Not getting good enough reviews and it won't do good box office and there are other competitors that will have both.

Not getting good enough reviews and it won't do good box office and there are other competitors that will have both. Well to be honest, I also consider Cranston and Carell as the shakier candidates in their respective categories. But there is buzz that easily can translate into critic award recognition. As for Chong, she got extremely good reviews from the festival season however I admit her buzz is slowing down. But I wouldn't say they are chancelss, especially since neither of those categories are that exciting this year (unlike best actress)

I said it in September after I saw the movie in Venice: THREE BILLBOARDS is winning the whole shebang. It's unbeatable.

Also the fact that you have Peele in director but no Get Out in picture. I figure they'll wanna at least give a mention to Get Out, but I don't think it's worthy of a best picture nom. It's a very well directed movie imo... then again, the academy is not affected by my opinion, soooo that could be entirely wrong. As for Lady Bird, haven't really looked into it all that much (although the more I do, the more it interests me). I predict Gerwig will get a nom, mostly because I don't think the oscars would pass up the rare opportunity to nominate a female director. Yeah, it appears these predictions are based a lot on my opinions and intuitions, or lack thereof... which is probably why I'm shit at predictions.

Only listing as many as I believe in, from strongest to weakest imo.
Picture: Dunkirk The shape of water Three billboards outside... Darkest hour Call me by your name I, Tonya Lady Bird The Florida project The Post
Director: Nolan Del Toro McDonough Joe Wright Velleneuvue
Actress: McDormand Sally Hawkins Siaorsie Ronan Margot Robbie Annette Benning
Actor: Oldman Day Lewis Chalamet Gyllenhaal Bale*
Supporting actress: Allison Janney Laurie Metcalf Scott Thomas Bilge ...
Supporting actor: Dafoe Rockwell Mendehlson Stuhlbarg Jenkins
*it's really hard for me to choose between Gyllenhaal, Franco and Bale. Bale obviously depends a lot on industry screenings n screeners. If those conditions are met then a plum best actor performance from the veteran and lately academy favorite Bale would be hard to resist. I'm hugely rooting for a Franco nom this season while Jake is reportedly very very strong, so....
EDIT: I totally forgot Battle of the Sexes which could totally take either last two spots and Emma Stone could replace Bening.

Anybody else think Kumail Nanjiani could sneak in for Lead Actor? He'll definitely be nom'd at the Globes, and I think could win there. Big Sick will/might get Oscar nods for Screenplay & Hunter..... and I think there's already talk about lack of diversity among the nominees, plus lead actor is looking shaky...
