Getting projects off the ground takes time. I think this movie PTA is shooting now was in the works with Leo as far back as 2019 or so, as well as another Inarritu film that hasn't been made yet. Denzel could still very well work with Cuaron/PTA/etc. in 2025/2026/2027. Exactly! Things take time. It’s weird that a Denzel project gets announced and it’s not PTA or Cuaron is a gotchya moment. “See I told you he was full of shit…I KNOW Denzel, I saw him in Checkmates in 1988”. *Sigh Denzel has said publicly that he’s talked to them and PTA has admitted that Denzel and him had talked about working together at his house. Shit takes time..Jesus

God bless him. God bless him, let’s focus less on that and more of how we can get Pacino’s King Lear passion project off the ground that’s been in development for 20 years. Pacino better hurry up or Denzel might take that shit too. It’s obvious he’s making moves out here right now. Just sayin’

Here we go again, fighting over Denzel and Spike. A weekly occurrence on this board.

Yeah, well at least it's in a thread about Denzel & Spike ( and Lee doesn't really come up that much here, compared to many directors and actors/actresses).
It's not like anyone is trying to fellate Al Pacino and remind us why the 1970's male GOAT contender actors are so much better than any other actors in random threads , which frankly is also a weekly occurrence. Actually, closer to a daily occurrence.

This is what the Internet is saying.......good stuff...... Zed Runner 2 hours ago Kurosawa was a master who filmed some of the best movies ever made. Spike Lee remaking Kurosawa is like Uwe Boll remaking Kubrick. jafinbham 3 hours ago it's all so tiresome The Ghost of Joe's Intern 3 hours ago We've been hoodwinked, that's right, bamboozled. Nosmo King 3 hours ago I still need to watch the Kurosawa original so I can skip this.

I understand you have to commit to the "bit", but quoting rando internet chuds has never been your thing. I'd at least expect you to go to one of your usual go to "professional" sources like World Of Reel to seek validation. Oh, but World Of Reel actually praised this High And Low remake as being a good idea for Lee and Washington, so I guess that's not a viable option. While writing this post, I just realised, you took some of those negative comments from the World Of Reel comments section, but refused to post Jordan Ruimy's actual article about the project because he was being positive about it. You really do take the art of hating to new levels. It's actually quite impressive.

Shit, filming starts in March. So this is gonna be out next year. Didn't realise they were making it so soon. Again, A24 suggests they are going the prestige route with this, so another potential Oscar nomination for Denzel maybe?

I'm more curious about who the rest of the cast will be. There's a fair amount of roles in the original, and Lee usually tends to attract strong cast. Should be getting a lot of announcements in the next few weeks.

How do you even remake the first hour of this as effectively without literally just doing the exact same thing Kurosawa done?

Spike's Oldboy is better than Park Chan-wook's (I love The Handmaiden and The Little Drummer Girl, but Oldboy and Stoker are garbage). This could be quite good, Inside Man-ish. Stoker was kino tbh, one of Park's best

Reading this thread now I think this will be the greatest film of all-time and that Chan Wook-Park's Oldboy fucking sucks How does everyone feel this will compare with Denzel's other masterpiece remakes like The Manchurian Candidate, Man on Fire, The Magnificent 7, The Preacher's Wife? .............. all films which 'Zel not only GOT Oscar nominations for, but that he actually WON Oscars for.......and all films that were not only nominated for Best Picture and actually won Best Picture.......and regularly show up on the Greatest Films of All Time Lists?

Dude, why the fuck do you feel the need, the compulsion to do this everytime Denzel comes up Fair enough, he's not your GOAT. But he legitimately is to some others. It's just fucking insane ( like your World Of Reel stunt was cray-cray!) . You celebrate Al Pacino ( and some of the other 70's greats) everytime you get the chance, and people just mostly let you get on with it because it's mostly harmless. But you seem so threatened when anyone gives equal or similar treatment and praise to Washington. And want to pour water over it, instead of letting people celebrate what they like, just like you get to celebrate your GOATs without always being put on the defensive. And that's why these stupid wars keep happening. And it has encouraged others.

Your lack of shame is a superpower Like I said, anyone else would be hiding in shame for at least a few days after being exposed for that World Of Reel stunt, but you just roll back a few hours later like nothing happened .

You tend to use World Of Reel as your go too source for external commentary when you want validation for your opinions here. But it's always Jordan Ruimy's articles you post here for that, not his comments section. It changed this one time, because Ruimy didn't validate your opinion in his article. You ignored the actual article for the comments section, because it fit your I'm gonna hate on this movie no matter what narrative.Like I said, I'm stunned by your lack of shame or embarrassment, but I guess that's what makes you who you are.

Okay, so if are assuming Washington is playing the Mifune character, then who do we think would be good casting for the Nakadai/Yamazaki roles, are those are just as critical to the piece?

I feel like there's not much point speculating or "wish casting", because if this film is shooting next month, those roles have almost certainly been cast already. They are just waiting to make the announcements. I would love to see Edward Norton back with Lee though. Also, this guy:

I'd speculate, but you never know if Spike is going for big names or not. Or if he's gender-bending a character. Bradley Cooper could be as likely as a Nicole Beharie.
