Music (song) - Magnetic Fields - I Don't Want To Get Over You (1999) - Genius level composition that one .....
Movies - The Cinema Archives Best 100 Actors List (2023) - Kind of love this list - and you should too - even when I disagree with it - which is a lot - it at least has a reasoned logic and ranking criteria to it ......lists are all BS but this list sticks to its criteria so far at least ....which is kind of awesome and somewhat less arbitrary
Comedy - Louis CK @ The Dolby (2023) - Marvelously droll stand-up comedy from one of the best - like casually bumping into an old friend on the street - that you were worried about - and happy to see him doing better than just alright....
Sports - While the rest of the world watches a bunch of overpaid genetic growth spurt freaks try to stuff a round object into a cylinder - I continue to not give af and stick with ice hockey - it's cooler (pun, yeah) and an ice skate could slice a man's throat.....bad-ass really....

Just a music obsession tbh...... Music - Local Drags 3 Full albums:
Local Drags - Shit's Looking Up (2019) - 7 / 10 Local Drags - Keep Me Glued (2021) - 7+ / 10 Local Drags - Mess of Everything (2023) - I rated it a 7.5+ / 10 before ......now it feels like it's in the 8's ...... Lanny Durbin who is basically Local Drags by himself makes a very specific, very American kind of Power Pop: about failing and about being happy anyway because things can't get much worse. Mess of Everything - a pretty great record in a so far not great year - and his best album - is about how living the life of a fnckup wears you down but he doesn't romanticize it - instead he transcends it - so his songs sound sad and impossibly hopeful at the same time. Only a fuckup would even be so foolish, right? His other records set the template for his breakthrough - but he always had this formula - it's just he edited it down, and wrote more fully realized - and personal - songs so that when you go back and hear his older stuff now - it all seems part of a piece that was building to a peak. So unassuming and simple - Durbin can be really easy to miss - it's hard to even find reviews of his work .........but with all the best Power Pop coming from the UK ( The Speedways, More Kicks) - he's looking like more like America's leading purveyor of it atm...... localdrags.bandcamp.com/

Music (song) - The Number Ones - You're So Happy I Could Cry (2018) - Classic sounding Power Pop with a great guitar solo....what a marvelous song....... "I could do without........seeing how you turned out".... Movies - Martha (1974) - Rainer Werner Fassbinder's blacker than black comic (but not funny!) exaggeration of impossible cruelty plays like the ultimate skewering of both Tragic Suffering Females in films / literature yet feels contemporary - our modern day victim culture presented as a lacerating, inverted social horror. The kind of movie you hesitate to recommend or people will think you're just straight up evil ..........or at least that you have sick tastes or a very twisted "humor". Unforgettable. TV - Stanley Cup finals ......French Open ......

The GOAT - see ya in the Wimbledon Thread in 2 weeks for #24 ammiright? Music (song) - I Don't Know How But They Found Me - Do It All Time (2018) - Best song Franz Ferdinand never wrote tbh

Song: Elvis Costello The Other Side of Summer
One of his many, many masterpieces Summer never starts for me without this song (today starts Summer btw) - a song so mean-spirited it mocks a beloved murdered Beatle - unnecessarily too ("Was it a millionaire, who said "Imagine no possessions"?) swipes at youth culture ("The dancing was desperate, the music was worse") - and ends with the most depressing one liner in a seemingly happy (it's not) song I can think of ................"Goodnight, God Bless and Kiss Goodbye to the Earth"..........

John Keats' love letters to Fanny Brawne - so pure, so ethereal, so perfect. I really am a romantic, though I don't mean to be!

TV: The Bear (season 2), The Other Two (season 3), Mrs. Davis Book: Ayoade on Top ~ by Richard Ayoade Filmmaker: Was working on a Kevin Smith montage (love a good challenge) but putting that on a short pause because I got a commission which includes various filmmakers. Music: Duran Duran's cover of Perfect Day has been playing a lot. Sam Roberts and songs from We Were Born in a Flame keep coming up on my "random" shuffle as well, and fuck me that album is twenty years old now. It's so good. Random: No longer waking up and wishing I was dead. I'm obsessed with how good a feeling that is. Also my cats, as always. I just got back from a pet first aid information night and if you ever cut a nail too short while trimming, an easy home remedy is corn starch to stop the bleeding. Plus you can give your pet CPR by blowing through their nose.

TV: Garth Marenghi's Darkplace - especially ep2 and the primal struggle twixt man and whisk. pacinoyes David Lynch's On the Air - available on Vimeo - I know there are Lynch fans all over MAR - Ep1 is essential, a classic, I haven't laughed that hard in a while..... also the hilarious perf by Marla Rubinoff, the show-within-the-show's star, should've led to a great comedy career - she hasn't really done anything else unfortunately. It predates a lot of '90s stuff that lovingly send up amateur filmmaking: Ed Wood, Living in Oblivion, Bowfinger etc... I guess Darkplace fits, as well! MUSIC: Big Dee Irwin & Little Eva - Swingin on a Star Dream Syndicate - Days of Wine and Roses album and the Smetana link Nikan just posted. BOOKS: Estonia - Alexander Theroux Miss Doll Go Home - David Markson Poe's comedies. "To diddle was his destiny." FOOD: babka, chalupas, Coppola noir

TV: Garth Marenghi's Darkplace - especially ep2 and the primal struggle twixt man and whisk. pacinoyes There are only two works of Art - in English - that can define true masculinity - in the best sense of that word (um) - just by walking because real men don't have to talk or mansplain sports to the ladies out there, ok? (um)........one is The Wild Bunch.......the other one is arguably even better ............because it's only one man doing all of the walking........but what a man he is

Video Games: Final Fantasy XVI, which I just beat two hours ago and logged 100+ hours in. I am still cogitating on my overall feelings on this one, but it absolutely justified shelling out the money for the PS5.
Music: Been on a Kirsty MacColl kick lately.
Food: It's been a year since our trip to Greece, but I'm still thinking of the grilled feta and chocolate souffle in Athens.
Television: Taskmaster is a perennial obsession/comfort show in the way others watch The Office. Aside from the new episodes of Always Sunny and Righteous Gemstones, though, haven't been watching much current stuff.
Movies: I just finished rewatching Marty, which is a perfect gem of a movie and an inspired Best Picture winner. I love that it's one of only three films to win the Palme d'Or and Best Picture. Similarly, we don't talk enough about how fucking seismic of an actor Ernest Borgnine was.

Interview - Matt Taibbi on Reason TV: How The Left Lost Its Mind (2023) - On Youtube........ Essential viewing...........scary viewing...... Music (Song) - Kevin Bowe - Not As Pretty As You Think You Are (2023) - Paul Westerberg's sorta collaborator pal attacks a female's looks and smarts.......like a sexist bastard!.......which defines a lot of great Rock and Roll.......just on the right side of a novelty song......and sticks in your head in a maddening way Film (Performance) - The odd and marvelous acting of Mia Wasikowska in Piercing (2018)

* Music (song) - Kate Clover - "No Romance" live (2023) - Queen Kate The Great follows-up her excellent debut album Bleed Your Heart Out (pacinoyes #4 (2022)) with a new song that is quintessentially Cloverrific: an original that sounds like a timeless cover. One of the few artists in American Rock and Roll right now who gets it...... * Music (song) - Mark Mulcahy - "Poison Candy Heart" (2013) - Sort of like a less hopped up - more gentle but still lacerating Ike Reilly or Tonio K. ....... * Carnal Knowledge Ruminations - Republican Congressional Sex Bomb Nancy Mace talks about attending a Prayer Breakfast (um): “When I woke up this morning at 7 — I was getting picked up at 7:45 — Patrick, my fiancé, tried to pull me by my waist over this morning in bed,” Mace recounted Wednesday with a smile “And I was like, ‘No, baby, we don’t got time for that this morning,’”

Music (song) - NOBRO - Let's Do Drugs (2023) - Better than Barbie in every way: Funnier, more fun, smarter, more Girl Boss, and at least they love something (um, er, drugs) and in a fraction of the time too: Party anthem of the year? Last several years? Love 'em and you would too - if you liked Rock and Roll I mean..........love this for its energy, humor, the air guitar, the air drums.......I also love it for how bad intentioned it is - while other bands are singing about their spirit animals or something........ Music (album) - The Hives - The Death of Randy Fitzimmons (2023) - The NOBRO of their day........but who thought they'd release one of their best on a day in 2023....... Acting - Niamh Algar - How many times is she going to give performances that are so uncompromising that I think they are "off" that almost immediately I end up changing my mind and finding them uniquely smart and myself stupid? Food / Drink - Pumpkin spice next week at Dunkin......the week after at Starbucks........why ever take it off the menu ffs?
