I’ve listened to some selections of Zim’s score...
Its literally the same exact music in most cases, with most of the differences being slight increases or decreases in pitch and tempo. I mean, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it (I’m glad Zim didn’t go “experimental” by having some internal Pharrell monologue), but still... same exact thing.

Starts at dusk, turns to night around halfway through.

Judging by a lot of the reactions, I feel like the filmmakers may have painted themselves into a corner by choosing to update the animation with supposedly photorealistic imagery. Many people are complaining that in doing so, the filmmakers have divested the characters of all human expression, but I think Bilge Ebiri makes a point worth noting in his review that perhaps that's sort of the idea (as misguided as it may seem) since the goal seems to be to present the characters with zoological authenticity and to not anthropomorphize them too much... but of course when you have the animals talking and singing, it really does create this weird disconnect that seems to have resulted from the filmmakers' vision at the outset.
It becomes a question of how to update the visual presentation of these characters without duplicating the kind of cartoonified animation from the original that allows them to be more expressive and human-like. The difficulty of finding a solution to remaking a film like this probably just reflects back on the misguided nature of the project on the whole, but it makes me wonder if the film had tossed out all the songs would that make it more palatable? (Though hardcore fans of the original would probably riot) The act of singing requires more prolonged and extreme facial expressions, so I can understand how viewers would feel something is "off" about how it's handled here. The issue might still be there when the characters speak, but perhaps not to the same degree. It also makes me wonder if the film could have been done in a similar way to the recent Planet of the Apes films, which often used subtitles instead of spoken words. I can't imagine audiences going for that though.

57% on RT. Shocking to be honest. Why is it that shocking? By all accounts, its just a shot for shot remake that adds nothing new (other than the tech aspect of it). I think critics are wising up to what Disney is doing here. And Disney has been phoning it in with all these remakes recently. All the remakes have been uninspiring / lifeless cash grabs. It'll still make a billy with ease though but I'll stick with the Jonathan Taylor Thomas version thank you very much.

Because i didn't expect this backlash from critics of a remake of my favorite animated of all time. I know it does look a shot by shot remake of the original but 57% is indeed shocking to me.

I never had faith in this one so I'm not that surprised by the reaction. The Hakuna Matata clip lacked any kind of charm or soul.
Honestly I think the Aladdin remake is probably better than this.

Maybe this flop would put a stop to this lazy remake nonsense. That's one positive, at very least.
