Honestly I totally hope Halep will win this tournament. I like her style of play much more than Ostapenkos. Also Simi is a very nice and likeable woman. Not so sure about Ostapenko from what I've heard.

Really rooting for Halep now too, I know she can best Pliskova. Ostapenko has been playing so confidently but i'd rather see her build her gameplay and climb the ranking than watch her win a championship and implode afterwards like we keep seeing with the young female ingenue GS winners. To be honest mostly i'm just waiting to see how the women go at Wimbledon. Who will collapse, who is showing improvement, etc...
At the moment there are no real 'champion players' with staying power in the current WTA field in the vein of Navratilova, Seles, Graf, Henin, the Williamses... not even anyone with consistency and a couple years of solid contention for GS wins a la Davenport, Clijsters, Hingis, Capriati, Sharapova. It's basically just waiting to see who can survive the first week and a half of a GS without having a breakdown, and who has a lucky run. Sigh.

Clay is the worst surface for her sylistically and she still had a very realistic shot at winning here. If she keeps up this form but with like 70 free points a match in aces I think Wimbledon would be hers to lose.

Great first semifinal. Wawrinka was the better player and deserved to win, but kudos to Murray and especially his defense. Incredible saves today.

I need Stan to play the entire final like he played that 5th set, especially if he gets Rafa. Which is looking pretty likely, unfortunately. Thiem is letting me down in a big way so far.

As exptected Rafa, despite not even playing at his best, was too much for Thiem. Maybe the Austrian was also a bit intimitated by this occasion, cause he also wasn't at his best and especially his service was pretty weak today. Would have hoped for a better match.
Nadal is the huge favorite to win his 10th title now. But if anybody can beat him in the final here it's Wawrinka.

Nadal is the huge favorite to win his 10th title now. But if anybody can beat him in the final here it's Wawrinka. He wasn't intimidated by the occasion! He came out and broke in the first game, he was up 15-40 3 different times during the first set and a bit, and he didn't break any of those times, and he couldn't hit any winners, and THAT broke him. He didn't serve particularly worse than he has done through the tournament, Nadal just absolutely pounced on his second serve, that was the only major difference. This has definitely been the dream final from the beginning, and it's kind of perfectly set up. I wouldn't want to call it based on what we've seen so far. Stan is going to have to be even more aggressive than normal to have a chance I reckon. His blocked back return isn't going to help, and he needs to be up inside the court, and shortening his swing to take Rafa's time away.

Thiem definitely didn't serve well yesterday. Yes, Nadal was returning very well, but Thiems first serve percentage was pretty low, just 53 %. And obviously with this you don't stand a chance against Nadal. The Austrian certainly can play better than he did yesterday. But so also definitely can Nadal. The standard of the Madrid final for example was way higher. I think both players were pretty nervous in the beginning. Nadal maybe even more than Thiem, making surprisingly many uncharacteristic errors.

Women's final: Ostapenko - Halep
The suprise finalist against the favorite. I expect a close match. Ostapenko will play as always. Hit every ball as hard and hope to find the lines again. This time though she comes up against the best defender on the WTA and the key will be if 1. Halep can make Ostapenko play this one more shot, which should force the Latvian to more errors 2. Halep can make pressure herself and dictate the points
Halep was under constant pressure from Svitolina already, a much she nearly lost. And while Svitolina doesn't hit as hard as Ostapenko, she also doesn't make as much errors as the 20-year-old. I think the Romanian has now two good tests behind her and I think she will win this final in 3 sets.

That was an amazing line call in that last Halep service game. You could clearly see it was out on TV, the entire stadium could see it was out, but the fucking umpire and linesperson were apparently daydreaming.

Didn't get to watch it, but was watching the live score on my phone. 50-something winners though, and Shabbat someone like Halep. Crazy stuff. Good for her.

I think her winner count has just gone up and up with every match. We keep expecting it to get too much for her, and she just keeps swinging away. A set and 3-0 down? Never won a tournament before? This was beautiful.

Sad for Simona but I loved Ostapenko's sturdy and confident game tonight. Hard not to be pleased for a young one achieving their dreams. She didn't crumble at all the moments a lot more seasoned players have lately (even my beautiful Granny V). Just kept calmly powering through and thwacking it at her. I pray she can keep this sort of form going.

Well, I've certainly seen worse WTA Grand Slam Finals. Congratulations to Jelena Ostapenko for fulfilling her fairy tale. Today again history could be made with Rafael Nadals 10th French Open Title on the verge. But he has the one opponent who can maybe stop him across the net. Wawrinka usually plays his very best tennis in Grand Slam Finals and is unbeaten in his three so far. I think he has to play even better than in those to win today I think. How many errors will the Swiss make? How good will Nadal defend and serve? That are the most important questions to me for this final. I'm hestitating with a pick here, cause rationally you can't pick any other winner than Nadal here, but I don't want to jinx him, though I already did it with this sentence. And I already did so when picking him to win this tournament before the start so I can stay with it anyways: Nadal in 4.

Kerber is still ranked #1??!!?!?!? Hey, she fought hard to defend those 1st round points at Roland Garros. She earned that spot.

What a display from Rafael Nadal. Just incredible. Nadal at Roland Garros, that is definitely the best tennis there has ever been. Destroying Wawrinka in the final 6-2, 6-3, 6-1, winning his 10th (!!) title at the French Open and dropping only 35 games along the way (the record by Bjorn Borg at the 1978 French Open stands at 32).

Nadal wins the French Open, colour me bored. Still, at least he now has the number of French Open titles too match the number of times he does this per minute when he plays.

If Nadal doesn't win this, it will be my favourite thing to happen in sport this year, if not even longer. I don't even care who does to be honest. I'm just sick to death of him winning it. Sure it's impressive, but I no longer care.
If Osaka doesn't get the boot for reasons other than losing a match, I'm putting my money on her (figuratively).
