Apparently CHAZELLE never went backstage to meet with the dishonest media. Can't say I blame him!

Sure. Not on that level and considering the almost infinite possibilities of half of the American population being divisive about it. I mean the fact that it lost an hour ago might tell you something Half the population? Where did you get that stat? Did you really miss the part where I said POSSIBILITIES ? Or are you really that fucking stupid? Yeah I'm going with the latter

Can someone explain to me what I missed about the best picture announcement? Dunaway announced the wrong BP winner (LLL) after Beatty gave the envelope to her when he saw Stone's name on it.

I just read that the LLL people were already onstage and had been giving speeches when it was announced that Moonlight actually won... Someone gave the best actress envelope to best picture presenters? Please tell me conspiracy theorists have been going wild. It's just too crazy to believe.

I literally went into my five hour lab session after Emma Stone's win, assuming La La Land had won... what the hell happened while I was away?! *laughs nervously*

We live in a world where Suicide Squad is an Oscar winner. Learn to believe.

In 10 years, most of us would have said Moonlight should have won, but now all of us will say LLL should've won. It's funny how we work HELL OR HIGH WATER SHOULD HAVE WON, DAMMIT. Arrival

Some scattered thoughts:
-Stayed off of this board last night so reading all of the reactions this morning is golden.
-So happy for the Affleck win. So deserved, an understated performance like his almost never wins over a big flashy one.
-Glad to see La La Land lose the sound/editing/costume categories to far more deserving winners. I liked La La Land a lot but it didn't deserve half of it's nominations.
-Hall or High Water deserved not to be shut out
-Arrival deserved so much more
-I would have been fine with La La winning and I'm fine with Moonlight winning. Neither are my personal wins but are both in my top 5.
-Jimmy Kimmel was a very good host outside of the bus tourist fiasco. I'd be happy for him to host again.

For the life of me, I'll never understand the hate La La Land was receiving leading up the show.
It's about love, dreamers, and artists. It's so charming and innocent. It was a passion project by the youngest directing winner of all-time. It was his 2nd film after breaking out with Whiplash through Sundance. It was a great story in its own right. Somehow "the white man saved jazz" and the movie became racist.
This just confirms that it's NEVER good to be the early front-runner. People will look to tear it down and look for an alternative. (The Social Network, Boyhood, La La Land). It's probably better in the long run, but still.

What I don't get about the whole "white man saves jazz" hoopla is that... the film isn't trying to say that at all. I don't feel that that's the conclusion we're supposed to arrive at by the end of it. Seb is explicitly called out for being too much of a purist (to put it kindly) to understand what jazz is truly about, and that's why he can never save it the way he thinks he will. That's the whole point of Legend's only substantial scene: that Seb's inflexibility only contributes to render jazz more and more obscure, and it also makes him a pain in the ass to live with. The film doesn't idealize his character the way I think many feel it does.
