Well... I can predict half of the people's here favorite film for next year. This maybe would have been true on IMDb, but people who love films like Carol and Call Me by Your Name (obviously wildly different apart from the LGBTQ subject matter) are in the minority on this forum. Let me know when David Lynch, Christopher Nolan, Paul Thomas Anderson, the Coens, or Denis Villeneuve announce their next projects.

Interesting, since Winslet was almost in The Favourite. I can't find the quote but Lanthimos on Winslet said something like "It became clear pretty quickly that it wasn't going to work" sort of hinting that it wasn't just scheduling as they said. "Kate and I were in discussions for a while, and I think that got out, but early on it became apparent that it wouldn't work with her dates and her other commitments." You tried it.

This is really big. Also someone at AW mentioned that the screenplay is great, so I hope that's true. Mmm, Close vs. Ronan for the Oscar. Sight unseen, I think Close would win, but I could see Ronan winning too since Ron Howard doesn't really inspire a lot of confidence for me now. I'd have to root for Glenn of course, but it would be difficult not to want to cheer for Ronan assuming that it's a worthy performance.

Oh honeys, do we need any more lesbian romances? Wasn't it all said with Carol? I already have some gloves and some cute 50s retro styled suits and bags...
Winslet was superb in Wonder Wheel... in others times this could have been an Oscar winning performance, her Blue Jasmine, but that boat has sailed, as has this one:
Didn't Chloë Sevigny just do a movie called Lezzie?... and then there's Kristen Stewart... and Ellen Page... and rumours that Jodie is making a big comeback this year.
Ask yourself, do we really need to see Saoirse Ronan being eaten out on screen? I'm not expecting an answer to that... so don't flood me with yeses.
Anyway, can't hang around... I have an important audition for a movie called Clam Slam, about an all female prison.

It's a marvelous script which also has been floating around previously with the titles like "Slam Her In The Slammer", "Incidents in Cell Block 69" and "Time Getting Off......... For Bad Behavior". Many thought it was too similar to "Running With Scissoring" but that film, even from its title was ridiculous to me not to mention physically impossible.

Oh honey, have you thought of a career writing movies? These all sound like next year's Oscar winners... I've already turned down Little Wimmin about the Sisterhood, and No Time to Dyke, which is a hard action female spy on spy movie... allegedly Angelina is considering it, if her co star Rosie O'Donnell drops out... and my agent offered me The Woman in the Window but it means travelling all the way to Amsterdam.
Ideally a franchise would be nice... but my French is only elementary (Le temps c'est de l'argent... C'est ne pas inclus dans la service... etc). I'd love to work with Sion Sono!

Winslet's debut film was Heavenly Creatures - she has no problem playing lesbian. Maybe she just didn't jive with Lanthimos' eccentricities? This is why Bonham Carter dropped out of Breaking the Waves - Von Trier really freaked her out. ooh, what eccentricities? I know nothing about this, just how much I loved that film.

I kind of assumed that since his films are so dark/off-kilter that he may be too, but by all accounts he's a very lovely man. My bad on that one.

Meh, so we're going to see an uninteresting Carol/Portrait rip-off.
I think this one will be a dud award season wise.

Hmmmmmmm.......... Some observations: This doesn't look very hot............ Kidding, kidding. Winslet's role looks more multi-dimensional and lead-ish - she may get the privilege of being in the lead category where she can look forward to losing the Oscar to multi-talented thespian Queen (of Soul) Jennifer Hudson (because that IS happening in 2020 people). Unlike Portrait .........- a misunderstood movie imo that cleverly equated the lesbian angle to things sensuous vs. sensual (the movie is the former not the latter) - I'm not quite sure I see where this story needs to be a lesbian story. If you make the story about a male and a female or two men it would still have the same (weak?) set-up - (coming out of their shell or whatever like an Ammonite etc). I'm not sure that's not trite and I was looking for a hook that I don't really see here. But..........it's just a trailer.......
