Cyndi Lauper 's voice is one of the best female voices ever. Way better than Celine Dion 's for instance. Compare their version of I drove all night. I Drove All Night Lauper

Closer > Unknown Pleasures White Light/White Heat >>> Self Titled Pornography blows hard Radiohead is alternative music for people who don't listen to alternative music. (Kid A is mostly great) Lyrics are usually irrelevant (lyrical content, not vocal melodies or delivery) Dad rock is the worst Neutral Milk Hotel is a joke Instrumental hip hop is the best kind of hip hop (and on that note, Endtroducing still reigns supreme) m b v is one of the best albums of this decade

German Thrash is far better than American Thrash.
OK Computer is Radiohead's only good album.
Opeth can not compose a coherent song. Most of their tracks feel like shorter songs randomly stitched together.
"Be" by Pain Of Salvation is by far the best Rock album of the 21st century.
Metal is by far the most complex and varied music genre right now.

Lyrics are usually irrelevant (lyrical content, not vocal melodies or delivery) I agree with this. When I listen to something I rarely pay attention to the lyrics. The musical context and the atmosphere of the song is what I pay attention to.

"Father Electricity" by The Voidz is the best song of this decade. Nirvana is as "meh" as they come. Kendrick Lamar is nothing special. Frank Ocean's music is really, really bad. Bruce Springsteen's "New York City Serenade" is by far his best and is one of the most overlooked and underappreciated songs ever. Radiohead is mostly bland. "Dead As Dreams" is the best black metal album (although there's a shit ton I haven't listened to, to be fair). Depressing/morbid lyrics matched up with upbeat music is the best when done right.

Also, Dead As Dreams is a very interesting Black Metal album, definitely among the best of it's genre to come from the US. But, I can't say it's among my favorites, although I do like it quite a bit. I'm a big Black Metal fan, so, if you like I could give you some recommendations for some other albums to check out from the genre.

Pornography blows hard Radiohead is alternative music for people who don't listen to alternative music. (Kid A is mostly great) Lyrics are usually irrelevant (lyrical content, not vocal melodies or delivery) Neutral Milk Hotel is a joke -Hey! Don't insult my porno now. JK... i don't watch porno. -Oh god. I feel like I'm the only one here who sees Radioblah for what they are. But I'm glad pretty much everyone agrees with me on this thread. You go over to that album thread and it's a Radiohead ass-kissing contest. I don't get the mass appeal for them, at all. If I want some harsh soundscapes and background compositions, I'll go listen to Mogwai - they do it much better, and blows my mind far more - where Radiohead just their lazy instrumentals always makes me wonder wtf makes them liked by even the most common of commoners. And while I know people like to bash emo - there's actually nothing wrong with emo. Radiohead doesn't even do emo right without Yorke whining to some airy ghost sounds protuding from his mouth, and I can't avoid his crybaby voice. -Wouldn't agree with you so definitively - as I like singer/songwriters a lot, and do think lyrics matter. But they take a backseat to the actual music, of course. -DGDGSGDGZGDSGS WHAT??!?!?!? -50 Your music patrician points. Just kidding. I'm fine with you on merely one opinion, but i love Neutral Milk Hotel and think their music reaches severe artistic highs. Most people who don't like them just can't grind them in their stomachs, don't usually hear them actually bashing their music. To each his own, of course.

Yeah, I'm definitely open to any recommendations. Always love checking out new music. These 5 Black Metal albums are among my favorite albums of all time and definitely worth a listen: "Stronghold" by Summoning "Κατά Τον Δαίμονα Εαυτού" by Rotting Christ "The Haunting" by Sear Bliss "Kivenkantaja" by Moonsorrow "The Voice Of Steel" by Nokturnal Mortum

Katy Perry went down on Taylor Swift.
Lana Del Rey is really a man named Leonard Dilroy from the Bronx.
Nicki Minaj is part of the Illuminati and sells mail order light fixtures on the side.
Whitney was a 'shower person'.
Miley Cyrus has slept with all the Ooopah Loompahs.

I swear I've tried countless times and I know it's something I should love on paper but except for a song or two I just don't get the appeal of ITAOTS at all, not even ironically.

Thanks! Another one: "Mind Playing Tricks On Me" by the Geto Boys is the best rap song ever.

Uh oh, here it goes :
The Stones in 68-72 created the best rock of their peers and all-time Led Zeppelin Blows Goats American Punk Rock in the 70s was way cooler, and more appealing than its UK counterparts Nirvana has 1 great album (Nevermind) and it hangs over their legacy in a bad way
REM were maybe, at best the 3rd or 4th best American band of their era Nothing REM did after Green is good
Jeff Beck has done more great work on the guitar, across more genres than anyone else
Sometimes the Smiths would be better if Morrissey would just shut up
With the exception of the Clash (at times) and a few others, fusing politics with Rock almost never works
Paul McCartney's (as opposed to Lennon) songwriting starts to be wussyish Grandma stuff on Revolver and every album after that
Jay Z's The Takeover and Nas Ether are the greatest hip hop songs, the fact that one is an answer to the other is both essential to it and utterly meaningless as to why that is

Opeth can not compose a coherent song. Most of their tracks feel like shorter songs randomly stitched together. Meh. They have lots of ballads aswell which do not feel randomly stitched together at all (not that I think they are the best at ballads). I also feel like the stuff on Blackwater Park works very well because I like the calm transitions though I see what you mean. I find that their later stuff often feels like Genesis but I'd always rather listen to Genesis themselves.

Good to hear I'm not the only one who thinks so highly of it. I haven't really thought about if I'd call it the greatest rap song but I think if I'd have to call one song that it'd most likely be this.

Arcade Fire is mostly meh aside from a few good songs (Sprawl II and Rebellion (Lies) as though they might be a bit cringy, they are for once energetic and don't lack conviction - thus they are the only thing I remember from the albums).
None of Nirvana's albums is particularly great. In Utero is the better album than Nevermind though.
Albums are more than the sum of their parts. Non-concept albums are mostly boring if the songs aren't energetic.
Phil Collins was one of the best drummers of all time in his heyday (around 1975), much, much better than many of the names that are usually thrown around. As a singer he serverely lacks range though (not to say I don't like his solo stuff, I think something like No Jacket Required is a lot of fun, the other albums are incredibly inconsistent though, safe for a Hot Night in Paris ofc which is really cool).
Brian Eno is the shit. Coldplay isn't.
Hergest Ridge is about as good as Tubular Bells.
The best American Alums are primarily Jazz. In comparison to Europe they suck so bad at Rock though they do have Kayo Dot, Tool and those guys.
Bowie is great but Ziggy Stardust is nothing special.
There's so much popular indie stuff I don't care about and tons of classic bands which I think are ok but nothing that special but it's too much to sum all of them up.

I think Opeth can compose some very interesting riffs and melodies and it's a shame that most of their heavier tracks just aren't that well put together for me. In most of their albums I enjoy some individual moments in each track very much but not the track itself, as a whole. With that said I do consider their more acoustic stuff as their strongest, because most of them are devoid of awkward transitions. I do think songs like To Bid You Farewell and Windowpane are great. I'm also not a fan of their more recent stuff. It just feels bland and uninspired to me.

pacinoyes rant, part II
Heavy metal, in its purest form was never done better before or after the Lemmy/Fast Eddie/Phil Taylor line up of Motorhead. They invented it and it is not anything like Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest play and despite what they may think, Metallica either.
T. Rex's Electric Warrior and The Slider are better listens cut for cut than any Bowie record.
More good music came out of UK Britpop than US grunge.
The Who were never better than on their brilliant early singles (the stuff on Meaty, Beaty, Big and Bouncy)
Joy Division, as great as they usually are (and both albums are great), are also sometimes unintentionally funny and sometimes sound like a Doors wannabe.

I don't know if it's unpopular or what, but I really hate it when songs don't end, but just fade out instead of giving the song an actual climax.
Yeah, that's all I got. Not really well versed in music.

Nicki Minaj is part of the Illuminati Since when was this opinion unpopular? Oh honey, the Illuminati are unpopular because they haven't switched to LED technology, which reduces the demand from power plants and decreases greenhouse gas emissions. Everytime you switch one of their lamps on.... a dolphin dies. I'm not sure how... as I flunked physics.
