So I had a dream this morning which took place in the GoT universe, but all was different. The war with Cersei is over, there is turmoil and chaos in the kingdoms. Then word comes down that the Night King and the army of the dead have broken through The Wall. Varys is made an acting king until the fighting is done due to his ability to deal with nobility and the common folk. The people of the North retreat south as the now-unified armies of the Seven Kingdoms march north to meet both the fleeing countrymen and to face the Dead. Their plan is to meet them at The Twins... and use that as a choke point to be able to match the onslaught that outnumbers the living considerably.
Of course I wake up as we reach this abandoned church that has a gravestone planted through the ceiling with the dead priest impaled upside down on the opposite end... and we encounter what they called "The White Witch" who spoke in "in Winter's tongue" (what the dead all did with the growls and whatnot).
It was pretty cool until I remembered what had actually happened. But for that brief dream, I truly felt happy.

I still can't fathom the sheer stupidity of the second half of the finale. I thought I was over this... until I was playing a game last night and someone made a Game of Thrones joke, where I said "what's west of Westeros" and like a really bad 90's Soap, I had the squiggly line flashback to ARYA! And then to Bran, then to Sansa... AND NOW I CAN'T UNFORGET AND I WANT YOU ALL TO FUCKING UNFORGET TOO!

Cersei will be the BIG one. I'd bet big money on it. Then I assume Jaime will also die in some sort of quasi-Antony/Cleopatra scenario. Tyrion, Dani, and Jon are clearly safe. They're not going anywhere in S7. All I know is, Davos best not die. He's probably the most morally pure character in the show and losing him would be disastrous. Holy shit, second post on the thread and I was right!

Ever since I got into the show back when Season 3 started, I hungrily read every single word Martin wrote about Westeros and would routinely rewatch seasons in anticipation of the new one. His world had consumed me in a way that even Rowling and Tolkien could never do. But after seeing what they did with Season 8 (and let's be real, Seasons 5 onward were a massive dip in quality in several arenas, but Season 8 was insultingly, stupefyingly, stultifyingly ridiculous), I couldn't give a shit about any of it anymore. Any of it. And that breaks my heart because I loved it so much.

I made it to the third page before I honestly went, "oh you sweet Summer child" when reading how excited I was. I was reminded of that line from Seinfeld where George just mutters: "Why did it all turn out like this for me? I had so much promise. I was personable, I was bright. Oh, maybe not academically speaking, but... I was perceptive. I always know when someone's uncomfortable at a party. It became very clear to me sitting out there today, that every decision I've ever made, in my entire life, has been wrong. My life is the opposite of everything I want it to be. Every instinct I have, in every of life, be it something to wear, something to eat... It's all been wrong."

Well I'm almost positive this was the worst episode of the whole series. Still, who knows, they might top it next week. I'm calling right now that the finale ends up being not just the worst received episode of the show, but one of the worst received TV episodes of all time. It's going to be like Lost, except unlike Lost, it's going to fully deserve the hate. I don't like being so critical of this show. It comes from my love of how good it used to be and the books. Did I call it or what

I'm still convinced Ramsay should've been the one to kill Stannis in the S5 finale (and it should've been brutal af) and Tyrion should've been executed in the S4 finale after killing Tywin. Prove me wrong! god this show was so good pre-S5. It really fell off a cliff. God fucking damn it

It still hurts... I fucking hate this thread. Damn, some of you all are gluttons for punishment I've put the whole mess behind me. I like to just pretend it all ended with the Season 5 finale. Winds of Winter is a price worth paying, for Season 8 not to exist.

Prove me wrong! Honestly I could have lived with either of those things. Post season 4 Tyrion is expendable, they could have kept Barristan Selmy alive to give deranged Dani bad advice to ignore and Ramsay should have been the one to kill everyone.

Well esp. with Tyrion it would've been in line with the show's one-two punch of tragic character endings. Ned Stark looks to be getting a merciful life sentence but then, whoops his head gets chopped off. Robb secures access to the Twins and a Frey alliance but then, whoops his family and whole army is slaughtered. Theon gets a couple apparent victories that turn into defeats in S3. And in S4, Tyrion gets a badass champion who looks like he's winning but then whoops, he gets careless, and THEN another one-two punch because Tyrion's offered a chance to escape but decides in the moment that revenge matters more and gets that satisfaction but pays a consequence for his decision. It would've been consistent with the show's writing and willingness to kill off main cast. but nah, they wanted to keep him alive to get drunk and dole out shitty advice

Nah, the fact they had Stannis, probably the most experienced general in Westeros, lose to Ramsay Snow out of all people because he didn't use scouts was one of the things that made me drop the show because they clearly didn't know what they were doing. They should've written it better but Stannis obviously needed to lose that fight after all his bad decisions and after sacrificing Shireen. Just basic poetic justice. That campaign was never going to succeed and in the event of its failure, having him killed by Brienne who was just fucking around outside Winterfell all season was anti-climax. And Ramsay had gotten really boring by S5 (in my headcannon this is a version that doesn't include the whole Sansa subplot because fuck that subplot), and he got even more boring in S6. His antics peaked in S3 with Theon and then de-escalated rapidly. Ramsay defeats Stannis anyways, having him brutally kill Stannis would've been the karma that plotline deserved and would've made Ramsay scary again instead of just a meme with his six good men. And I'm not saying this as a Stannis hater, but this monumental failure of a campaign goes out with a squeak when it should've gone out with a bloody bang. The awfulness of his situation peaks in Ep. 8 and everything after that doesn't matter. Oh but I can promise you, if you dropped the show after Mother's Mercy, you made the right call because it gets vastly worse. S5 is high art compared to seasons 7 and 8.

But Stannis sacrificing Shireen was itself a sign they were idiots who had no idea what they were doing. And to make It worse, they tried to justify by saying this is what will happen in the books, which is both a dick move and a lie (since Stannis leaves Shireen on the wall, and also nothing indicates he'll need anything of the sort to defeat the Boltons)
