Stewart is very good. She's not my MVP (that's Timothy Spall) but she's good. oh my goodness, I didn't even know Spall was in this or who he's playing. Does he have a lot of screentime? Could he be an outside shot for a nomination? Also, can you compare Stewart and Corrin? That's really all I want to know. Not to step on Wil's toes, but this is the first time I've read someone mention Spall since the film premiered. Don't think he has a shot at all.

Actually don't listen to me on this one, caught up on some stuff and I definitely am seeing some Spall mentions. Could happen if the film is a big enough contender overall.

Spencer is the Stewart show but if the film lands well with the Academy (by landing well I mean a reception a la The Favourite), he’s definitely in the running for a nomination. Corrin and Stewart are very different. One is angelic and dreamy, the other is neurotic and obsessed. They portray the same character in two opposite phases of their lives but Stewart had the harder character to play. Last Night In Soho was one of my most anticipated at the festival and I found it a mess. Entertaining and all but also very incoherent and the final third totally derails the movie. Too many movie references ( pacinoyes will have fun spotting them out), too many themes to jumble, the script needed a serious reconsideration.

The script really must be a mess because nearly everyone keeps pointing it out. So this one boils down to eye candy.

I'll be very intrigued to see wilcinema 's awards at the end of the ceremony. I'll be more than happy to share my own palmares at the end of the festival! I'm trying to watch all the movies in Competition, I have only missed two so far (Sundown and Official Competition). There's also very good stuff in the sidebars too, Venice is truly erving this year.
And by the way, Xavier Giannoli's Lost Illusions wowed me this morning. That's certainly getting an award from me

It's still very fun, I'm just disappointed that it didn't live up to its potential. It could have been a horror for the ages.

So who do you think is winning the Volpi Cup for Best Actress? Cruz? Stewart? Someone else?

So who do you think is winning the Volpi Cup for Best Actress? Cruz? Stewart? Someone else? So many contenders this year. Cruz, Stewart, Colman, Vartolomei (Happening was HUGE)… as of right now I would say Cruz.

I think it's Stewart.

I can honestly see all the films that have premiered so far winning an award. It’s crazy.

I'm leaning towards Cruz.
I think they might want to award Spencer elsewhere, maybe Larrain.

Having 2 movies in comp could help Penelope ( last year certainly helped Kirby ) and I haven't heard anything but great things from both performances, best of luck to her, when she's on, she could be unbelievably great. wilcinema Have you seen The Box ?

The Best Actress race is HOT. Penelope, Colman, Stewart, Vartolomei are all credible picks. I have. I was a bit underwhelmed to be honest avnermoriarti

Cruz, but the other 3 mentioned seem credible too.

Another STRONG candidate for the male Volpi Cup: Toni Servillo in The King of Laughter. I just saw the movie and he’s so good.

Add Yuriy Borisov to the list for Best Actor, and Captain Volgonokov Escaped in general for the Golden Lion. This feels like a winner…

I'll watch my last Competition film tonight (On The Job) and then I'll get back to you guys with my own awards and my predictions for the Palmares.
I haven't seen everything (I'll have missed five at the end of it all) but I have seen enough.

Word has it that Campion, Gyllenhaal, Cruz, Servillo, and Sorrentino have been seen on the Lido.
