As long as there's some side plot with Sam Jackson as a blaxploiation movie star then I'm there. He'll have a single scene of him sitting at home reading this and then turning to the camera and going "DAMN!"

So God only knows what people said on the DL.

I'm unaware of Kael being embarrased by this review (?) ........actually I'm unaware of her ever being embarrassed by any review she ever wrote Usually people stop reading before the end where she says it's sympathetic by its depth of portrayal - she's saying the white culture he reflects is ugly.......is the performance racist? No, I don't think so - stephen and I have talked about it on this board.........but is the review racist........even less so than the performance is ........ imo. To our eyes, the African prince (as embodied by Olivier - addition mine) is more beautiful in his isolation than the fancy courtier in his reflected white glory. . . .

Why not Linda Blair? Or Tatum ONeill or Brooke Shields former child stars from the 70s that need a comeback and made all the B explotation movies that Tarantino love!!!

Giantfreakinrobot, longtime purveyor of junk news but recently getting like 6 scoops correct before the trades and Production Weekly, is now claiming Margot Robbie is eyed to be a lead in this. If true, Jennifer Lawrence stans are going to lose their shit.

I think it's more just the fact that QT has said how much he wants to work with JLaw, and he almost cast her in his last 2 films. So I can see how JLaw fans would be upset if he just went with Margot again.

Sure, but QT is in a position to be able to cast virtually any actress in the world in a lead role. It's not like Margot has some special skillset or aura that makes her a runaway option. It would be a definitive rejection of Lawrence, given that they're both attractive blondes in their 30s without any sort of super technical gifts, and Margot's recent projects being box-office underperformers. You can say "Winslet's older, Hathaway's a brunette, etc." but Lawrence should theoretically be fungible with Robbie.

He probably got on really well with Robbie on their last outing and Tarantino tends to have his own production posse where he works with the same people more than once.

After all the complaints he got about Margot not doing much in OUATIH, I think people would be more than thrilled.

"Sneider is hearing that Tarantino’s upcoming film will be “critical of the current state of Hollywood.” He add that QT wants Cate Blanchett for the lead role." Well big grain of salt from World of Reel but he's referncing Sneider directly so.........and I guess QT doesn't hate CB, huh? QT feels he's in control of actors - always - he can say Blanchett makes movies no one cares about or whatever he said (it's in this thread) but he won't feel that way if he gets her in her in his film.......she's a no-brainer ....GOAT level - and if you're making a movie being critical state of Hollywood who better because she just got robbed ...... It would be quite a coup for Blanchett to be in a Todd Field, QT, and Cuarón in a row...... big "if" though.....but lapping the field with her "rivals" (ha!) at this stage tbh who likely would react in horror

Meh if he goes through with it. He'd just be poaching/repurposing her Tar pseudointellectual affect. Hiring the most artificial "great" actress of all time to lead your final movie? Yuck.

QT confirms allegedly (Ruimy so.....) - not about Kael....and a male lead......possibly a black male lead - or a big role (read the comments section) - "Floyd Ray Wilson" from Cinema Speculation (?) Quentin Tarantino was in Paris this evening promoting his book “Cinema Speculation,” which, I’m hearing, inspired him to write his next film.
In a Q&A with Thierry Fremaux, Tarantino sought to clear the air about his upcoming new film. He confirmed that its title is indeed “The Movie Critic,” but that it has nothing to do with Pauline Kael.
Tarantino went on to add that he just recently completed the screenplay and that the story is set in 1977. Also, the main character is not a movie critic, according to him. He’s aiming for a fall shoot in Los Angeles.www.worldofreel.com/blog/2023/3/xnk5jo3uowrv7cpcr7m22v1u6q0umc

"Rolling Thunder was the movie that gave me permission to be a critic." As QT says in an important chapter of Cinema Speculation where he basically freezes on 1977 as the year he became committed to the movies on a profounder level. He was 14-15... and describes chasing that specific movie around all the theaters it played at - seeing it on a double with Enter the Dragon etc - and even calling up the director - calling every John Flynn in the phonebook and eventually finding him, pretending to be a critic, he scored an interview.
The best stuff of Cinema Speculation is the stuff about his stepfather, who was black, and that guy Floyd who lived with them for years - he ends the whole book as a huge thank-you to him, who was in a way the first real cinephile he knew - who first urged him to write a movie.
I mean.....if it's really QT's last movie, it may as well be his most personal.

This is why I'm skeptical that he'll stop at 10 films. He said he will stick to books, plays, and TV but he'll get the itch eventually. Some ideas work better on the screen.
