to Morgan Freeman. But I'll have to assume he's got it right this time, in which case, great news ( still want a confirmation from Variety/Hollywood Reporter/Deadline, something like that).

Interesting Collider article discussing why they believe Spike and Denzel are the perfect fit to do this movie.

I mentioned it in the Denzel thread, but I hope it's still not too late for Spike to cast Paul Giamatti in this. It's his dream to work with Denzel, so give the man his dream Spike!!!
Also, Giamatti is a Kurosawa nerd and says Rashomon is the only movie that made him cry. He'd be such a great addition for this.

I don't know about Giamatti in this one, but now I'm wondering what his Iago would be like against Denzel's Othello.

I’m a little surprised Spike hasn’t worked with him before. We know he loves his New York actors and Giamatti has been in the New York scene for a while now and lives in Brooklyn. That would be cool to see Washington and Giamatti work together one day. I think he also gave him a shout out in his recent Marc Maron podcast interview.

Matthew Libatique ( Black Swan, The Whale, A Star Is Born, Requiem For A Dream) is going to be the cinematographer for this Makes sense given how many times he's worked with Spike. Although I personally feel that their collaboration hasn't been the most fruitful out there, especially in Chi-Raq which, for all its colorful language and audacious choices, looked flatter than it should have. But hey, Libatique has just showcased the best work of his career in Maestro so I hope some of that spirit will be seen here. And I really hope they shoot it on film, Libatique is better that way. But of course it's all up to Spike anyway. Much to my chagrin, he seems to have moved on from the amazing visual sensibilities of his 80s-90s period.

I thought Libatique's photography on Inside Man was fantastic ( and that seems to be the closest in genre to High & Low, so I can see the logic in bringing him back for this) . Just enough grit to feel reminiscent of a 1970's crime thriller, without coming off like a straight up knock-off or pastiche of that era of cinematography. It still felt like modern New York movie. He's a versatile DP....I think he can adjust to whatever Lee is looking for in this project. If he's looking for something not too far away from Inside Man, I'd call that a big win for viewers.

Yeah, some of that Inside Man visual spirit would be just fine. Just not Chi-Raq. And certainly not She Hate Me which was ugly as sin

I’ll never begrudge him of wanting to fulfill his dream of being a director, but one of the biggest what ifs is Ernest Dickerson deciding to stay as a DP for his career and him and Spike being full time collaborators for their entire runs. An all-time great combo imo, because Ernest’s work in Spikes early run is phenomenal.
