I know it's based solely on name recognition, but it's so weird seeing a Lion King poster where Pumbaa is credited second.

What is the point of making a "live-action" (read animated) remake with realistic animals that won't have the expressiveness of the originals?

Looks just as awful and rehashed as the teaser.

Pumba looks like something from "Razorback".

Kinda feels uninspired but the CGI work is splendid.

Here’s another thing I was worried about with the photo-realism, and it seems like it’ll come to pass. In the original, all the animal designs are distinct and instantly recognizable.
Here, animals of the same species (the lions and hyenas in particular) all look the damn same. At least The Jungle Book made the wolves distinct. Maybe that’ll change in the film, but how am I supposed to differentiate who they are?

In action scenes, they'll just constantly yell each others' names to avoid confusion. Isn't that right, Ryan?!

Quite possibly the most cynical Hollywood production ever. This did nothing except make me want to watch the original and wish this cash grab never existed.

As someone who actually enjoyed Jon Favreau’s take on The Jungle Book....meh. I think the complete lack of facial expressions is what’s really going to kill the movie. Sure, the visuals look realistic but that’s not gonna matter when there’s no sense of artistic style.

The initial reactions are overwhelmingly positive.

The reactions are so befuddling. People are saying “this has the best visual effects of all-time” and then in the same tweet say something like “oh but the lions can’t emote.” Yeah, if the lions can’t emote (as we saw pretty clear in the trailer) then that’s a pretty obvious shortcoming of the visual effects work. Yes, these effects are definitely groundbreaking, and I thought the work on The Jungle Book was an improvement over what was done in the Planet of the Apes films and I like where this work is headed, but it’s still pretty clear that there are restrictions to the technology that have to be overcome to the point that this overwhelming praise already feels unwarranted. Still not convinced that this film is even remotely necessary, but, glad to know it’s guaranteed $2bil.+ now I guess.

This clip alone is a perfect example of this emotionless thing:
Yeah, technically the animation is detailed and all that but at the end of the day it's just a bunch of weightless cartoons (no matter how well drawn) of animals who just open their mouths. Simba sounds all relaxed and happy but looks as if he's in agony. Because his mouth is always looking downwards, just like a real lion's would. It just looks stupid, like a CGI ventriloquist show.

Uh... maybe we... need to see the full thing in... context to...? But yeah, seeing *that* image matched to *that* sound was really weird. This looks like the most expensive tech demo ever made.

Holy shit that face animation looks horrible. Doesn’t match up with the vibe of the song at all.

As of right now it’s 67% on Rotten tomatoes (26 positive, 13 negative) with an average rating of 6.72/10.
