Logline details are being kept in a suitcase but sources describe the story as being set in late 1970s Los Angeles with a female lead at its center.
It is possible the story focuses on Pauline Kael, one of the most influential movie critics of all time. Kael, who died in 2001, was not just a critic but also an essayist and novelist. She was known for her pugnacious fights with editors as well as filmmakers. In the late 1970s, Kael had a very brief tenure working as a consultant for Paramount, a position she accepted at the behest of actor Warren Beatty. The timing of that Paramount job seems to coincide with the setting of the script — and the filmmaker is known to have a deep respect for Kael, making the odds of her being the subject of the film more likely.
The project does not have a studio home; it could go out to studios or buyers as early as this week, according to sources. One frontrunner could be Sony, where Tarantino has a tight relationship with topper Tom Rothman. Sony distributed Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, the filmmaker’s in 2019 opus to 1960s moviemaking and also gave him a unique deal in which the copyright reverts to him over time. Hollywood also won two Oscars after nabbing 10 nominations and grossed over $377 million The filmmaker has long maintained he had a finite number of movies in him, saying he wanted to direct 10 films or retire by the time he was 60. The writer-director has made nine (if you count the two Kill Bill movies as one) and turns 60 later this month.
Even though he plans on retiring from filmmaking, he has expressed interest in other creative outlets, noting in interviews that he could direct limited series or plays. In 2021, he published his first novel, a novelization of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

So is this movie gonna end with a bunch of directors killing Pauline Kael over some bad reviews?

I wish he wouldn't do this final film shit every time.
Knowing QT I doubt he'll have Kael as a named character, just an obvious stand in so he can do whatever bonkers thing he wants to do with the story, with some real life characters like Beatty or Robert Evans being supporting roles.

So is this movie gonna end with a bunch of directors killing Pauline Kael over some bad reviews? Then we rewatch the footage of Will Smith slapping Chris Rock with some "this still happens today" type caption before the end credits.

I'll be honest, i really don't like this premise. I expected him to go out with a bang with a story in the vein of Pulp Fiction or Inglorious Basterds, instead we'll get a Pauline Kael biopic to please critics and the movie industry?? Miss me with that.

Tarantino has wanted to work with Jennifer Lawrence for a while so I wonder if this is the chance

It's interesting as an extension of OUATIH - in extending the 70s myths of Hollywood.......he potentially could cast a lot of the 70s actors in small roles / cameos but not as themselves - DePac, Beatty, Travolta or even smaller guys O'Neal, Dreyfuss, etc. It will be interesting to see who he casts and whether that person is literally playing Pauline Kael - she was small, pixie-ish - or is it just "someone like Pauline Kael"

Miss me with that. Lol, imagine thinking that this would a.) be a simple run-of-the-mill biopic, and b.) thinking that Quentin Tarantino of all people feels the need to please the film industry and critics, and c.) that everyone would be clamoring for a biopic of Pauline Kael in the first place.

But who knows... in 10 years he might decide to make another one. As for Kael, her look is not well known to the public so I don't think that will have much influence on casting. Like you said, it could be a character "like" her anyway.

Rather than saying, oh bad idea for movie based solely on the title. Shouldn't we be trying to figure out who will play female movie critic?
I wonder the age range. Had to guess I would say 40 plus.

Make it span like 20+ years, and have JLaw/Blanchett play different ages of her.

I now want to see Will Smith and Chris Rock in a remake of Face/Off complete with Jada as Smith's wife

Right now, I'm going to say he goes with Olivia Colman.

Rick Dalton returns? Major stretch here but who's to say this isn't a sort-of continuation of "his" Hollywood.... and like with the Kill Bills, he'll consider it one larger piece and not his final movie...? (I just want Marvin Schwarz back, baby!)

Nobody thought QT would even be directing another film before like 2025. I wonder if it makes sense with DiCaprio's schedule though. PTA's movie is supposed to start this summer. If he's in that, approximately 3 months would put it very close the the expected fall start for this. He usually takes long breaks between projects but I imagine he would try to make work for Tarantino if possible. As long as there isn't an overlap, the timing should work.
