Fascinating story....... The Russian tennis player Yana Sizikova has been arrested in Paris by French police as part of a match-fixing investigation. Sizikova, a 26-year-old doubles specialist, was taken into custody on Thursday night in relation to an investigation dating back to October for sports corruption and organised gang fraud. The arrest relates to last year’s tournament when bookmakers issued alerts for abnormal betting patterns during Sizikova’s first-round women’s doubles match alongside Madison Brengle of the United States, which they lost 7-6 (8), 6-4 to the Romanian duo of Andreea Mitu and Patricia Maria Tig. www.theguardian.com/sport/2021/jun/04/yana-sizikova-arrested-at-french-open-tennis-in-match-fixing-investigation

Federer with the 3rd round win in 4 sets at 1am! Toughed out a long one, made some athletic plays. Opponent Koepfer had some, uh, immature behavior.

Federer used Roland Garros as a warm up for the Wimbledon warm ups.

Have one eye on this while I'm working but that third set is some of the best tennis I've ever seen. Incredible rallies.

Not sure Nadal can come back from this.

France broke their 11pm curfew rule to let the fans stay That whole 3rd set was epically tense. Also the announcers have talked about Nadal's sweat so much they got me kinda wondering how much that towel-problem is an actual factor-- lol

Hurray!!!
I care about a French Open final again.
I can't decide if I want Djokovic to close the gap on Fed and Nadal by the end of Wimbledon or have another non big three slam winner.
If Djok does win he'll be the only player to have won all four twice. Another stamp on his card in the greatest, debate.

Djokovic winning the grand slam to get to 21 would be the most epic thing ever and pretty much solidify him as GOAT. As it stands beating Nadal on clay is a big feather in his cap and winning to get the double slam would be huge as well.

Last year was a tough year - and I had to type sh it like this below from the thread we have Nadal, Federer, Djokovich : Who's Best / Favorite? about what hitting the line judge meant to him........ .........Djoko always was the best - whether he's hitting line judges in the throat or being Chokovich - he still needs to seal the deal here.......but what a difference a few months make..... by pacinoyes on Sep 6, 2020 at 6:30pm
Hmmmmmmm.........so many pacinoyes snarky reactions.....like with Mr. 1 Surface-Wonder probably winning the French soon that will put Djoko 3 back of both Mr. 1 Surface-Wonder and Federer....hmmmmmmm.......that's tough to catch tbh.
.............if Nadal ends up with the most Slams - this will never be brought up against Nadal (because he's so lovable, um), but let's hope Djoko passes them both one day and then people could say on Djoko's behalf "Oh ........and he should have one more too, remember when ____________!"

What a fantastic match that was, maybe one of their five best Grand Slam showdowns. Extremely strong by Djokovic to pull through after it looking early on to be a repeat of last seasons debacle. He still needs to pull through on Sunday in order to actually make it count, though. Had Nadal won, it would have been no doubt in my mind that he would have won, but Djokovic I can see losing.
About who being the GOAT, I think that's a discussion to be left for when they have all hung up their rackets or at least when it is very obvious how it's going to end up. It defininetely looks like Djokovic is going to run away with it now, but he was clearly tipped for the calender slam in 2016 after winning Roland Garros and went on to not win anything for two years. We do not know what's going to happen.

What a week .....Djoko beats the one court wonder and makes him look old while doing it..........AND today he comes back from 2 sets down to be even more of the GOAT than he was yesterday ............oh and I found some cash in a cushion of my couch

Figured we need to get away from that "GOAT" tennis thread atm since that will eventually just write itself anyway.....and for now we have a better thread or a more specific one. This is the best GS tournament of the 2022 - right? - the only one where the 2 GOATs are both playing with roughly the same chances to win (Nadal's health tbd) - I don't think Nadal will be a threat at Wimbledon or US Open - heck Djoko still isn't allowed IN the US atm. What a great French Open this year - so much drama - old lions, young guns..... Alcaraz, Djoko, Nadal going for 14 - but also questionable on how his foot will hold up and Zvervev and Tsitsipas can't be counted out. A lot depends on the draw later this week. I'd say: * Nadal is still the guy to beat because you can't ever count him out on clay until he's knocked out (he's the GOAT....of clay anyway ) and then Djoko / Alcaraz who I only doubt because it's best of 5.......what are you expecting @ RG this year? * Anybody going to stop the astonishing Iga Swaitek? Does her streak end at the French?

Um, yikes on the draw: This is what Djoko potentially would have to do to win a 3rd title below. Um.........I doubt he wins this with those matchups possible. QF: Nadal?........SF: Alcaraz?........then Tsitsipas final? If he wins this with this draw I think you could pretty straight up call him clearly the 3rd best clay courter ever and obviously he's the most complete player ever across all tennis surfaces...... this would be kind of legendary if he does it.......and everyone is healthy Terrible draw for Nadal too who would have gotten Tsitsipas' (lucky) draw if he could have just been the 4th seed which he just lost in the last week or so.

Wow........this tournament is going to be something else.

Quite a day so far: * Osaka loses in 1st round - says she may skip Wimbledon. This whole story is so sad * Rogainadal wins in straight sets, no signs of foot problems, plenty of signs of his great forehand and receding hairline.......wore a grotesque green & yellow outfit that looked like Satan's Spew * Raducanu is in the middle of 3 setter atm in a pretty great match .....and of course, she has her fans, no?
