Holy Shit! The Undoing finale records the highest ratings for HBO since the finale of Big Little Lies Season 2 in 2019. It's HBO's biggest hit of the year. It drew 3 million viewers across all platforms, increased 42% from the previous episode and 168% from the premiere episode. It's the first HBO series in the networks history to grow week to week over the course of all it's episodes I think Nicole Kidman may have just become the most powerful female TV producer this side of Shonda Rimes. It's like she's unlocked some secret sauce to creating zeitgiest television

Didn't think I'd give this one a go, but my city has reverted to a non-essential lockdown so I'm burning through new content.
Some thoughts after episode 2: Nicole Kidman's hair and clothing is SO.FUCKING.DISTRACTING. Why has she been so cursed lately with unflattering/ill-fitting manes?? I know it's difficult to properly frame a Madame Tussaud-worthy mug, but this ginger poodle business was just a disastrous styling choice. Actingwise she's putting in a good effort here but it's certainly no comparison to her BLL work.
Lily Rabe's character is up to no good, and she plays this secrecy well. Reminds me of a bitchier Laura Linney.
The Italian actress who plays Elena is mesmerizing. Like..."God" was in a splendid mood when s/he made her. It's hard to even determine whether her acting is any good because she brings such a heart-stopping presence.
The actual show plays out pretty by-the-numbers, and the way it's shot reminds me of an HBO-fied "Gossip Girl", but I will continue on with it just because the luridness of the storyline is hard to resist. Frankly, the material feels beneath the collective caliber of the cast, but normally that's preferable to the reverse.

Ugh....like, I said, you've been doing this online bullying shit of this woman for kicks for years, it ain't cool, and it's one of the reasons I see you as a complete joke. Positivity is always more welcome than negativity. Hatred for hatred's sake ain't cool, "honey". I usually ignore your bullshit anyway. Think I'll just go back to that Oh honey, go tell it to the judge and go f uck yourself! pacinoyes approved post La Legend .......reminded me of that time that Tallulah Bankhead merely raised her eyebrow in your general direction and you then drunkenly charged at her with a broken wine glass AND very sharp tweezers.

YEAR IN REVIEW
10 Best Drama Series of 2020

TVLine’s Year in Review is officially underway, and we’re starting with the best dramas of 2020. Which series snagged our No. 1 spot? Scroll through the gallery below — which includes The Queen’s Gambit, Lovecraft Country, The Mandalorian and more — to find out.
10. THE UNDOING
High-gloss thrillers don’t get any more glossy and thrilling than HBO’s six-episode limited series about a wealthy, super-entitled family whose seemingly quintessential existence detours into dumpster-fire territory. Hauntingly directed by Susanne Bier, tightly paced by David E. Kelley and boasting sensational performances from Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant, The Undoing managed to pull off the rare whodunit trifecta: It was emotionally resonant, supremely addictive and, most importantly, fun.

Man, what a pile of overcooked, overwrought, downright TRASHY nonsense and yes I burned through it in a few days. Kidman's poodle wig and Glasgow smile really were not suited for all those close-ups, and despite being her reliably watchable self here, it was Grant who ultimately came through as the cast's trump card. Dumezweni was a late-coming surprise as well. Implausibilities and illogical character choices reigned supreme in the writing (and call me finicky but neither one of the main kids looked even remotely like their respective parents and this was enough to take me out of the story more than once), but Bier did a solid job camouflaging giant holes and keeping the story moving at a good clip.

Oh honey, thank you! I was wondering if I wasn't loved anymore...
To accuse me of bullying Kidman is absurd! Especially when I singlehandedly kept her career alive by talking about her when she was making box office flop after flop after flop... Without my show and sharp, witty critiques she would have been forgotten (Who apart from me remembers how awful The Invasion was... Disgrace of Monaco, etc?)... besides I may have posted the links but I didn't write all those mean comments (agreeing with them and laughing out loud is entirely different).
No doubt that Poopscoop person will also blame me for Newsweek's open letter to Nicole Kidman's fillers

Chloe Fineman is very talented . Her Kidman impersonations from Big Little Lies are probably what got her the SNL job in the first place. Still, as much as Fineman makes a living mocking Kidman, she's also a huge fan. She said on her Instagram thst she thought The Undoing was probably the best performance she thought Kidman had ever given. The Big Little Lies impression, which is even funnier: http://instagr.am/p/BXdrVSUjeZV

Finally caught up on this. Like it for the most part. The major players delivered strong performances and the series overall was good soapy stuff. Kidman’s turn on the stand was really great. Her, Grant, and Sutherland were all very good but special shout out to Noma Dumezweni.

LA Times article, more or less saying Kidman is now the Queen of Prestige TV and giving her much of the credit for the wave of female led TV projects by A-list movie star talent that followed in the wake of Big Little Lies, including projects from Amy Adams and Cate Blanchett.

Strong showing at the Golden Globes for The Undoing. Nominated for:
Best Limited Series Best Actor In A Limited Series- Hugh Grant Best Actress In A Limited Series- Nicole Kidman Best Supporting Actor In A Limited Series- Donald Sutherland
The Undoing got the most nominations in Limited Series. I'm guessing Best Actress In A Limited series is between Kidman and Anya Taylor Joy for The Queens Gambit, whose show was also nominated. Can't see Cate Blanchett in this race for Mrs America, as she was the sole nominee for her show. I think Taylor-Joy will take it, but Kidman winning wouldn't be a shock, considering the support her show has here. I think Shira Haas for Unorthodox is the potential spoiler.
I can see Grant and perhaps Sutherland winning.

I'm very late to the party. Shame on me for putting off streaming this mini series for so long. I binged it in a few days and I thought it was very entertaining thru out especially the finale. Loved the part where Kidman took the stand (you could cut the tension with a knife ) and the car chase scene was intense as well. Outstanding acting from everyone in this especially Kidman & Grant. They both brought their A games in this. Very happy that it got a lot of viewership too.
7.5/10
