Fucking LOVED it. A series highlight, and easily the best of the season so far. I think S7 has been pretty great so far; it started slow, but I think each episode has steadily got better and better, until we finally got what we've been waiting for. All good things for sure, since I actually can't think of any flaws. 10/10
- of course, that end battle was the standout sequence, and it truly fucking delivered. It looked awesome (the directing was great all-round from It's Always Sunny guy Shakman), and it brilliantly showed the suffering involved in battle, instead of just making it a pure spectacle. Also, this wasn't just Daenerys having an amazing victory; we were made to feel sympathy for the Lannister soldiers, and in some ways to root for Bronn (I kinda did). Tyrion's conflicted loyalties, even if it were just for a moment, was really well-done. Great great great.
- Bran's weirdness was better this week, though I still think his loss of humanity feels insanely rushed and out-of-nowhere. His scene with Littlefinger was fantastic, and nicely set up Littlefinger's demise (hopefully, at the hands of Sansa).
- I thought the Arya reunion was wonderfully done. They refrained from using bombastic music to evoke emotion, instead making her scene with Sansa more cautious and tentative, as it would between these two who still don't really understand each other, but love each other more than ever. Her fight with Brienne was thrilling and electric.
- Tension between Jon and Theon made for a very good scene, and I wonder how it'll play out.
This is the first time this season that I cannot wait for the next episode.

Awesome episode Liked Arya and Sansa's reunion at Winterfell. Dany riding Drogon and yelling Dracarys gives me goosebumps every time. Bron did a smart thing, hitting Drogon with an x-bow. I hope Drogon is okay. Dany should learn that her Dragons aren't invincible and show some restraint. Jaime marching to kill Dany must be one of the daring things or very foolish we've seen. I hope he is okay! Take that Cersei

Also this whole 'Bend the knee' thing is getting stupid and becoming a meme. They are making people hate Dany even more. Ughh!

This preview gives me some hope that Dany's unlikeable nature lately is intentional, as opposed to a wildly miscalculated move from D&D. If they really follow up on this and have her going off the rails, at least for a while, it'll be pretty great and a break from predictability.

I'm honestly surprised by the utter praise this episode is getting here. I thought it was okay overall. The Arya/Brienne fight was definitely such an eye-rolling moment and the ending battle, while there was a sense of looming dread, it was as I said before like watching someone cheating at a video game because of how one-sided it was.
I definitely don't mean it was a bad episode (it wasn't), but there were too many times where I was honestly going "ugh" (add the cave scene and Missandei/Dany talking about Greyworm into the mix while I'm at it). Loved the Littlefinger/Bran scene (so does Bran know that's he's responsible for Ned's death?), the Meera/Bran scene, and the initial Sansa/Arya reunion.
Oh, and the Bronn long take through the battle has got nothing on Jon's from Battle of the Bastards.

It was a nifty episode, but I'm just not big on Daenerys carpet-bombing everyone without the Lannisters/Tarlys, the most well-trained soldiers, putting up some level of fight against the Dothraki. Make me feel there are some stakes for the Targaryen side.

One of my favorite episodes of the series. We have gotten a lot of good vs evil battles - so it was easy to pick a side (Jon vs Ramsey etc). This was tough. You want Dany to get a victory but you are still rooting for Jamie and Bron. This was the first battle between the Lannisters and Dany and it was spectacular. Jamie and Dany face to face. The Iron Bank is backing Cersei, but what does that actually mean? They made it sounds like they can help in the war and provide reinforcements of some kind. Btw, Littlefinger is going to switch sides right? Arya doesn't like him. Bran's chaos is a ladder line. Sansa said he he doesn't give you anything unless he wants something in return. How long until the knights of the vale are fighting alongside the Lannisters?

I didn't catch that, but I think someone mentioned that they had spread their supply routes back to King's Landing, so I'd have to think that some of that grain and gold made it to the capital. If not, there's gonna be a famine, which would cause problems for both Cersei and Daenerys.

Make me feel there are some stakes for the Targaryen side.To be fair, the last two episodes were very Lannister heavy in terms of victory. I can sort of see what you mean with the battle here, but at the same time the combination of a surprise attack, a dragon and the ferocity of the Dothraki would be enough to make it a fairly clean victory for Daenerys.

A couple more complaints about this episode (sorry for being the buzzkill):
--The dialogue writing here was kinda shit. Characters explicitly stating the already-obvious subtext of scenes drives me crazy: "What I'm saying is, we have to work together to fight the dead"; "We've both had long stories ... and our stories aren't over yet!"
--We'll see how it plays out, but I feel like Jaime charging Daenerys was done solely for the moment of Tyrion saying, "Flee, you idiot!" Then the writers sort of wrote themselves into a hole that they seemingly don't know how to work out of it. Seriously, the last minute of this episode was just all kinds of sloppy.
The more I think about it, the more I think this was easily the weakest of the season so far. It was just wildly inconsistent. At least the first two were firmly planted in the "just average" territory.

Thoughts:
-I was a sucker for the brother/sister/sister reunion this episode. It's been so long, so this was a big deal! They didn't overdo it with the emotion which was fitting as all three have gotten colder with their experiences. It's remarkable to contrast how they all are now with how they were in the beginning of the show - Bran especially (he's become one of my favorite characters). Though I like that you still get that sibling vibe between them with Sansa smirking at Arya having a list.
-I'm never a big fan of battle scenes, but I was into this one possibly because I was interested in Tyrion's perspective there. That saved it for me. I saw an article talking about the fate of Jaime Lannister being in limbo. Yeah right. He'll be back.
-I get angry every time I see Littlefinger's face. I hate his face. I hate him. He makes my skin crawl.
-We'll see Jon Snow bend the knee alright. In the bedroom.
-Arya for the throne! That is all.

It's amazing for me how much this show has turned around with their end date in sight. It's like Lost. They tightened it all up, cut the bullshit out, had less room for their bad writing, and bad acting, and just got the fuck on with it. This breakneck pace they're now moving at is like a completely different show from what it was, which on one hand is a shame because it does allow for less of the good character work they occasionally did, but as someone that got sick to death of this show in the last two seasons, this is a breath of fresh air. A year ago when they turn around and go "Is that a Greyjoy ship?" We'd have to wait a month before the next scene.

He just watched his army get slaughtered. In this moment - he realizes he may be able to end the war tonight. He might be a gonner, but Dothraki don't have a reason to fight without Dany. It may be his best shot.

I've liked every episode in this season so far, and this one was no different. I'll be on the side of 'holy sh-t that ending was glorious', because even though the dragons are always pulled out last minute to give Daeny the obvious advantage, I don't care. Cersei has her cunning and endless resources and Daeny has her charisma and dragons. It was established from the beginning and every use of the dragons so far has been worthwile imo. I've hated Daeny this season with her incessant 'bend the knee' crap, but any time she goes into battle, I can't help rooting for her. Mostly b/c I want every Lannister/Lannister supporter gone I have to say though, the Sansa/Arya reunion was a huge let down. Of all the mini reunions, only the Jon/Sansa one evoked emotion, and it was the one I was least anticipating. The Arya/Sansa one I realize was the third Stark reunion, but it was so muted and flat...couldn't help but feeling disappointed. I'm also not loving the new robot Bran.

D&D winning Emmys for writing is just fucking hilarious. And they will win...again...

And now he just watched his army get burnt to a crisp in front of his very eyes and I think it flooded back the memories of the Mad King. He was able to kill Aerys, the man that burned people in front of him, Why can't he kill his daughter who just did the same? It was one of the greatest moments of the entire show.

I don't know, I would only buy it if we're supposed to believe that Jaime was willing to sacrifice himself (which doesn't seem totally plausible to me, either -- he really just gonna leave Euron to have his way with his sister?). I understand the motivation, but I'm not sure if the action is believable within context. Whether it makes sense for the character or not, the scene itself was poorly executed. That guy jumping on Jaime to save him at the last second, that silly final shot of Jaime sinking into the water, etc. Not to mention the fact that he picked up a spear -- which, according to my limited military knowledge, is a weapon used for throwing -- and yet he didn't even use it when he was well within throwing range. It all screamed non-committal and on-the-fly writing to me.

Honestly, though, I am hyped for the Hardhome Part 2.0 we're scheduled to be getting next week. Even if it does mean that we're losing The Hound and Tormund.

Given his "classical medieval" knight's training, he was probably hoping to use it more as a lance than anything else.
