Now it has 74 on RT after only 23 reviews and 77 on Metacritic after only 13 reviews.
It's pretty clear that this is not a passionately supported and universally critically acclaimed darling like Carol, Call Me By Your Name, and Portrait of A Lady On Fire.
This one won't definitely get nominations in Picture and Screenplay, and Ronan won't definitely get nominated in Supporting. MAYBE only Winslet may happen in Best Actress, but it's gonna be really hard for her to get in, and only if the competition is pretty weak this year.
I still wouldn't count out Winslet and Ronan... Remember that the reviews for Albert Nobbs were decidedly mixed, but Close and McTeer still managed nominations (I don't think either of them were in 5th place either in retrospect).
Yes, I don't think we should necessarily count it out on the acting front. Picture and Director is looking like a no-go but the ladies could get in. I think it's between Kirby and Winslet for the British block vote, and both films have gotten underwhelming reviews, so it's not like Pieces of a Woman is that comfortably ahead, but the Venice win certainly helped.
