Nice try, but Kristen Stewart will never have her career. Not even close. I mean she's about to have an Oscar, that's already a step up from Watts. *oscar nomination

Fair. I just personally feel pretty damn confident about a Stewart win.

Fair. I just personally feel pretty damn confident about a Stewart win. Me too... She's ticking all the checkboxes so far. Young talented actress, been around for a while, enough of a star, enough of a proven acting record through indies, major vehicle from known auteur doing the festival circuit, great notices... the age... the timing... stars seem to be alighing in her favor...

Glad to see all the optimism aboout a Stewart win, but I'd be content with a nomination really. Feeling the movie needs to get a lot of love for a win to happen, but a nomination should be possible even if it's a bit divisive.

Stewart (without seeing the movie yet, mind you) seems to me more likely to get a "welcome to the club" type of nom than an actual win.
I agree that Hudson will be lucky to even be nominated.

Hudson?!? She won't even get nominated. I remember some people saying the exact same thing about Andra Day and her Billie Holiday biopic😜 So we never know. Two completely different scenarios. Day was in a much weaker year, had a much better release date, and the film was a digital release so it didn't have the stigma of being a box office flop like Respect does. Plus, Day's individual notices are better than Hudson's anyway. I really don't see a way in which Hudson can survive being in a box office flop from August, to even get nominated, let alone win.

You couldn't have asked for a better release timing than what Andra Day got. The stars aligned perfectly for her because of that and the Globe win. Narrative or no, Hudson took a hard hit having such an early release against what looks to be a behemoth year for Best Actress. She needs to work that circuit hard, and while it's certainly doable, that's a hard row to hoe.

This is a make it or break it moment for Larrain and the Academy. I don't think he'll ever come closer than this to an Oscar movie.

Controversial pacinoyes hot take:Look man.......I don't think she looks like her.......the drawing of the Royal Family looks cartooniishly evil while she's drawn ridiculously noble (was she though?).....the real love story was always between Charles and Camilla not Charles & her (oh yeah, I said it!) and while I'm on this subject............ fnck Harry & Meghan. But - it's amazing how you can get so much dramatic power out of a clear POV, that is clearly drawn.........it might not just win actress.........it may win screenplay too.
Ducks..........runs for cover......

btw just to chip in, after seeing Respect, Hudson feels like a longshot. The movie is very weak at dissecting Hudson's emotional trauma -- stunningly weak, so it's not comparable to a movie like Judy or Billie Holiday where that was the central point. And because of that Hudson doesn't really have much to do. She doesn't really have any big acting moments and she's not doing anything special with her voice or accent or inflection. The only narrative that could propel her to a nomination is that she did her own singing but apart from those moments, the movie doesn't give her much to do at all. It's a much "quieter" and less transformative performance than what you typically get with noms for these types of biopics. It's nowhere near as loud or technical as Andra Day, not even close.

Damn, Stewart's voice/accent sounds unimpeachable.

They're reeeeally sticking with that song choice huh
Better than the first trailer tho. Hoping this is more messy and melodramatic than Jackie-esque Moody.

Naomi Watts be like: Kristen Stewart is kicking my ass in everything..... career trajectory, movie choices, and is relegating me into obscurity. Nice try, but Kristen Stewart will never have her career. Not even close. I'm not a K-Stew fanboy like some of these guys here are (tho she's at least decent), but she's gonna pwn Naomi Watts career - aka that dingo woman I totally forgot some time in the last 8 years.

Damn, Stewart's voice/accent sounds unimpeachable. I really wasn't worried about this. She did a perfect Irish accent for Lizzie.
