Post red carpet updates and show related discussions here. It will be easier to see everyone's comments in one place instead of searching the board. Here's a list of the order. I always hate when they do Director before Lead Actor and Actress.

Thanks for posting this. I kind of like that order. I think Production Design could be an interesting one, and I'm glad it's not at the beginning. Costume Design and Makeup could also prove interesting, but not make-it- or break-it for La La Land, so early is good for those ones. I'm also nervous about my Original Screenplay prediction and I like waiting those big ones out. Otherwise I might get too discouraged too early on.

I'm not sure what to make of this. I mean, why are they announcing Costumes and Sound Editing so early ? Since they are the two most crucial categories for estimating La La Land's chances, this means this could kill the suspense early, one way or the other. If it wins both then it's obviously at least tying the record, and if it loses both then in that case it loses all hope of doing it.
So my guess right now is that it will win one and lose the other, so that the suspense remains complete and everything will depend on how Screenplay goes.
Of course, this is assuming they decided on the order with the knowledge of the results, which I'm not even sure is the case. Maybe someone knows ?

Emma Stone! Emma Stone! Emma Stone! *fingers crossed* Why do they have actress last though? Could be an upset? Hope not. Anyway, excited 👍

Since Emma Stone is seen as the soul of La La Land and all this makes sense they would finish with that. Or it could also mean a last minute upset, when no one is expecting it.

They can call off the rest of the red carpet, Ruth Negga has already won.

...interviewed by Ryan Seacrest, and he asked her something like: "I loved your speech at the Golden Globes when you won. You were so shocked & surprised. Will you be just as shocked once you win tonight?" Her response was something like: "Oh, yes! Yes yes! I'll be even more shocked." LOVE her attitude, she's definitely in it to win it.

Yeah, not a fan of director coming early either. I don't think it's positioning is abnormal. Generally at least one of the lead acting awards is between director and BP.

I think it's common for director to be announced just before the lead categories.
And why not a fan ? It's better this way, we get some suspense before the BP result. It would be boring to finish with the predictable BD/BP categories.

Ginnifer Goodwin looks absolutely miserable, and the announcers thought it was because she was jealous that Ruth Negga was rocking the same color dress, not realizing that she just lost a close friend and co-star.

It would be boring to finish with the predictable BD/BP categories. Well, this year, sure. But when BP isn't locked, you would learn who'll win way back when BD is announced (most of the time).
