The poster looks great.
So far I've seen two early reactions, and they both praised the film profusely. I do think this could be a late game changer since there's a few contenders that aren't locked yet. I also think that Hawkins or Robbie could get bumped out still. I'm still leaning towards Hawkins because Robbie really wants it, and it makes more sense to me for her to get a "welcome to the club" nomination for a film that keeps doing well over Hawkins receiving her second nomination for a film that has underperformed since after Venice.

Links? If you got 'em, post 'em. Hawkins is starting to sink for me, primarily because I feel The Shape of Water is more of a directorial showcase and they'll recognize it in that respect, whereas I don't think Hawkins needs to necessarily get in for the film itself to do well. Plus Fox Searchlight has McDormand as their lead workhorse. I do think Krieps could do some late-in-the-game damage if her performance is strong.

It looks good to me but I don't really like the comparisons to films of the past, I've seen Rebecca etc., I would like something that is coming out of his life own mind based on his own life - he's 47 now, it's not enough for America's best or 2nd best working director to just "recreate" at this point. After TWBB I argued that for all his great work he hadn't yet made his masterpiece......but now, 10 years down the line I don't if it sounds like he's going to top it.
Still, I will be there for this and hope that the comparisons are more reflective of the audience being lazy than the film itself.

I would argue There Will Be Blood is his greatest work (as I consider it the greatest film ever made), but The Master is the one most indicative of PTA's style and potential. Everything up until that point, you could see the influences of other directors (Scorsese, Altman, Tati, Kubrick, Huston), but The Master feels remarkably organic and so distinct in its energy and style that I'd argue it's the first time one can call a film "Andersonian."

I've been seeing a lot of positive reactions about this especially about Lesley Manville today and yesterday, so I think she's in given it's a weak category plus people are going to watch for DDL's performance.
While I've heard Krieps is pretty great too, it seems from the reactions so far that they're not entirely sure she can crack into a tougher Best Actress category. I still have a feeling she could get in, but I'll wait to see what The Shape of Water does in the next couple of weeks. If NBR totally snubs The Shape of Water like the Gothams and the ISAs, I would be more willing to drop Hawkins.

The Master is incredible but for me his best film is definitely Magnolia and it’s not even close.

As I said on the trailer thread, PTA fans are going to love this movie. I'm not sure if the Academy will be into it besides some tech and acting noms, but it doesn't matter, the movie totally rocks.
